I don’t want to take over
leadership of your pack. I want to be left alone.

Left alone with
him
, Mighty Elk corrected not even
bothering to look in Lance’s direction.

Yes. He is under my
protection.

Lance held his breath. Whether Oliver
knew it or not those were baiting words.

We should have killed him
when we had the chance. He is bad medicine.

Oliver growled
loudly.
If I ever see you even one claw
into my territory again I will attack.

Mighty Elk turned and fled at a lope,
his footsteps retreating into the trees the direction they had
come, as Oliver flopped down on his belly, panting hard, twisting
to lick at his side.

Lance darted to his side
and helped Oliver lick the wounds.
Feels
good
. Oliver let Lance take over his care,
and Lance delighted in the chore. Twisted his body like he had been
to reach the wounds must have hurt terribly.

Another interesting scar.
Do they make me look more manly?

Yes.
Lance smiled, nudging Oliver’s snout with his own
nose.
Thank you
.

Once satisfied all of
Oliver’s wounds were clean and he was comfortable
Lance dropped to the ground and rolled onto his
back.

Oliver pushed to his feet and licked
Lance’s exposed belly and then his ears. The heat welled inside him
again and he quivered.

Back to the
house
, Oliver ordered.

Lance held back a whine. Once again he
didn’t want Oliver to stop.

Oliver bounded to the mansion and
Lance followed close behind. The Alpha had made it very clear that
Lance now belonged to him. Used to serving Mighty Elk, he didn’t
doubt the fate that awaited him. However, Oliver seemed a more
caring master. Perhaps being disowned from his old pack had been a
blessing in disguise. He’d found a better place to
belong.

Oliver shifted into human form before
climbing the front porch. Lance followed suit. The slaves milled
about now going about their morning tasks. They didn’t pay either
of them any mind as if they were used to seeing their master naked
all the time.

Follow.”

Yes, sir.” Lance climbed
the winding staircase. He wanted to complain. His clothes were in
the bedroom downstairs. The slaves might be used to seeing their
master naked, but they weren’t used to seeing him naked.

Oliver opened a door and a large bed
explained the purpose of the room.

Bed. Now.” Oliver’s husky
voice swelled Lance’s cock. He’d never served Mighty Elk this way.
Thankfully the man had said he couldn’t take a squaw on account of
his mixed blood, so he’d managed to keep his preferences for the
braves a secret. Lance scrambled onto the bed and knelt on all
fours, offering his ass.

Chapter Six

That’s not what I want.”
Oliver sat on the side of the bed mesmerized by the shifter
presenting himself for his pleasure. One palm hovered a fraction
above the globe of his ass, wanting to touch him and yet not
wanting to break the spell.

Lance rolled over onto his back in a
graceful movement that would make a swan jealous. Legs spread, his
erection bobbed in full view. “You want me this way?”

The innocent and leading question
nearly undid his self-control. Oliver wet his lips. “Why are you
doing this?”

Lance sat up, pulling his knees to his
chest as if to protect himself. He hadn’t meant to offend the
younger wolf. The hurt in Lance’s eyes seared his heart.

D-don’t you w-want me?”
Lance stammered.

Yes, but only if you want
me, too. I don’t want you to lie with me out of some twisted sense
of obligation. I told your old Alpha off. That doesn’t require any
payment. Besides I didn’t do that solely for your benefit. He had
no right to trespass on my land.” Oliver paused and took a breath.
“Do you understand?”

Lance’s Adam’s apple drew his
attention as the man swallowed. Looking at his throat allowed him
to pretend to not see the tears brimming in the submissive’s eyes.
“I understand. But I want a place to belong. I thought maybe I had
found that with you.”

Oliver’s protective instinct bubbled
inside him. He wrapped his arms around Lance and pulled him to him
until they were chest to chest. “You have,” he whispered in his
ear. “I’ll never disown you. No matter what.”

A slow smile split Lance’s lips. “You
don’t even have a pack.”

Mighty Elk was right. I
am a lone wolf. For now.”

What does that
mean?”

He didn’t want to discuss his troubles
and family politics. They had nothing to do with Lance staying with
him. If their relationship was hard for the pack to take he’d
continue being a lone wolf and carve his own place in the world.
“Some day I’ll have a pack. And I’d like you to be by my
side.”

Lance stared at him as if trying to
figure out if he’d heard him correctly. “You want me to be your
mate?”

Yes.” It wasn’t exactly a
romantic way of proposing, but he didn’t have much practice with
asking a man to be his mate. In fact, he had
no
practice.

The self-esteem seemed to whoosh out
of Lance. “You need another Alpha to help you lead. I’m not even a
Beta.”

Just because you’re an
Omega doesn’t mean you’re worthless.”

Lance grunted. “Mighty Elk said it
did. Said I was born an Omega on account of my mixed blood. Said
that my black mother made me only fit for one
thing—servitude.”

Servitude. Oliver’s finger burned as
he traced the S scar on Lance’s cheek. Without asking for details
he realized the wolf was used to only sadness and pain. He would
work hard to bring happiness into his life.

Mighty Elk was wrong you
know.” Cupping Lance’s chin, he tilted his head back and then
claimed his lips. Instantly the man melted into his kiss eagerly
wanting more. “You have much to offer me and my future
pack.”

I know what I have to
offer you, but what do I have to offer the pack?”

Oliver chuckled. “Do you know what the
number one Alpha rule is?”

No.”

A grin stretched Oliver’s lips. “The
first rule: If the Alpha is happy everyone is happy,
yes?”

Yes.”

They kissed again and this time Lance
parted his mouth allowing Oliver’s tongue to slip inside. After a
brief sparring he ended the kiss, breathing hard. “Will you be my
mate, Lance?”

Are you sure you want a
half-breed wolf as your mate?”

If you continue to run
yourself down I’ll have to give you a spanking.”

His threat didn’t have the affect he’d
intended. Lance chortled, grinning. “I’ve been threatened with
physical punishment many times but never for such an offense.
You’re not like the Alphas I’ve known.”

Oliver grunted. “And how many Alphas
have you known?”

Just two. And yes I’ll
mate you in a heartbeat.” Lance stretched out on the bed once again
on his back. “Take me. Make me yours.”

A low growl rumbled and Oliver
realized he’d made the noise. Lance got to him faster than any wolf
ever had. He opened a secret compartment in his headboard and
withdrew a small jar of oil. Unscrewing the lid with a single twist
he scooped up the lubricant with two fingers. He spread Lance’s
thighs wider and then circled his opening.

Lance’s chest rose and fell in rapid
succession. “I’ve never done this before.”

Oliver groaned. He knew from the
beginning he couldn’t casually fuck Lance. He’d experimented with a
few other wolves in his younger years. However, from the first time
he scented Lance he knew the wolf was the one for him.

Don’t worry,” he kissed
Lance’s velvety cock. “The mating hormones will override the
discomfort. I’ll make it good for you. I promise.”

Chapter 7

The tip of Oliver’s finger slid inside
his hole and he stiffened. He gritted his teeth trying not grimace.
Mighty Elk despised any show of weakness. He wanted Oliver to be
proud of him, but the sudden intrusion felt unnatural,
uncomfortable. Digging his sweaty palms into the covers he prepared
for the worst. But Oliver’s oiled finger didn’t move. The Alpha met
his eyes. The golden speckled emeralds reminded him of his regal
bearing in wolf form. “No hurry,” he explained. “We have all
day.”

Lance gradually relaxed. If Oliver had
wanted to hurt him he would have rushed. The man really cared,
wanted to put his needs first.

Oliver withdrew his finger and pushed
in again this time a hair farther. “Push back against
me.”

Lance tried and more of the Alpha’s
finger slipped inside. He stretched him slowly. Once he’d taken all
of one finger he thrust in and out in a languid rhythm before
adding a second oiled finger.

Instead of crying out Lance
growled.

Oliver’s tongue flicked his ear. “I’m
sorry,” he murmured. Soon the licking proved a sweet distraction
from the pain and Lance shifted his head to the side so the Alpha
could lick the sensitive flesh on his neck.

As soon as I’m inside you
I’ll make my mark and the mating euphoria will be all you feel. But
I am trying to get you ready for that.”

I’m ready.” Lance heaved
with each breath. He didn’t care if it hurt. He wanted Oliver
inside him. Now.

Oliver thrust both fingers harder and
faster and a tingle rippled through Lance. The Alpha’s green eyes
narrowed. “I don’t think you are.”

I am,” Lance insisted.
Where he found the courage to argue with an Alpha he’d never
know.

Oliver didn’t snap at him. He grinned.
“Eager, huh? Well, I’ve waited a long time for this,
too.”

Suddenly Oliver’s fingers left his ass
and Lance felt empty, barren. Was this the punishment for talking
back? Was he going to wait longer for their mating? Lance was about
to beg forgiveness when Oliver scooped more oil onto his fingers
and oiled his erection.

You’re going to get your
wish, little wolf.”

Lance’s temperature spiked. Usually
being called a little wolf would have aggravated him but the way
Oliver said it sounded like an endearment. Lance watched Oliver
stroke himself from base to tip, pre-come leaking from his
cock.

How could such a strong, virile
shifter want him? He’d always felt the deck was stacked again him.
It seemed he had gotten a new dealer and won big.

By the size of Oliver’s rod he’d won
very big. He gulped. All of that was going to fit inside him?
Oliver had the longest cock he’d seen. He’d spear him in one
thrust.

Like what you
see?”

Mouth too dry to speak, Lance
nodded.

Oliver sidled into position, erection
in his meaty palm.

The Alpha lifted Lance’s left leg to
his shoulder and then his right, opening him wider.

Lance held his breath preparing for
the intrusion but it didn’t come. “You need to relax.”

I-I can’t.”

Oliver grunted. Cock still in one hand
he reached out with his other and stroked Lance’s rod. Fire sparked
under his touch and the breath he’d been holding burst free. The
Alpha’s teasing fingers covered every inch of his member until it
throbbed.

Lost in the headiness of their
connection, Lance didn’t worry when Oliver lined himself up at the
opening again. He buried himself to the hilt in one swift movement
and Lance howled, head dropping back into the pillow.

You’re tight.” Oliver’s
voice sounded strained. “I should have stretched you more.” He
leaned over him, lips close to his. Instead of a kiss the man’s
teeth sank into junction of his neck and shoulder. The pain
vanished and he felt as if he was flying, as if on a spirit quest,
but he didn’t know what answer he was seeking. The lone wolf, the
Alpha, his protector Oliver was his mate. From this second onward
until death did they part.

Lance. Lance.” Oliver’s
speech sounded garbled to his ears. “Lance, come back to
me.”

As if those were the magic words, his
wings stilled and he came in for a landing right in Oliver’s
arms.

He blinked. “Is it over?” Belatedly he
realized Oliver remained seated inside him.

No.” Oliver chuckled.
“We’re mated, but the fun is just beginning.”

He rocked his hips and Lance moaned.
Oliver filled every inch of him.

I want to see you come
apart, little wolf.” He thrust in a fast, steady pace.

His breath came in gasps. His balls
tightened along with a coiling rope inside him. Lance’s heart
punched his chest it beat so hard. Would he survive this coupling?
More. He wanted Oliver to touch him but he couldn’t form the
words.
