The Ordinin sneers in contempt, having decided
that the Shadow was harmless, merely a bit of trickery that would
pass him by. His expression changes to panic, and then to pain, as
the Shadow washes over him, dissolving him as it drains him of
life. Now his companions take it seriously, and they mount their
craft and vehicles to make their escape.

The Shadow surges forward, and wraps about the
forms and vehicles of all the Ordinin within sight. The fates of
the Ordinin are the same as the first, and the vehicles and craft
are first pulled apart, and then the Troll-like Ordinin within them
dies. As the Ettema sigh their relief and relax at last, the Shadow
surges beyond the horizon, and surges up into the sky, to seek out
the places of the Ordinin wherever they may dwell.

Although the Shadow may stalk the last
vestiges of the Ordinin for days, even at the almost infinite speed
of its travel, the sentence is now pronounced, and the Shadow will
find its targets. The species which is known as the Ordinin will
now die, on this and every world, and the universe will forget
them.

The sentence carried out, there is no more
need for Unutu, and they exhale the power that they had drunk, and
their stature diminishes by twice ten times. Now Tom and Karla
stand in the world of the Ettema, assuring themselves of the well
being of the small creatures, before returning to their world. The
gratitude of the creatures is intoxicating, and the relief of the
delicate beings is gratifying.

The task is done, and it is time to return to
the heavens, as it were. Tom and Karla concentrate for a moment,
and the air before them shows them the storm tossed streets of
their home. Holding hands, they step forward.
