GIBBS
We tumble in my front door, both of us bumping into the facing. “Ouch,” “Shit,” we both mumble out.
In the truck on the way here, the tension was so thick I was barely able to breathe. I need to be with her, I should’ve never given up on her three years ago. I should’ve fought harder to make her mine.
Reaching down, I grab her shirt and pull it over her head, throwing it somewhere while I back her against the foyer wall. She moans as I kiss down the side of her neck, feeling her pulse race. “Fuck,” she groans. “Why did we wait so long to do this?”
I snatch my shirt over my head. “Fuck if I know.”
At some point she’s removed her bra and kicked off the shoes she was wearing. She fumbles with her jeans as I kick off my boots, shoving my jeans down my legs. We stop for a heated moment and stare at each other, her in a skimpy pair of red panties and me in a pair of boxer briefs that are really uncomfortable at the moment. Her hands move before mine as she grabs my hips to shove the constricting underwear down. She starts to kneel down in front of me, but I stop her. “Firecracker, if you put your mouth on my cock right now, I’ll explode and it’ll all be over too soon.”
I slide her panties down her legs and grab her under the ass to lift her. Planting her against the wall, I slide a hand around to feel her soft core. “Baby, you’re already wet.”
She sucks in a breath and nods.
Positioning myself, I thrust my dick inside of her. She cries out so I stop. “Are you okay?”
She nods quickly with a heavy breath, “It’s just been awhile.”
I can’t help but feel some relief. “Good.” Thrusting in and out of her in the hallway is fine, but I want her in my bed.
Pulling away from the wall, I carry her down to my bedroom as she grinds on me. Laying her back on the bed, I flip her on her stomach and put her on all fours. Slamming into her, I slap her ass. “I told you I was gonna spank your ass and I meant it.”
“Oh god, Clay!” she pants out.
“What do you need, Firecracker?”
“You. Just you.” She throws her head back, red hair flying. “Oh harder! I’m almost there. God, Clay!” she cries out as I slam into her harder, finding my own release.
As I pull out, I realize there’s a problem. “Um, Firecracker?”
She collapses on the bed. “Yeah?”
“Ah, I got so worked up…I um, um didn’t use a condom.”
She bolts up. “Fuck, I can’t believe I just did that. She starts doing something with her fingers, like she’s counting.
“Firecracker, what are you doing?”
“We should be okay. I counted my days and my fertile days won’t be for another few days, so we should be good. I mean I’m still on a light dose birth control, but I’ll admit I’m not great about taking it like I’m supposed to. My hours are crazy.”
I grab her arms. “Hey, it’s okay. I’m not mad, I just don’t want you upset.”
“Okay. I mean I’m a little freaked out and part of me wants to run to CVS to grab the Plan B, but like I said, I think we’ll be okay.”
That kinda hits me. “I wouldn’t want you to go get Plan B. You didn’t with
Jock Strap
, but you would with me?”
She shakes her head. “That’s not what I’m saying. It’s just after going through what I did with Brett, I don’t know if I could handle it again.” I’m getting angry now. Does she think I’d do what he did to her? It’s as if she realizes that. “Wait. No, I don’t mean the relationship stuff, I mean the miscarriage and all.”
I nod, letting my heart rate calm down. “Oh, yeah, sorry. I just-.”
“No, I get it. You thought I was comparing you to him.” She shakes her head. “I would never. You know that, right?”
“Yeah, I know that. It just hit me wrong for a second. I’m sorry.” I touch the side of her face and brush it with my thumb. When I look at her in the eye, I see her vulnerability. It’s not something she shows to many people. “I’d never let you go through that alone like you did with him. I’d be there with you every step of the way.”
She nods. “Yeah, I know. It’s still just hard to think about ever having to go through it again.”
“Let’s just get some sleep,” I say, lying down next to her.
Lying there quietly for a few moments, she finally speaks. “I didn’t think to go get the Plan B with Brett, because I didn’t know the condom broke. He didn’t tell me and I didn’t pay attention. Once I figured it out, it was too late.”
“He didn’t tell you the condom broke? What an asshole.” That makes me want to drive to Tampa Bay and kick his ass.
“He said that he didn’t think it was a big deal because he knew I was on birth control. But he didn’t think about the fact that I’d recently changed pills. It was all fucked up.” She settles against me.
I run my hand down her side as we doze off.

“Oh, how fucking convenient is this?” I’m jolted awake by those words.
Jade and I both bolt up in the bed. “Gia, what the fuck are you doing in here? How the hell did you get in?”
She stands at the foot of my bed with her hands on her hips. “I have a key. How did you think I got in here all those times?”
She had a point. I’d never really thought about it. “Well, I’ll have the locks changed. So you can get the fuck out.”
Jade, still sitting here quiet, grabs a shirt from the end of my bed and slips it on.
“Oh, you don’t need to cover up now,
Jade.
I’ll be gone in a minute. I just came to tell Gibbs here that I’m pregnant. Congrats, you’re going to be a father, asshole.” She turns and storms out of the room.
I jump up, grabbing a pair of gym shorts. “Just stay here, I’ll be back.”
I follow Gia out into the living room. “Gia, stop. What the fuck are you talking about? You can’t just bust into my damn house and announce shit like that and then run out.”
She spins around. “Oh yes the fuck I can. I came here to tell you and find you fucking her.” She points down the hallway.
I put my hand up. “First off, you never should have just busted in my house. Second off, you didn’t find us fucking, you woke us up. Third, what I do is my fucking business. Also, you could’ve called to let me know we needed to talk. Not just bust in my fucking house and scream at me.”
“Well, please forgive me. I’m just a little hormonal.” She starts crying.
Fuck me.
“I’ll be right back.” I walk down the hall and find Jade already dressed.
She looks up. “Um, I’m gonna go. I called a cab, it should be here soon. You need some time to talk about all of this and I don’t need to be here for it.”
What else can I say? She’s right. I grab a t-shirt and slip it on. “Yeah. I’ll call you later.”
She nods and goes to the front door. Running my fingers through my hair, I walk back to the living room and sit on the couch. “So let’s talk.”
Gia gives me a huge smile and sits down.
JADE
Three weeks have passed since that night with Clay. I haven’t been able to bring myself to return his texts or calls. I need time to process all of this. I’d just decided to try and make some steps to set up my own future.
I’ve already had a couple of job offers for the hospitals I’m currently working at. The one here has offered me a nice part-time position and the one about forty-five minutes away has also offered me a part-time position. A hospital in Gainesville offered a full-time position but with Kara being pregnant and Mom’s health, I feel like I should be closer to home. I didn’t get to be around much for most of the time she was pregnant with Krista, so I want to be here to help this time.
I’ve decided to take the two part-time positions. I’ve even found an apartment between the two that will work with my budget. Sly is helping me to get it all set up, he didn’t really give me that much of a choice. He said that I needed to be in my place and settled before I start work. When I made the argument that I needed a paycheck first to do that, he made me take the money to get set up, saying that I could pay him back once I started work.
It was useless to argue with him. Plus he was under a lot of stress and Kara said I needed to let him do this. Clay and Gia came forward and told everyone that she’s pregnant with his baby. He moved her in with him. My sister tells me that it’s just so he can help her, that Gia is living in the spare room, and he made it clear to everyone that he’s only doing this for his kid. He admitted to all of the guys that they had a friends with benefits relationship and that he’d decided to end it right before Gia told him she was pregnant. She said the guys took it a lot better than she expected. I have a feeling that Clay told my sister something and that’s the reason she’s been sharing all of this with me, but I can’t find it in my heart to care right now.
My graduation was last weekend, but I could only invite my immediate family. So that meant Mom, Kara, Sly and Krista. Which was great in a way, I don’t really want to see everyone else. I mean I know they’re happy for me and stuff, but I have a feeling everyone knows about the morning Gia came over. I just don’t want to live with the looks.
So I’m scarfing down the damn pizza I got delivered so I can get a good night’s rest for my state board tomorrow. All of this moving and everything with my schedule has me all screwed up. I’m freaking starving and I’ll just be glad when things settle down. Tomorrow has my damn nerves shot. I know the material and I know I should be ready, but part of me is afraid I’m going to wake up in the morning and not remember a damn thing.
My phone pings with a text.
CLAY: Your sister told me your state board is tomorrow. I’d wish you good luck, but I know you’re going to rock it.
I can’t bring myself to text him back. Even just a simple
Thanks.
I need to move on past him and past what I thought we had. He’s not available.
Suddenly, my pizza isn’t so appealing. After throwing it in the fridge, I grab my notes and go to my room to study for tomorrow.
~*~*~
My sister had demanded that I come over tonight and have dinner with them and my mom to celebrate my test results.
I’m really not in the mood. I’ve felt like shit since I took my test. I’m pretty sure I just made myself sick with worry. The morning I got there for my test, I freaked out, started crying and threw up.
It was like I realized that one test would determine the rest of my life. I knew if I didn’t pass it, everything I’ve done for the past five years would be for nothing.
Luckily, here I am pulling up in front of my sister’s place to celebrate the fact that even though I thought I bombed it, I passed with flying colors.
I knock on the front door and Sly’s silly ass opens it, grinning. “It’s the graduate.”
“Can you stop calling me that?” I say as I enter the room.
“Come on, they’re in the backyard. I need to get back before your sister burns the shit on the grill.” He pats my shoulder. “You know I love your sister, but she can’t grill for shit.”
I laugh as we go through the back door. “Surprise!”
Looking around the backyard, I see everyone. Krista and Lincoln come running up to me. “Sapwize!”
I laugh at them and bend down to hug them. “Thanks, guys.”
Slick comes up and hugs me. “Congrats, Jade.” He blushes as he speaks. In my mind I still see that little boy I babysat. He’s grown so much since then. I see him being quite the heart throb in a few years.
Messing up his hair, I smile. “Thanks, bud.”
My sister appears in front of me. “I wanted to celebrate your accomplishment. You rock. I also knew that you wouldn’t let me if I gave you a say in it. So-.” She motions around her backyard at the people. “I decided to surprise you.”
She’s right, I wouldn’t go along with this if she’d asked. I really don’t feel like facing any of these people. They know everything I’ve done. I’m sure I look like the biggest fucking idiot.
I see Sly by the grill. “Hey, um, is there any liquor at this party?”
He shakes his head. “Yeah, go check the cabinet in the kitchen.”
“Thanks.”
I make my way into the kitchen and fill a cup with ice. Opening the cabinet, I find a bottle of vodka. Not my normal, but it’ll work. As I shut the cabinet, I come face to face with a very smug looking Gia.
“So I guess we both have something to celebrate, huh?”
I roll my eyes. “What do you mean?”
“I mean Gibbs and I having a baby, living together, and you finally getting to move on with your life. You know, now that you’re finished with school,” she says with this huge smile that if she wasn’t pregnant, I’d knock off her face.
Opening the bottle of vodka, I start to pour it on my ice. “Thanks,” I bite out.
She grins. “Thanks, Jade.” She looks around. “I really appreciate you being so sweet about all of this and stepping away like Gibbs asked you. I know you and him hooking up while we were separated had to confuse things, but now we’re back together and we just want what’s best for our child.”
She spins and practically bounces out of the kitchen.
Did he really fucking tell her that? That he asked me to step aside? Fuck him.
I go to take a drink out of my cup, but suddenly I don’t want it. The back door flies open with Huck running through the house. “What’s going on?” I say, dropping the cup in the sink.
He turns back to me. “I’m grabbing the car. Kara just passed out.”
I go running to the backyard, seeing Sly carrying her around the house to the car. I take off out the door running to Mom. “Mom?”
She shakes her head, crying. Elaine looks to me. “She’s worried that everything that’s been going on with Kara is pointing to the fact that she could be diabetic like her. Eve never had diabetes until she got pregnant with you.”
“Come on, Mom, we’ll follow them to the hospital.”
Elaine smiles. “I’ll take your mom. You stay here and enjoy the party.”
I shake my head. “No, I’m not really in the mood to party. I’ll just be worried about Kara.”
She nods. “Okay. I understand. I’ll take Krista home with Marco and me.”
I smile back to her. “Thanks, Elaine.”
Once I make it around the house with Mom, Clay is standing beside my car. “Do you need me to drive?”
“Uh, no. I’m fine. We’ve got this. I’m sure the guys could use some help cleaning up.” I look back as I open my door. “Thanks for coming or whatever.”
As I pull away, he just stands there with a confused look on his face.
Once we get to the hospital, I make my way through the emergency room.
Thank God for a hospital badge
. Once Mom and I get back to where my sister is, I see Sly. “Hey, how is she?”
He nods. “Dr. Jennings is checking her now. He said that he thinks she could be having trouble with her sugar. When he looked over her blood work from the last few appointments, Dr. Coleman had been worried as well.”
I shake my head. “Who is Dr. Jennings?”
Sly smiles. “He’s the new guy in Dr. Coleman’s practice. He’s a nice guy, I like him, even if he’s young. He’d just started when she was pregnant with Krista.” I guess being locked away in the pharmacy I really don’t see many of the doctors’ faces. Come to think of it, I think I have seen that name before.
About that time, the door to the room opens. “Okay, Sly, she’s dehydrated and needs some rest so I’m admitting her for overnight at least. We have to get her sugar under control. I’m upset that she didn’t talk with you about it after her last appointment with Dr. Coleman.”
Sly nods. “I am, too, so I will be going to every appointment from now on.”
I look to Sly. “Elaine took Krista with her. I can grab my stuff and stay with Kara tonight since I have to be here so early tomorrow anyway.”
“Nah. You take Eve home. Get a good night’s rest and come see her in the morning when you get here. I’m sure you’ll be able to give her an ear full before she checks out.”
I laugh. “Okay.”
Dr. Jennings smiles at me. “So you work here?”
“Yes. I’m one of the part-time pharmacists.”
“Wow. I didn’t know they kept pretty women like you locked up down there.”
I laugh. “Yep, but don’t worry, once I’m behind the locked door I turn into a total nerd.”
He sticks his hand out. “Nice to meet you. I’m Gavin, maybe I’ll see you around.”
I nod. “Maybe. Thanks for keeping an eye on my sister.”
He starts walking. “No problem.”
I think he was flirting with me.
Yep, I may be out of practice, but he was flirting with me. I’m right, I have to move on with my life and he’d be a good first step.
