Chapter 9

Mark

"It was a fluke."

Zoe's words pierced my mind like a blade saw cutting me in half. So she thought it was an error. It broke my heart somewhere deep down.
Fuck, she is making me crazy again.
Being near her was a torture in itself.
What should I do to get rid of her?
I wish I could just fire her, but that would only break my heart more. I was getting tormented by my own feelings again and again.

The more I saw her, the more attracted to her I got.  And the kiss was the final step in that process. Goddamn, I was cursing those lips for being too hard to resist. Whenever I closed my eyes, I could see her lips kissing my lips. And the other times those bold red lips were wrapped around my cock.

But it's not good. I need to get over her. I can't work like this. I wouldn't be able to win a single case with her around me. I'll keep thinking about her irresistible body.
God, sex was a need in my life before I met her, but she was quickly making it a necessity.

I cleared my mind of her. I was sure she would be late to the office today, because I asked her to work on the merger case as much as she could. That would have taken her most of the night, because it was complex.
Good, I can do some work on Genna’s case till then.

As usual my secretary was not at her desk. I really should fire her for not being a help to me. "I'm going to fire her today.” I whispered as I walked in my office.

Well, well, she was sitting on my chair looking out of the window. I could see her hair scattered on the back of the chair. She was relaxing, watching the morning traffic. She must have thought that I would be late and that she was the boss for the day. The veins on my forehead popped out. I hated someone who took advantage of me. My nostrils flared up, it was her last day in my office for sure.

I stormed over to the chair quickly and spun it around. But it wasn't my fifty year old secretary; it was the sleeping beauty who made my mind crazy. It was the girl who had stolen a piece of my heart: Zoe. Her eyes were closed, hands tugged up to her chest, and hair scattered all over her sunshine covered face. An urge filled my heart to kiss her, because her lips looked so innocent, like they were waiting for me to kiss them.

I couldn't resist it; I bent my head to plant a kiss on those red, bold lips. They were calling me and I just couldn't walk away without kissing them.

"Mark, what are you doing?" Daniel called me.

I moved back in a hurry and turned around, he was standing in the door frame watching me. And with his sound, the sleeping beauty woke up. And when she saw me standing in front of her, her dreamy face vanished in a second and fear gripped her.

"Mark, it’s you." Her eyes darted around and widened when she found herself sleeping on my chair. It was amusing to watch her flicker in front of my eyes. "I'm sorry, so sorry." She got up fast and stumbled against me. I would have liked to wrap her up in my arms and catch her from falling. I pulled her up close to me, her breasts were pressed against my chest and my hands were resting on the space where her lower back met her hips. I wanted to squeeze her ass and lick her neck. I wanted to push those scattered hairs away from her face and look in those beautiful eyes and ask them what magic had they worked on me. And at the same time I was afraid that my cock would jerk up and tell her what I was thinking.

It took her a moment to realize that she was in my arms. Her eyes darted up and met mine. A shyness filled her face. Her eyes were dreamy. It was something different than what I saw in her eyes when I fucked her again and again. She was soft for me on the inside and that softness reflected in her eyes that moment.

"Zoe, are you all right?" Daniel walked up close to us and held her arm.

"She should be." I released her, though I wanted to give her a bear hug and suck those bold lips into mine.

She smoothed her dress with her hands and looked around. "I'm sorry, Mark, I was working on the merger case till five in the morning. And I thought I should see New York from your chair, and I didn't know I would fall asleep.” She was embarrassed.

"Dude, why are you making her work so late? You should give her a day off." Daniel chipped in. "Actually, you should give her today off.”

Daniel was poking his nose into my matters now. I wanted to punch him in the face. He had no right to tell me what to do.  But I couldn't show my anger to both of them.

"Yes, I'm fine with that. And I didn't ask her to work the whole night." I paused and looked in Zoe's eyes. "Anyways, you can take the day off. I'll get the Genna case documents prepared by Rachael."

"No," Zoe spoke fast. "It's nothing. I will stay and work with you. Just give me half an hour and I will be back ready to work. I apologize if I disappointed you with my behavior." She glanced in my eyes.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Happiness danced inside my heart.

"Yes, I do."

"Fine, then. Go home, and come back fresh." I smiled at her. I wanted her around me.

"Dude, you’re going to burn her out, pushing her so hard." Daniel tried to register his disapproval when Zoe left my office.

"I gave her the choice." I hunched my shoulders up in the air.

"I know. But this work is not letting her come closer to me. Why don't you leave her off for tonight? I want to go on a dinner with her." He asked.

"Not tonight, dude. Not until this case is prepared." I replied firmly.

"Then you have to promise me that no matter what, you will give her a free day after this case is done." He begged me this time. He was desperate to have her in bed.

"I'll try." I forced a smile on my face.

"Thanks, buddy." He smacked my shoulder. "And you really scared me for a few minutes when you caught her in your arms. I thought you were going to kiss her."

He actually had read my mind, I wanted to kiss her. "No I wasn't." I lied.

Chapter 10

Zoe

"What? He kissed you in the office?" Olivia almost dropped her pizza. "Wow, I didn't expect him to be so, what should I say, cocky?" She was smiling like a child now. "Tell me everything, how was it? Was it good? Was it passionate?" Olivia bombarded me with questions when I told her that Mark kissed me. I knew she would get everything out of me easily.

"It was just a kiss, nothing more. We were very close and he must have flown in with the wind."

"A minute-long kiss doesn't happen with the wind, Zoe. That means something and you know it. And trust me; every man pours his heart into his first kiss. I bet he meant something."

"It meant nothing, Olivia. It was a fluke."

"Did he say that himself?" she held my arms.

"No, he didn't. Actually I did. I thought it was a fluke, and it should be. He is my boss, and from the day I joined the office, we have only fought and nothing else. Why would he just decide to kiss me then?"

"No, Zoe, I can't believe that it was just a kiss. A kiss can only happen when there is something else going on in the kisser's mind. He must have been attracted to you or secretly adoring you−something must be there."

"It's not possible. He's just a hotshot lawyer, whom I saw for the first time at the interview. How could he know me for long?"

"Okay. But I want to meet this guy. I wanna check him out." Olivia's eye lightened with a tiny spark. She must be having some idea in her mind. If she has some idea, she would be trying it for sure.

"What do you have in mind?" I asked. I should know that first before introducing her to Mark. I can't afford losing my job because of some foolish idea of hers.

"It's nothing. I just want to meet him and see how he reacts."

"Reacts to what?" "Reacts to my flirt. I'll go haywire on him and check him out. Do you think I'm so bad that he would ditch me?" she winked at me.

There was nothing to decline in her. I was a girl and had a good figure, but Olivia was the sharpest and sexiest girl I knew. She was the dream of many boys in our college. And sometimes even I became jealous by looking at Olivia's well-maintained body. On top of that she looked like a film actress. That's why she never had any trouble finding a man at any party.

"You are perfect my dear. But no, I can't let you flirt with him. He’s my boss, and if he gets angry, he will throw me out of the firm for just introducing you. He is mean sometimes, and you don't know him. I don't want to lose my job, so please keep your dirty ideas to yourself." My dream was clear, and to achieve that I had to remain in the same law firm for a couple more years.

"Come on, I wouldn't sleep with him and then leave him like that." She was smiling mischievously at me. I knew her habit, she was a playgirl. She enjoyed men, and moreover, she used them for sex.

"No, not way, I'm not introducing you to him. And don't even think of having sex with him. Anyway, Daniel is also asking me out. And I guess, I will say yes after this case is over."

"Oh, the hottie you talked about. But I thought you would go out with Mark now as he has kissed you already, and apparently you liked it."

"Who said I liked it?"

"Come on, you won't kiss a pig for a minute. There must be something in that Mark guy that kept you from breaking the kissing spell. I bet he has some feelings for you and you are not letting me taste those feelings." She licked her lips.

"By flirting with my boss?"

"Come on, you know me, I'll take care."

"No, Olivia, we are not doing this. But I want your help in something else. I want you to hack into a database." Olivia was an excellent computer programmer. I knew her skills from the day we met, but she was good at heart and only used them to help people.

"Only if you are going to introduce me to your Mr. M."

"Mr. M?" I asked in surprise.

"I mean your boss, Mark." She giggled.

"Someday, sure." I replied back. By taking Mr. M's name, Olivia ignited a storm in my mind. I was already missing Mr. M and at the same time my mind was comparing Mark's kiss with Mr. M's kiss.

Chapter 11

Zoe

"It's a winner, Zoe." Mark looked at the paper for the fifth time this morning.

"Do you really think so?"

"Yes, with this, Genna can make millions."

"How?"

"We can settle the case out of court." He was smiling. His smile was infectious; I wanted to mix my smile with his.

"But what about the jail term? Is there any chance we can save her from that?" Money won’t be useful if she is spending time behind bars. And, I wondered, what that time in prison will do to her mind.

"If we settle this and get Smith and Johnson to drop the case, the sentence will be reduced."

"But, how would that help?" I was confused. Because the District Attorney had already brought charges against her, settling with the firm wouldn't mean that the Attorney would withdraw the charges.

"Well, once the opposing party backs out, I'll talk with the judge and try to convince him that putting this case on trial would waste his time and resources and that he would be going up against me as well." He smirked. He had the attitude, and the brains to back it up. “Can’t you avoid it all completely?" I asked.

"I wouldn't even if I had a way to do that." His eyes were firm like stone.

"And why?" I was shocked for a moment. He took her case, fought for her and now he wouldn't save her completely. That was strange.

"Because she is guilty. She knew it was insider information."

"But she got the cheat from her supervisor. She can't be held guilty for that."

"She knew, Zoe, that she was doing the wrong thing. When the shares started to increase in value, she knew what she had done. And instead of telling this all to the cops, she ran away.”

"Yes, she did run." I could see his integrity behind that hard smile. I liked it.

He smiled." Don't worry, she’ll be out in no time and very, very rich."

His smile was breathtaking, the way his lips cuddled on each other.

Fuck, I want to kiss you, Mark Peterson.

"Did you say something?" he asked, looking directly in my eyes.

"No, nothing," I smoothed my dress. "It's time. You have to meet the Smith and Johnson representative in fifteen minutes." I knew because I had scheduled it this morning.

"Why don't you talk with the representative?"

I looked at him; he was unbelievable, he was making a joke. "No, I can’t!"

"And if you make him sweat, I will take you out for a nice dinner tonight."

My mind started running around the idea. When Olivia gave me the piece of paper, she took a promise from me that I would introduce her to Mark and Daniel. She had some crazy ideas she wanted to try on them. "How about you come on a double date with me, Daniel and my roommate?" It was a long shot, but I bit the bullet.

"What, a date?" his eyes narrowed on my face.

"Yes, a date. And believe me, you will love Olivia. She is sexy and smart."

"And you will go with Daniel?" something dark ran by his eyes. I had never seen that expression there before.

"Yes, is that an issue?" I rolled my eyes.

"No issue, I just don't do dates." He said in a lonely voice.

"Just one night and you can fly out any time. Just meet my friend. She is the one who got this paper." I wanted him to come along. That way, Daniel wouldn't try to make out with me. I would have loved that when I first saw him, but now after spending so much time with Mr. M, making out with anyone but him seemed like a terrible idea.

Please save me, Mark.

"Are you sure about this? Daniel wouldn't like my company, and he has been trying to take you out since you first started here.” He looked disturbed.

"No, it wouldn't be a problem. Trust me; Olivia is much better company than I am. And she would keep the date alive for all four of us." Olivia was the party girl. I knew Mark would be going home with her tonight. No one could resist her charm. Mark wouldn't be an exception, but then his kiss, his full lips. Olivia will claim them as her own, and she might even fall in love with him.

Fuck, what am I thinking? It's just one date.

"Okay, but only if you nail this representative.” He smiled, forcefully.

"I will, just watch me." I collected all my confidence. I didn't know what I was going to do when the representative came.

"Hello, Mr. Peterson." A man in gray jacket extended his hand to Mark.

"And you are?" Mark cocked his bow.

"I'm Tyson from Smith and Johnson. Your assistant called me this morning."

"I'm not his assistant, Mr. Tyson. I'm Zoe.

"What?" His face turned red.

"Yes, I'm your nightmare from now on. Daily you will receive one trade of your firm which is suspicious with the Yellow Cheats your client gives to those innocent people."

"What are you talking about?" his face color changed again, now it was different than red, something darker.

"I know each and every trade your firm performed which was not a genuine one, AMC Pharmaceuticals, October 2013 Oct; GDP Technologies, November 2013;NorcoRealties, December 2013. Oh, sorry shall I talk about the ones in 2014 or 2015?"

"You can't know all this. This is confidential information. And you don't have any proof." His face color was completely washed out now.

"Do you know what the US Government will do once they get this information?" I handed him the paper I gave to Mark.

He read it for a moment. Now his face was twisting in horror and I was enjoying every second of it.

"No, you can't have this. This is from the mainframe and no one has access to these documents."

"I'll mail the complete file to the District Attorney, if you don't settle Genna's case by tonight."

"No you can't do this."

"Ten million dollars to Genna and fifteen million into the Child Help Fund."

"I'll make it twenty. But I want you to sign on this paper." His tone was completely changed.

Mark read that document for a moment. "So this says that you won't open up about this information in front of any one, Miss Zoe Nightmare."

"Is that your real name?" Mr. Tyson asked me.

"Yes, it is. Shall we, Mark?" I didn't know what I should be doing.

"Sign it, it's good." Mark winked at me.

I signed the document and we walked out of there.

"You won, and I liked the way you took the money for the Child Help Fund."

"Yay, I won. And I think I asked for even less money. He would have given up fifty million.” I bit my lower lip.

"His company won't have that money left, when I email this file to the District Attorney."

"But we signed the document."

"Yes, you did. But your friend didn't. And she can accidentally mail that file to the attorney." Mark was smiling like a winner now. "I hate dirty stock brokers. I hate these bastards." I watched him speak about his true feelings. He was a good man, a good man inside the mean outer shell.

"I'll see you tonight then." I waved good bye. I was feeling great, because I just won a settlement for Genna and I got to get Mark on a double date.

I dialed Olivia.

"Oli, be ready for a double date. We are going out with Mark and Daniel tonight."

"Wow, I'll be ready with my sexiest dress," she shouted from the other end.

***

Olivia was right; she wore the sexiest dress she had for that night. Her blue party gown was showing half of her boobs and the dress enhanced her perfect figure. If I were Mark or Daniel, I would have fucked her the moment I met her.

"You look amazing, Zoe. I guess Daniel is going to have some good play tonight."

"No way. He is not. But seems that Mark could get some." I rolled my eyes over her dress.

"If he is the gentleman you say, he just might." She giggled.

"Here they come." I waved my hand to Mark, getting out of a Porsche.

"Wow, he owns a Porsche? Awesome." Olivia was gazing at the red beauty.

"Hello, ladies." Mark walked in front of us and Daniel followed him.

"It's you, you bastard, Mike." Olivia shouted from her lungs. I never saw her so angry. She walked to Mark and slapped him across the face.

Mark looked at her with wounded eyes.

"Let's go Zoe, I can't stand to be around him for a second."

"But Oli."

"Zoe, if you are my friend, walk away from here. Or I'm going alone." She started walking away from there.

I glanced at Mark, he was looking away, hurt and still.

I ran towards Olivia, I had no other choice.
