Chapter 17

This was it, sink or
swim.

Seth’s palms were
drenched in sweat as he pulled up the handle that held the side door of the RV
shut. His whole body was in a state of alert: hot and rigid, with his heart
beating so fast it felt like it grew, expanding to fill his whole chest.

Domenico’s back against
his was a comforting presence even now when only a wall of thin steel separated
them from a storm of bullets that would rip them apart like a pack of wild
dogs. Vincente’s voice was a buzz, sounding suave as he counted down.
8. 7.
6...

In a breathless moment,
Domenico pulled slightly away from Seth, who was focused only on two things. On
the door handle and the button beneath his thumb. Life or death.

The next second was a
whirlwind of noises, but he switched on the motorcycle the moment Dom’s back
was pressed tight against his again. His stomach clenched when the hen gave its
last cluck, thrown out the window by Dom, no doubt hovering in the air like a
bloodied
piñata
. The onslaught of bullets shot at the poor animal should
give them the seconds of distraction needed. The door gave, and Seth rushed
straight for the trees.

The motorcycle was so
alive between his thighs, like a young stud chasing a mare as it floated
through the air, making Seth’s stomach clench into a tight ball. Domenico’s
hand was steady on Seth’s hip, holding on tight even as he started shooting.

The roar of the engine
buzzed under Seth’s helmet, blurring out the sounds of bullets and screams.
From the corner of his eye, he noticed one of the mafiosi falling to the
ground, but this part of the plan wasn’t his concern. If Dom failed in shooting
as many of them as possible, they would die. If Seth crashed into a tree, they
would die. If Lucrezia didn’t distract the mafiosi enough, they would die. But
he was sure the motorcycle created enough chaos to buy them a precious second
or two. Now, he just needed to drive.

Landing on the soft
ground was surprisingly impactful, and for the briefest moment that seemed like
an eternity, he was certain they would fall. And then die. But no, pushing dry
leaves and dirt from beneath the wheels, the motorcycle rushed up the small
hill by the road, and as he listened to the bullets hitting the trees close to
them and Domenico answering with ferocious fire, all he could think about was
that Dom was effectively shielding him with his own body. He could lose Dom if
he didn’t carry him into safety on time.

The fractions of seconds
stretched every time a bullet flew by, but with the mafiosi on foot or in cars,
all Seth and Dom needed was to get out of reach. A low hanging branch hit his
helmet, but he managed to keep the motorcycle in balance with both of them. He
was aware that his machine was loud, so they needed to drive as far away as
possible to avoid being followed. Dom not shooting anymore was a good sign. So
was Dom grabbing Seth’s hips with his other hand.

Riding between the
trees, over unknown ground that was covered with piles of dried leaves with
some grass peeking out, felt like one of those video games you could operate by
maneuvering a mock bike. Only a ‘game over’ in this case would really be the
end for them. No additional lives or extra credit. The escape did feel like a
level-up though.

“I’m fine,” Dom yelled
over the roar of the engine.

Seth exhaled deeply. At
least that. He wasn’t even grazed either. This wasn’t the end though. They
needed to get as far away as possible, never be on TV, never appear anywhere
public. Maybe Argentina wasn’t such a bad idea. The Falklands? The forests of
Chile? One of those small islands in the middle of the ocean it took a few days
to travel to?

They sped through the
trees until they reached a small path, on which it was easier to drive. After a
good few minutes, Seth stopped the bike to let Dom change position, so they
wouldn’t be sitting back to back.

Domenico turned around
and pressed his body against Seth’s. This was Seth’s cue to go, and he went on
at the highest speed he could pull off without risk. They passed the most
beautiful scenery, but it couldn’t have seemed more bland and unimportant. They
drove over a lovely wooden bridge next to a lake house. They crossed an empty
asphalt road and drove on for hours. It was only in the late afternoon that
their gas ran out. They chose to take the bike with them not to leave any
traces behind, but when they stumbled upon a lake, the best way to get rid of
evidence was to drown it.

They hardly talked, but
Domenico insisted on holding Seth’s hand during the hike. Seth was sad to see
his Suzuki drown, but it was a small price to pay for having Dom even slightly
safer. The picturesque surroundings were now easier to appreciate and thanks to
keeping their other spare phone with them, they were sure they stayed on the
right track to move south.

As they walked along a
stream, trying to find a way to cross it, Seth smiled at Dom’s pink T-shirt and
took off his own. “Let’s swap, this one doesn’t suit you.”

Domenico looked down at
the unicorn on his chest and smirked, a welcome shadow of normalcy in the
middle of the woods. “Dead giveaway,” he said, pulling up the fabric to reveal
his sculpted body, but what drew Seth’s attention was the massive bruise on
Dom’s side.

“Does it hurt?” Seth
asked, as they swapped the T-shirts.

Dom gave him a weak
smile and traced the spill of color under his skin with his fingers. “A bit,
but I don’t think anything’s broken.”

Dom looked much more
normal in the black T-shirt, and Seth leaned over to give him a kiss. “I was so
scared for you in that fucking fridge.” The brief embrace only lasted a moment,
but it recharged Seth’s emotional batteries. They picked up their pace again.
At least it was warmer when they walked.

Domenico sighed. “If I
ever see you anywhere near a camera again, I will shoot you myself,” he said,
wiggling his index finger in front of Seth’s face.

Seth looked at his own
feet. “I wasn’t thinking. It’s crazy that they’d actually be watching some
niche show from the Memphis market.”

Domenico frowned. “Santo
showed me some website with that recording. You’re a fucking Internet
sensation. And so now you have to grow a beard and keep it until everyone
forgets your face.”

Seth’s eyes widened.
“What? I was just showing her my pig. It lasted maybe a minute.” This was a
fucking disaster. He wasn’t even all that sure if he wanted a beard in the long
run. Domenico took him out of the sudden stupor by pulling on his ear.

“And didn’t you promise
me not to buy a rooster? What the fuck was up with that? Can’t I trust you?”

Seth moaned, leaning
into the pull, so it would hurt less. “I just didn’t want Lucrezia to be
lonely.”

Domenico scowled. “She
would not be lonely because she’d become broth.”

Seth put his hands in
his pockets as they walked along the small river. “I’m sorry. I failed you
again.”

Domenico exhaled,
looking up into the tree tops. “You’re stupid.”

Seth put his face in his
hands. “I had good intentions. I always try my best, and stuff never works out.
Are you angry?”

Domenico slouched,
hiding his forehead behind his hand. For a moment he was completely silent, but
then the corner of his mouth twitched. “It’s only because of you that I walked
out of that RV alive.”

Seth looked at Domenico
and grabbed his hand, chest heavy with warmth. “I’d do anything for you. I’d
even have lived with you like a brother if you’d chose not to be with me after
the amnesia.”

Domenico let his head
fall back and moaned. “Oh, Christ! Stop using that word. We’re not
brothers
!”

“I’m sorry. But you know
what I mean. I wouldn’t want to force you into it.” Seth bit his lip.

Dom shook his head,
walking on. “Because that’s the type of guy you are. Forcing innocent boys into
your perverse clutches.”

“Don’t laugh at me. I
could have coerced you…”

“And then you’d come
over with a chocolate cake to apologize and ask whether I’m comfortable.”

Seth sighed and sped up
a bit. It was getting dark, and they didn’t know when or where they would
sleep. “You like chocolate cake…”

Domenico stopped so
abruptly Seth almost bumped into his back. “I’d kill people for a good
chocolate cake right now.”

Seth reached out and
stroked Dom’s long black hair. “I’m sorry, I don’t have any food. I might have
a few protein bars, but that’s it.”

Domenico groaned. “Not
your fault. If I only weren’t so fucking hungry all the time.”

“You didn’t lose your appetite
for meat in that slaughterhouse?” Seth tried to joke, but even the memory of
that place gave him shivers.

Domenico shrugged. “I’d
rather have something sweet,” he said as they went on.

“It’s kinda weird, I
have to admit,” Seth said and reached into the suitcase to get the protein bars
for Dom. “You never ate this sort of stuff before. And it’s like you’re not
gaining weight at all.”

Domenico turned on his
heel with a deep frown. “I didn’t?”

“Yeah, you even told me
once that eating too much ice cream is ‘girly’.” Seth couldn’t help but laugh
at it.

Dom looked away,
stuffing his palms under his armpits, visibly stiff. “Well then, apparently I
have tits. I fucking love ice cream.”

Seth cocked his head to
the side, and it finally clicked. “In New York, you had a whole trash can full
of cookie dough ice cream tubs, and you told me it was the cleaner’s thrash. I
bet you ate it all yourself!” Seth laughed out loud.

Dom scowled and marched
forward, not looking back, but Seth could see the bright flush on the back of
his neck.

“Oh, come on! Don’t be
so serious. It’s fine. You like ice cream and McDonald’s. I won’t tell anyone.”
Seth caught up with Dom and stroked that beloved hair. He still remembered how
Dom claimed only Belgian and Italian chocolate was tasty. He was such a snob.

“Ha. Ha. I’m crying with
laughter, Seth Villani,” Domenico growled, reminding Seth of a grumpy bear.

“I’m not laughing at
you, I’m laughing
with
you.” Seth grinned, trying to find some happiness
in this hopeless situation. “Go on, have a protein bar.”

Domenico stared at the
package Seth presented. “Cookies and cream?”

“Especially for you.
Because I love you.” Seth put an arm over Dom’s shoulders and nuzzled his
cheek. “What else do you like apart from cookie dough ice cream?”

Dom knocked his forehead
against Seth’s. “And Snickers bars.”

“And Snickers bars.”
Seth smiled and kissed his lips. “What else am I gonna find out? That you
actually like aloha shirts?”

Dom blinked at him, his
cheeks flushing. “The fuck? You know who wears that? Pervy grandpas who pinch
the nurses claiming they just can’t control themselves anymore!”

Seth put his arms around
Dom’s neck. “Dom, you’re so sweet. I promise you won’t have to wear one ever
again.”

“I’m gonna kick you in
the nuts if you don’t stop. It’s for your own good,” Dom said, his face dead
serious.

“Just eat your cookies
and cream bar first.” Seth’s smile widened, and he hugged Dom closer. When they
were all alone like this, only accompanied by the sounds of nature, life was
perfect.

Chapter 18

It took them about an
hour to reach a road, which they followed in the shadow of the trees, not
wanting to risk hitchhiking. One never knew who could see them. Domenico sped
up when he saw square-shaped lights in the distance. They were already out of
the woods, and it seemed that the bald area ahead was sparsely sprinkled with
houses. Domenico was visibly agitated, and it could have been due to the two
protein bars he had, but he was actually jogging whenever they got close to
different properties. Seth kept up with him, but noticed that Dom limped every
now and then. The wound in his leg from two months ago was still giving him
grief.

“So what’s the plan,
Dom? You wanna break into someone’s garage?” Seth asked as they approached a
modest, slightly unkept house with an old pickup truck in the front yard.

Dom looked back at him
in the darkness. “Are you kidding?” he whispered, walking to the back of the
house. There was laundry hanging in the backyard, and as they approached, a
fluffy white cat looked at them from a wooden porch by the back door. “We’re
sleeping in a bed tonight.”

Seth’s jaw tightened,
and all the humor left his body to be replaced with adrenaline. He wanted to
rest so badly, yet if this break in went wrong, they would need to be on the
road for another few hours.

“What do you need me to
do? We won’t kill anyone, right?”

Domenico nodded. “Let’s
hope not. We’ll cover our faces and get rid of all evidence before we leave.”
His hand trailed to the small of Seth’s back. “Stay outside for now while I
deal with this.”

Seth swallowed. “You
sure? I don’t want you to get hurt…”

He knew it was a silly
thing to say the moment Domenico flashed his grin in the darkness. “I’m pretty
sure I’ll be fine,” he said, pulling off his shirt only to tie it around his
head to hide his face and hair.

“I like you like this,”
Seth admitted. “When you can deal with shit. I mean, I would always take care
of everything if it’s needed, but you make me feel like anything’s doable.”

Wrinkles appeared at the
sides of Domenico’s eyes, and he slowly walked up to the door. It wasn’t even
locked, and he closed the door behind himself, sliding in like a ghost.

Seth sat in a swing
chair on the porch and couldn’t help the butterflies in his stomach. Domenico
was just so freakishly efficient. Watching him like this gave Seth the same
kind of pleasure as seeing Dom do amazing amounts of push-ups. He felt safe
around a guy like that. Even if it was him who came up with the motorcycle
plan, it was Dom who helped make it happen. Seth closed his eyes and breathed
in the fresh breeze carrying earthy scents from the woods. He blinked when the
cat approached him and sat down with its long neck stretched. It had a very
pretty snout.

“Hey there,” he
whispered and gently stroked the cat. It began pressing on his thigh with its
paws before purring as it sat in Seth’s lap.

Seth couldn’t hear
anything from the house, but he supposed Domenico could easily deal with a
bunch of civilians. He missed relaxing like this, just being somewhere and not
having to do a thing.

He didn’t know how much
time had passed, but there was a creak behind him, and when he looked back,
Domenico was leaning against the door with two glasses in his hands. “Do you
fancy some wine?”

Seth put the cat away
and got up with a smile. His heart melted when he looked at his handsome
boyfriend, so hot in just his jeans. He must have left the T-shirt somewhere.
“Is this a date?” Seth asked, not crossing the threshold just yet.

Dom grinned and handed
him one glass before slowly scooping him inside. “We need to celebrate that
we’re still alive. And the pantry’s full,” Dom said, locking the door with a
bolt.

Seth gave Dom a kiss
before tasting the red wine. “I’m so freaking hungry.” Seth stroked Dom’s back,
gentle over the bruises.

“Me too,” Dom said,
pulling Seth into a kitchen that looked like it belonged in the 1980s. It was a
large room, with boring wooden cupboards and a large fridge plastered with
photographs of children playing or being held by adult family members. There
were also two colorful crayon drawings, but Seth could hardly see that when Dom
switched off the light. It only then became clear that Dom must have switched
off all the other lights in the house.

“Feed me,” he whispered,
kissing Seth on the shoulder.

That’s all Seth wanted
to do. Show Dom his appreciation with some good food. “Make yourself
comfortable.” Seth smiled back at him before examining the cupboards and the
contents of the fridge. The place was well stocked, including lots of sweets.
There wasn’t time to make a big meal right now, but when Seth found the
ingredients for what he wanted to treat Dom with, he knew he hit the jackpot.
If Dom liked Snickers bars, he was in for a feast.

Domenico gave him a kiss
and walked out of the kitchen. A few moments later he came back with several
blankets and pillows, which he dumped on the floor. Dressed in a thick fleece
shirt that made him look no less handsome, he drank the rest of his wine and
molded himself to Seth’s back. “Remember what you touch, okay? We’ll have to
clean those things.”

“I will.” Seth was
already working on treats for Dom. The mini Snickers bars were in the freezer
and he was mixing the simple batter. There was no better way to cook than with
Dom hugging him, all eager to appreciate what Seth would make for him.

He used a match to light
the gas stove, and it gave him just enough light to work comfortably.
Domenico’s smell got stronger now that they were both warming up, and it
reminded Seth that Dom had been hugging carcasses in the morning. But he
couldn’t make himself push Dom away despite the slight stench. The soft hair
tickled his neck, carried by Domenico’s breath.

“I won’t ever lose you.”

“You better not try. I
would hunt you down.” Seth smiled and reached a pack of skewer sticks from the
cupboard.

Domenico chuckled, and
his warm hands squeezed around Seth’s midsection. “I’m sorry we can’t stay here
for longer. It’s a nice house, but they probably have neighbors who visit.”

“I could cook something
for them and leave it as an apology. They’re gonna be fine and we really needed
a break.” Seth turned around to give Dom a kiss.

Domenico sighed. “No,
they’ll be fine without it.”

Seth would make it
anyway, but for now, he nodded. “You go sit down and I’ll bring you my surprise
when it’s ready.” He pointed to the blankets and pillows.

“What if I fall asleep
before we can consummate the date?” Domenico got to his toes behind him,
pressing his face into the crook of Seth’s neck.

Seth unzipped his jeans,
and pushed them down with a grin. “I’ll just have to make sure I keep your
attention.” He pushed his shoes and pants off with his feet.

Domenico stared at his
ass as if it were the Holy Grail. “Okay... keep doing that.”

Seth put the batter into
the fridge. “You know what? The ingredients need to stay in the fridge for a
while longer anyway. How about we go take a shower? I mean… with all that
slaughterhouse mess, the hours of hiking…”

Domenico sighed and gave
him a curt nod, switching off the gas stove. “I guess you’re right. We’ve been
on the road all day, and we smell of it.”

“But promise me, no
snacking.” Seth slid out of the embrace. “But don’t use too much soap or
whatever. I wanna smell
you
.” He grinned, touching the ends of Dom’s
hair.

Domenico chuckled, and
as strange as it was, he seemed almost shy. “I’ll take the bathroom upstairs.
There is another one just out in the corridor,” he said, stepping away in the
light coming through the window.

Seth whistled. “This is
a proper date. No fucking before dinner.”

Dom sneakily slapped
Seth’s ass and walked off, disappearing through the door. As unpleasant as the
odor of the day was, Domenico undoubtedly smelled of victory.

Seth went over to the
other bathroom and washed all the dirt and sweat off himself. It felt good.
They almost died today, and now he could leave all that behind, let it flow
into the drain and away from his life. He felt as fresh as a newborn when he
left the bathroom. Seth even found an electric radiator, so he took that to the
kitchen and plugged it in so he could stay naked. He did put on an apron
though. Hot oil and naked skin wouldn’t have made good friends.

He was halfway through
the batch when he heard creaking in the corridor, and sure enough Dom emerged
through the door in all his naked glory. Black hair was sticking to his
handsome face in streaks and webs as he approached the makeshift bed on the
floor, squeaky clean and beautiful in the sparse light that stressed every
curve of muscle. Such a fucking tight body.

“Sorry to keep you
waiting.”

Seth stared at him
instead of the boiling hot oil where deep fried magic was happening. “I’m
almost done,” he muttered absent mindedly. There was such raw power in
Domenico’s body. A tension to his muscles even when he was relaxed. Seth never
knew a man like that before Dom.

Stretching his body on
the blankets, Domenico used one to hide his gorgeous flesh from sight, but his
eyes never left Seth. “I hope you’re only starting.”

“You ready to try?” Seth
pulled out the rest of the deep fried Snickers bar bites from the oil and
strained them slightly in a paper towel before putting them on a platter. He
had all sorts of sweet dips prepared out of things like chocolate sauce,
toffee, Nutella and peanut butter. He walked over to Dom and sat over his hips
with a smile.

It was very dark, but
when Domenico pulled himself up to sit against the pillows, Seth couldn’t help
but get hungry for more than food. Dom opened his mouth.

This was the test Seth
hoped to pass. He pushed a skewer into one of the deep fried pieces and dipped
it in peanut butter sauce before putting it in Dom’s mouth. His cock stirred
when he watched that pink tongue slide over the underside of the fried
Snickers, and just thereafter Dom chomped the whole thing off the skewer,
pulling it off like a hungry lion would a piece of meat.

The foodgasm visible all
over Dom’s face was enough to confirm how much he liked the caramelly chocolate
goo in crispy coating. Seth stuffed his mouth with one as well, but was ready
to feed Dom another one. “Oh! I forgot,” he said with his mouth full and
reached to the fridge. When he opened it, white light illuminated Dom in the
most perfect way, so he decided to keep it open for a while. He reached for the
vanilla ice cream he left in the fridge a few minutes ago, so it wouldn’t be
hard. The twinkle in Domenico’s eyes was all the praise he needed.

“You’re spoiling me
rotten,” Domenico chuckled. He slowly trailed his hands up and down Seth’s
thighs, gently pulling on the hairs on his body.

“Who am I to spoil? I
only have you.” Seth gave him a tender kiss before feeding Dom more deep fried
deliciousness with ice cream.

The food disappeared
quicker than Seth would have expected, and before he knew what was happening,
Dom took the lead and fed him some of the melting ice cream. As soon as Seth
swallowed, the ice cold spoon trailed down his chin, neck, chest, gently
spiraling around a nipple.

“You wanna eat me now?
Please, not with a spoon.” Seth laughed and dipped a piece of homemade sponge
cake he’d found in Nutella. He slowly rocked over Dom’s dick, teasing him
through the blanket.

Domenico bit his lip and
pushed his hips up so hard he lifted Seth. With a crooked grin he said. “I’m
not cheesy enough to eat ice cream off you. You’ll be much more delicious on
your own.”

“I might want to eat
this off you though…” Seth smiled and drizzled a bit of caramel on Dom’s cheek
before licking it off.

Domenico let out a laugh
and pushed the ice cream away. “Aren’t you cold?” he asked, pulling on the
blanket.

“I switched on a heater,
didn’t you see?” Seth pointed to the little radiator. “I’m actually hotter by
the minute.” He took off his apron and threw it to the side.

“Are you?” Domenico’s
coarse fingertips slid past Seth’s navel and dove into the thick hair on his
abdomen.

Those rough hands were
all Seth wanted to feel now. They had become so familiar yet always exciting.
He leaned down to kiss Dom’s lips, with his body already responding to the
touch with a shiver of anticipation. Seth couldn’t wait for Dom to hold him
close as they fucked, pull on his hair, make him feel the strength hidden in
those muscles made of steel. Even the cool glow from the open fridge couldn’t
kill the heat in Domenico’s eyes. They were burning for Seth, and that gaze was
so intense, so addictive that Seth didn’t even notice Dom moving before he
grabbed Seth’s cock.

Seth let out a soft moan
into Dom’s lips. He didn’t care they were homeless and on the run from the
mafia. Right now, it was him and Dom alone, fed, clean, and warm. Anything he
could want was coming in a matter of minutes, as he could feel Dom’s dick
stiffen under his ass. Being with Dom was so visceral, so full of sensations
that nothing could match it. Even in all the most mundane situations, when Dom
walked past him, or leaned over, Seth’s balls would tighten with pure lust,
thighs spread on their own as if he were in heat.
