“
You’re too good you know.”
I told him.
“
Not good
enough.”
“
I promise you not being
here won’t give you less of a chance to be with me. I feel so
selfish that I keep you and Tae in the air. I just.. can’t chose.
It’s not the right time. I feel as if… if I chose who to be with, I
then might.. die from the stupid mistakes I make. I can’t bear to
think I could lose one of you, not to mention you feeling that as
well… for me.”
“
I know you mean well. I
know you would protect me and Tae, as well as your brothers without
a doubt. You’re strong enough though. Not just in your powers, but
in your heart.. your soul. You
will
do the right thing in the end.”
“
What if I
don’t?”
“
You will.” He spoke to me
so softly. I almost felt his soft pale skin touching mine. At this
very moment, I felt a connection with him that I have never felt
before. It was strong and warm love. The love for a hunter. For a
split second I wondered if it was my hunger for his lovely soul,
but I shook it off quickly. No, it was all me. I felt the need of
protection for him. Stronger than anyone else’s. Maybe it because
he was weaker than the lycans, or maybe it was just pure
love.
“
I’ll see you in a few.” I
told him and he left the room right after.
Amabel, it’s against nature. This isn’t right. You will lose
all the abilities of a watcher. There will be no one to protect the
human life.
I heard Tae tell me in my mind.
He listened. I couldn’t possibly be mad at him for that, but I
still felt betrayed. Not because he loved another woman, but
because he lied.
Don’t.
Is all I told him.
My heart didn’t want to believe that I
wouldn’t be a watcher any longer. What my heart felt was a want for
protection. It wanted to protect the people who were truly my
family.
“
I want to be happy! I don’t
want to worry about others any longer. I don’t want to wake up
every morning hoping no one will get attacked. Being a watcher does
not satisfy me!” I screamed out loud, knowing the whole house heard
me. I collapsed to the ground, and broke down. I got pushed with
abilities that I did not want to begin with. I fell in love with a
hunter and a lycan, who are both not part of the everyday society.
My family wasn’t just my parents, but my protectors. I can tell
staggers to go away and what, they just do? This was ridiculous. If
this was nearly a year ago and I saw some girl glowing in bright
red, I don’t think I would just walk by. These abilities that I had
didn’t seem ordinary. I felt as if the watcher abilities within me
didn’t accept me as a human.
Today, I will coincide with the hunters. I
have decided. I will agree to losing the powers as long as my
family will be forever safe. I quickly packed a few shirts and
pants, and headed out the door. The guys weren’t paying much
attention. They apparently got a new toy to play with, a
television. I took in their laughs, and went my separate way from
them.
As I walked towards the parked car by the
lake, I made sure to turn off any connections I had with Tae. He
would be my main worry. In some oddly way, he was the only able to
fully get in my mind.
The drive wasn’t long, since I had only
memories running through my mind. I paid attention to all my
feelings and the touches I felt with my fingers. I wanted to
treasure anything I had as a human since I didn’t know what to
expect as a hunter.
“
This is it.” I told myself,
as I pulled up down the mansion’s driveway. “This is finally it.” I
got out of the car with confidence and walked to the main door. The
guards were already there, and brought me in. They weren’t as
gentle as the first time and made sure to look around if I brought
anyone else. My last visit terrified them I’m guessing.
“
No one is with me.” I told
them calmly. The tall older guard looked at me with one eye brow
raised, and then looked away quickly.
“
Amabel? What do you think
you’re doing?” It was Argem. Just the person I wanted to
see.
“
I need to talk to you. I
have a composition.” He looked at me as if I was crazy, but
accepted it.
“
Okay then, talk.” He wasn’t
speaking kind today, but I wouldn’t accept him to. So I got right
to the point.
“
I will not marry you, but I
will change. I am willing to lose all my powers, but on one
condition.”
“
What is that?”
“
You will not send those
staggers back out, and you will
not
touch my family.” Argem looked surprised with my
determination, but my expression never changed. I was ready to get
rid of all the feelings I had. I didn’t want to feel betrayal from
Tae or the constant urge of hunger for Kierce. I wasn’t ready to
take on the consequences of a watcher, but I was damn ready to take
the ones of a hunter.
“
Well.. I will talk to
Luthius once more. You know where your room is.” He told me. “Oh
and.. Amabel? I
will
marry you one day.” He added right before he walked
away.
“
Ha.” I laughed to myself
and made my way to the white pearl room I was presented to last
time. Tonight would be filled with dread.
The night went by slow, and I decided to take
a tour around the house. The upstairs was just room after room. Not
much to see there. As I walked down the stairway to the first
floor, Kierce ran in through the door.
“
Oh my god! Amabel!” He
screamed and ran over to me. I’m guessing the guards didn’t know
about him, and thought he was just coming back home.
“
Kierce, please
no.”
“
No Amabel. You don’t
understand! Tae is going nuts! He’s tearing everything apart at the
house. He brought down about a dozen of trees. The brothers had to
force him down. How are you doing this again?” I felt the pain, and
the sadness. Instead of making this better like I have wanted to,
it just made it worse.
“
He’s going to have to deal
with it.”
“
Amabel. You may cause
another war. Tae will not let this happen. He will
not
.”
“
Don’t you want me to change
though? Don’t you want to see me every day as a hunter. Like
you?”
“
Yes, I would love that.
It’s everything I have ever wanted, but you’re wrong. You don’t
know the consequences.”
“
I know one thing. My family
will be left alone.”
“
Amabel. I want you to
change, but for me. If Argem makes the change.. you will forever be
in his will.” My heart started to tremble at the thought. No, this
isn’t what I wanted. Why haven’t he told me before. Why has he not
warned me the first hundred times I’ve done this.
“
Well well. The lovely
couple that will soon be torn apart.” It was Luthius.
“
Father.. I.”
“
No, son. You don’t have to
explain. I understand you love her. I forgive you. You very well
know though, that she will not be yours.” Luthius was telling
Kierce. It sounded as if I was a piece of meat that was being
decided on who would owe it. “Samuele is already on his way. Your
appearance, Amabel, just made it good timing.” In a way. I was glad
Samuele hasn’t done anything himself. I was still clueless to the
powers he was capable of.
“
I know.” Kierce answered
him with his head down. “I know.” He repeated.
“
I will leave you two be.
You only have a few more hours left. Midnight will be the time.”
Luthius told us and walked away.
“
Kierce.. I.. didn’t
know.”
“
I know you didn’t. It was
all my fault.”
“
No. This is all
my
fault. It’s my fault
for falling in love with you and Tae. It will also be my fault for
hurting both of you. It was my fault of my brother’s death and all
the scars you guys have from fights. I am not going to be protected
anymore. I will be my own person.” I told him, confident with my
choice now. Everything felt, almost, right.
Amabel! How could you!
Tae got
through to me.
How could you do this to
your family. Your mother! Me! How could you Amabel. My love.
I felt the tears start up, but I held them back. I
didn’t want to tell Kierce that Tae has contacted me, and I also
didn’t want Tae to know I heard him.
Amabel, please my love. My life. Answer me. Please.
Tae pleased in my mind. The pain was too strong. I
could feel his heart being ripped in half. I could feel his skin
burning up with anger, yet such strong ache. I wanted to tell him I
was doing it for him. I wanted to tell him it was
all
for him.
Amabel. Please answer me. Please.. come back to
me.
I did not.
“
Amabel, may I have a talk
with you?” Samuele has arrived. He was closer than I
thought.
“
Sure.” I told him and we
took a walk into his room. The one with a simple office desk right
in the middle of it. Behind, the beautiful painting that was too
mysterious.
“
I wanted to talk to you
about the consequences of being a hunter. Luthius told me your
choice, and how you are definite. I am hoping no lycans come and
ruin it all. I will not be happy with you Amabel.” He told me
focusing into my eyes.
“
I have not told them to
come. I also have not communicated with them.”
“
Okay then. I can start.
When Argem changes you, it will be nothing you have ever felt
before. You will feel pain of the toxicant running through your
veins. You may see visions of the unknown. But most of all, you may
not be like any hunter. I feel as if you will be special, as I am.
I have gladly accepted being a hunter, and I hope you will as well.
I cannot be sure if the watcher will leave you for good, but there
is a chance. If that happens, you need to tell me now. Who will you
choose? Siding with us, the hunters, or siding with the lycans
against your own kind.” I didn’t understand his question. Was he
trying to tell me that I will still be a watcher?
“
I don’t
understand.”
“
I suppose you wouldn’t. I
cannot say anymore, because I am not sure of this. You need to tell
me now. Will you side with your own kind, or against
us?”
“
How can I answer you such a
question if I am not a hunter yet. I don’t know what I will be
feeling then.”
“
If you answer me now and
make it set in your mind. You will proceed with that decision as
you change.”
“
Will my family be safe?
Will Tae?”
“
Yes. I promise you that.
Only if no one pulls any stunts.”
“
I can’t.. promise you that.
I can’t control them.”
“
Not yet you can’t.” Samuele
told me with an awkward smile, and showed me my way out. What was I
getting into? Was this going to be worse than death?
I stepped out into the main room, and stood
there still for a few second. I felt that hunger once more. I
needed it more than a hunter probably needed blood. This was
something intense. I could see myself sucking the light blue glow
from the hunter’s mouth. I could feel the emptiness be filled with
pleasure. I needed to feel consent right now, but it was not
possible. This horrible thing a watcher was. How could I be
something so wrong yet so protective of the human kind.
A few seconds later, I smelled the human
blood. It was close, but not close enough. I smelled the stink
coming from a hunter. He was nearby.
“
Amabel!” It was Tae. He
barged in through the door and stopped as he seen me across the
room. He looked like hell. His eyes were sunk in and his tan skin
was now lost of color.
“
Tae.” I whispered, and felt
a sudden rush of cold air. I looked to my side. It was Argem. I
felt my heart throbbing as the clock rang twelve. Argem dashed
towards me too fast.
“
Amabel!” I heard Tae
scream. I looked over at him, accepting to run, but it was too
late. I felt Argem’s teeth sink into my neck. I felt the sharp pain
of a hunter’s daggers. There was sudden death in the air. The pain
struck throughout my body, as my body fell limb on the floor. I can
hear Argem laughing, and Tae now holding me tight. My vision
disappeared, and now it was only the conversion left.
The pain was indescribable. It was nothing
like a thousand sharp knives impaling me. It was much worse.
Something was burning in me, almost as if I was sitting in the
flames of a fire. I felt my heart beat getting slower. As the pain
increased, so did my screaming. I no longer heard Tae panic, or
Argem’s laugh. I heard the sizzling of my panicked soul.
The life was being drained out of me by the
second. I did not stop to scream. My body was on flames and I could
feel the cold blood running by. I now focused on Tae and his
beautiful face. I imagined his strong arms rescuing me from this
terror. I soon after versioned Kierce with his amazing eyes,
staring me down, happy I am one of them.
The different thoughts made this just more
intense. I felt myself being drained to the past, visioning my
father teaching me how to ride my bike. Then seeing my mother
showing me how to cook bread. I remembered the dreams of when Tae
rescued me from the attack of the hunters. They killed my father,
now I will be one of his destroyers. The pain did not decrease.
