I’ll Admit…
I was an erotic romance virgin when I picked up my first Secrets volume. It was summer 2004 and I was perusing the shelves at a Barnes & Noble in Scottsdale, AZ. I’d devoured all the latest bestsellers (you know—Nora, Heather Graham, Sandra Brown, etc.) and I wanted something different. Really different. I had no idea what I was looking for, but when I came across Secrets Volume 6 face-out on the shelf, I loved the cover! The vibrant red and the elegant gold script made me reach for the book, thinking it was something very special, something classy and sophisticated. And it was. But whoa, Nelly! Was it also super-spicy! Talk about romance with a kick!! The back cover copy grabbed my attention immediately, and when I got home, I blazed through the pages—too quick, unfortunately, because it was the only volume on the shelf and I knew I’d have to scour the other bookstores to find another one!
Angela Knight. MaryJanice Davidson. I thought they were brilliant. And, yes… I did develop an Angela Knight obsession, though I found the restraint not to stalk the poor woman! (I think…) I was inspired to write my own Red Sage story. I’d just returned from Brooklyn and a very intense Italian funeral, and the family stories of mafia ties and revenge and curses percolated in my head until I came up with the idea for my very first novella, In the Heat of the Night. It took no more than two weeks to write the manuscript because I was so into the story. I sent the first ten pages to Red Sage and months later, they requested the full, and then it was just a few blinks later before the story was on the bookshelves. Thirteen is my favorite number (a childhood thing because my birthday is thirteen days from Christmas), and my first published fiction story appeared in Secrets Volume 13. I think it was a sign….

When treasure hunter and spy Laurel Blackwood raids Victoria Peak in Belize to recover a rare Mexican fire opal rumored to evoke dark desires and passions, she unwittingly sets off a sequence of dangerous events—and finds herself in the midst of a battle between good and evil… and lust and love. Being chased through the Yucatan jungle is perilous enough, but Laurel must also keep the opal from falling into the hands of a deadly terrorist cell, a greedy Belizean dignitary, and one particularly hot and scandalous treasure hunter named Devon Mallory.
For ten years, Devon has had his eye on the thirty-million-dollar prized opal and his heart set on winning Laurel for keeps. But her web of secrecy and now her betrayal over recovering the legendary stone without him has Devon hell-bent on stealing the opal from her and collecting on the massive pay-out. Unfortunately for Devon, there is much more to Laurel Blackwood than she lets on. And soon, he’s caught in the eye of the storm—falling under her sensuous spell, willing to put his own life on the line to help her protect the mystical jewel.
But Devon will eventually have to decide which gem is his true object of desire…
