would be the only way there wouldn’t be some sign of the gun being

fired.

Stormy Glenn

As he inched around the side of the house and made his way from

tree to tree, shrub to shrub, until he reached the thick woods on the

side of the house, Frank had to admit that they were probably dealing

with a professional.

Why a professional shooter would be after Seth was a complete

mystery to Frank. Seth was too sweet, too gentle. He didn’t make

enemies, he made friends. Even if he pissed someone off, they

wouldn’t be able to stay mad at him for long. They certainly wouldn’t

try to kill him.

Which told Frank this had to be coming from somewhere else.

There was some part of this that they were all missing. And Frank

was bound and determined to figure it out so that Seth would be safe

in his little world.

And then maybe he’d see if Seth would allow him to be a part of

that world because a life without Seth wouldn’t be any life at all.

Frank almost stumbled as that realization slammed into him.

Instant family or not, he wanted Seth for the long haul. He was

still scared, but he was more terrified of having a future without

Seth’s beautiful smile in it than he was about accepting Seth and his

daughter into his life.

Frank paused, crouching down behind a small grouping of trees,

when he felt Nick tug on his shirt. He lowered his gun and turned

toward his partner, an eyebrow raised in query.

“SWAT honed in on the shooter’s position,” Nick said as he held

up his cell phone. “They’re getting ready to go in. They want us to

hold this spot until they give the all clear.”

“Where is he?”

“North corner of the mansion across the street.”

Frank’s gaze swept the area again until he spotted the building

beyond the vast yard of Gideon Wulfe’s estate. He could just make

out the grey rooftop of the building. “That has to be over three

hundred feet away.”

“More like five,” Nick replied. “Whoever this is, he’s good.”

“He’s a professional.”

“That would be my bet.”

It took Frank a moment to realize that the shooting had stopped.

He had been so busy waiting for the next round of fire that he hadn’t

realized there hadn’t been one until several minutes went by.

“Did they get him?” Nick talked into his phone for a moment.

Frank could tell from the sour look in Nick’s eyes when he raised his

head that the shooter had gotten away. “Fuck!”

No longer worried that he would get shot, Frank stood and started

for the front of the house. “I want a full crime scene unit to cover

every inch of the shooter’s position. If there’s a leaf out of place, I

want to know about it.”

Nick nodded and started talking into his cell phone again.

“And tell them that this is in connection to Seth’s house blowing

up. That should get you whatever you need.”

Nick nodded again and continued talking.

Frank kept walking, coming to a stop at the bottom of the front

steps that led to Gideon’s massive stone mansion. It was an older

place, probably built around the turn of the century. Frank was pretty

sure that was the only thing that had kept the occupants alive. The

walls were literally made of stone.

Frank tensed when the front door suddenly flung open until he

saw the man running out. He bounded up the stairs, meeting Seth

halfway, enclosing the man in his arms. “Hey, babe. See, not a scratch

on me.”

Frank kept his arms around Seth, his body between him and the

outside world as he started leading Seth back into the house. Even if

the shooter had stopped shooting and moved from his spot, it didn’t

mean he still wasn’t around.

Seth did not need to be outside at the moment.

As Frank hurried Seth into the house, his eyes fell on all of the

shattered glass from the windows and the chipped wooden floors. He

suddenly realized how close Seth had come to dying.

Everything in Frank froze.

He grabbed Seth by the hand and started dragging him down the

hallway, opening door after door until he found an empty bathroom.

Frank shoved Seth inside and followed him.

Frank gave Seth a throaty growl as he turned back around, moving

toward Seth’s body in a slow and possessive prowl, drinking Seth in

with his eyes. He rested his hands on the wall on either side of Seth’s

head, and he lowered his mouth to Seth’s.

The need to take Seth, to claim him and prove to himself that the

man was alive and well was stronger than anything Frank had ever

felt before. Frank had waited so fucking long to feel like this about

someone that he feared it being over in a heartbeat.

Seth placed his hands on Frank’s arms, holding them there loosely

as Frank tilted his head, running his tongue over Seth’s lips, nipping

the bottom one. He pulled back when Seth tried to take more.

Frank pressed Seth against the wall, pinning him there with his

larger body. Seth’s hands moved from Frank’s arms and wrapped

around his neck in one swift motion. Raw lust glittered in those

beautiful eyes.

Frank grabbed Seth’s shirt and lifted it to his wrists, locking them

in place. Seth licked his lips as he panted, staring up at Frank. Frank’s

hand snaked between them, unfastening Seth’s jeans and pulling his

heavy and aching cock free.

He gave one last nip to Seth’s lip before dropping down and

devouring the man’s thick cock. Frank didn’t take lightly, and he

wasn’t one to hesitate. He sucked Seth’s crown, circling his tongue

around, and then backed off.

He needed in Seth now.

“Tease,” Seth hissed.

“Take these jeans off, and I’ll show you a tease.” Frank pulled at

the waistband, bringing the fabric down to Seth’s ankles, removing

his shoes. Frank yanked them the rest of the way off. Frank stood over

Seth, giving the man an eyeful of what he had to offer. The lustful

way Seth was staring at him made Frank rock hard.

He fisted Seth’s cock in his hand. He kissed Seth, pouring all his

emotions into that one intimate act. A web of arousal spun around him

as he squeezed the man’s shaft, his thumb caressing over the leaking

head.

Frank growled when the door was cracked open and a bottle

tossed in, before the door clicked closed.

He chuckled when he realized it was lube.

“Damn, there is no privacy around here.” Seth said as Frank

leaned over him, grabbing at the bottle.

“Are you complaining when it will get us both what we want?”

He moaned as he lubed his cock with one hand, getting the slick stuff

all over the place and giving a shit less about it. He threw the bottle

down and pressed forward.

Frank lifted Seth up in his arms, pinning the man against the

counter, swinging Seth’s legs up and over his arms, and then pushing

them back to chest. Seth’s tight hole smiled up at him, and Frank’s

teeth began to ache in desire to sample it.

Later.

He needed to be inside Seth now, damn it. Now wasn’t soon

enough for Frank.

“Oh, god,” Seth moaned as Frank thrust hard and deep. Seth

bucked, wrapped his ankles around Frank’s back, and arched for him

to go even deeper.

Frank lifted his head, staring down at the passion on Seth’s face.

That one look had Frank craving the bond that could only come

between two people that truly cared about each other.

Seth howled as Frank powered his pelvis into Seth’s ass. “Fuck,

yeah,” Seth shouted, grabbing Frank’s shoulders as he came hard.

Frank’s balls were aching for a similar release. He was relentless,

plowing into Seth.

Frank threw his head back as a loud groan ripped from his chest.

He drove harder, faster as Seth cried out again. Frank collapsed on top

of Seth, sweaty, sticky, and sated. He pushed his hands under Seth as

he held him close.

“I’d really appreciate it if you could try and stay out of trouble for

a little while.” Frank leaned back and stroked the sweaty hair out of

Seth’s face. “Just for a couple of days.”

Seth’s eyes twinkled as he laughed. “I’ll see what I can do.”

Frank doubted Seth would be able to do it. The man seemed to be

permanently attached to trouble. “Come on. We need to get dressed

and get back out there before they come looking for us.”

“Yeah. That would be bad.”

Frank couldn’t help but watch as Seth cleaned up and then pulled

his clothes back on. The man was one of those unique individuals that

was breathtaking without even trying, and Frank doubted Seth even

knew it.

He could stare at Seth for hours and not get bored.

When Seth turned and raised an eyebrow at him, Frank flushed at

having been caught gawking, and hurried to get dressed. Before

leaving the bathroom, he leaned in for one more kiss, and almost

stayed where he was. Only the sound of people walking outside the

bathroom made him move.

Gideon was just coming down the grand staircase when Frank and

Seth stepped out of the bathroom and walked down the hallway to the

foray. Ivan met them at the bottom of the stairs.

“Where’s Micah?” Seth asked.

“Safe room,” Gideon replied.

Seth glanced up. Frank nodded, and Seth took off up the stairs.

Frank waited until he disappeared before turning to Ivan and Gideon.

“I want to know who is after Seth.”

Gideon’s eyebrows shot up. “And you believe we know?”

“Yes.” Frank ground his molars together to keep from shouting.

“Seth is too sweet to piss someone off this bad.”

Gideon rubbed the back of his neck as glanced at Ivan. Frank

could see some silent message pass between the two men. They knew

something.

“Tell me what in the hell is going on or so help me…”

Gideon grimaced as he looked back at Frank. “Would you like a

drink?”

Frank glanced at his watch then at Gideon, his eyes widening.

“This early in the day?”

“I think the situation calls for it.” Gideon turned and started

heading toward the left side of the staircase and down the hallway. “I

know I could sure use one.”

Frank looked toward the second floor landing. “What about Seth

and Micah?”

“I have them.” Ivan nodded toward the front door where a number

of armed men were standing just inside the doorway. “I’ve doubled

the guards for now, and the safe room can only be accessed by

Gideon or myself. Seth and Micah are perfectly safe.”

If Gideon Wulfe was somehow involved with what was going on,

Frank wasn’t sure Seth would be safe until he was away from here.

Unfortunately, he had nothing to go on at the moment. Just a gut

feeling, and that wasn’t enough. He needed more.

He needed Gideon to talk.

Frank followed Gideon down the hallway to what was obviously a

very nice office. It was large enough to fit the entire first floor of

Frank’s apartment, complete with doors that led to the back patio.

Frank was a little surprised when Gideon poured them both a

drink then walked over to gaze out the windows. “Don’t you think

you should stay away from the windows?”

“They’re bulletproof. They also have a film on them that allows

us to look out but people can’t see in. I could stand here all day, and

as long as no one sprays the windows with bullets, they would never

know I am there.” There was a wry grin on Gideon’s face when he

glanced over his shoulder. “The windows on the front of the house

were supposed to be replaced next week.”

Great
.

“Do you know who is after Seth?” Frank asked.

“Not positively, no.” Gideon took a sip from his glass as he

turned. “But I have my suspicions.”

“I’m listening.”

Gideon walked over to a wooden cabinet against the wall and

pulled it open. He grabbed a stack of files out and then closed the

doors. Frank’s eyebrows shot up when Gideon walked back over to

his desk, tossing a couple of them down on the polished wood.

“This is your file.” Gideon said as he held one up for Frank to see,

and then tossed it onto the desk with the others. “I had you

investigated.”

“Me?”

“I have everyone Seth associates with investigated.”
