Dear Daddy,

I got your letter from London with the money in it. Thank you very much for the 2/6. I got your letter from Evesham to day too and I thought you would already have known that I’ve got the measles as I wrote to London about it while you were there. Anyway I will not be able to go home for Witsun week as I must not get in a crowd for 3 weeks. All my spots have gone and I most likely getting up (out of bed) tomorrow. If I do go home I shall have to go when the 3 weeks are over which will mean another week away from school. But I should like to go home very much. So do your best. Has Mummy passed the B.B.C. test in Italian?

I think she ought to take German [test] as well. Write and tell me if I will be able to go home after my measles are gone.

How are you getting on? By the way I want to go home too because I am supposed to get a new suit.

Dear Daddy,

I got your letter this morning and I am pleased that you have got a new and better billet.

I got a letter from mummy on Monday and she said that Tiggy has got another three kittens. I hope she keeps the nicest one. Please do not worry about my illness. I am not in bed any more and all my spots are gone. Only the three weeks quarenteen keep me from school. I will be going to London next Wednesday or Thursday. I shall know for shure on Monday. I have already been outside.

I am not shure wether you live at 10 or 19 Broadway Road please write it clearly. I hope mummy passed the exam although I am shure she will. I think she ought to try German as well as Italian. How are you getting on? I am quite well but I am lonely as I must not go near anyone so I can’t go out to do anything

Dear Daddy,

I arrived in Melksham safely on Sunday and after tea I went swimming. I got my new suit this morning and it fits very well.

I hope you are getting on alright with your work. I am very well.

The weather is very nice and I am going swimming again to-day. Please write soon.

I am a bit behind at school but I will soon catch up.

I have learned to swim under water with my eyes open and swim between anybody’s legs (under water) And to tuch the bottom with my hands in the 9 foot 6 ins.

I don’t know when we are breaking up for summer but let us hope it will soon come. I have no more news so I’ll send lots of love and millions of kisses from your everloving.

Dear Dad,

I got your letter this morning and I am answering strait away so that you will have time t[o] send the money. I am very willing to come to Evesham and if you think it is more worth for me to go to Evesham than for you to go to London, then send the money and I will book my seets. I am quickly catching up in school. It was rather hard for me to read your card this morning as the silly fools at the post office put the stamp mark right in the middle of your writing. On Sunday Mrs. Robbins is taking me to Weston Super Mare for the day where we can swim in the sea. Yesterday it was 5 years that we came to England.

I hope you are getting on all right I am very well. I got my suit on Tuestay and it fits very well and it is very nice. I hope to see you on the 5th Saturday. How is your work. I took my shoes to be nailed but they said is must be soled so will you please send money for that too (3/9) as soon as you can.

Dear Dad,

I got your letter and money yesterday and I wrote to Bath for a ticket and sent them the 4/-. They should have got that to-day so I hope to get the ticket by Friday.

I am afraid that this time I shall have to come back on Sunday as I have missed 3 weeks of school and the teacher will only be full of sarcasm if I am not at school. Why didn’t you send me some money to get my shoes done? Unless I can get them out without paying straight away I shall have to come in my plimsoles which Mrs. Robbins gave me.

How are you getting on? I can hardly wait to see you. I hope you are getting on well in your job.

I had my new suit on Sunday and I looked very smart in it. I have no other news.

Dear Dad,

I am very sorry to say that I will not be able to come to Evesham as you did not send the money soon enough. I got a letter from Bath in which they had sent back the 4/- postal order and said that all the seets had been booked up. I should have booked up at least 3 days beforehand. I[f] you had sent the money earlier it would have been O.K. as I got the money on Wednesday which allows them to get it on Thursday which is too late.

It is a great dissappointment as I was looking forward to seing you with all my heart.

But I hope to see you soon. I will spend the 4/- on getting my shoes done. Please write and send some money for next week.

Have you had any air raids?

I have no more news.

Dear Daddy,

I got your letter on Tuesday and I was even more dissappointed that I couldn’t go to Evesham when I heard that Andrew was there. Thank you very much for the 3/-. I have bought a 6

savings stamp. I go swimming and I can dive head first ads jump off the top board. How are you getting on? I am fine and I hope to see you soon. We are breaking up for summer on the 15th of August.

Did you go swimming with Andrew? The wether is lovely & hot and I am going swimming again to-day. I have no more news. Please write soon. I hope you will enjoy yourself in London.

Dearest Dad,

I gladly received your letter this afternoon after a long expectant week, as I have not had a letter from you for over a week. You wanted to know how school is. On Wednesday we had a little test of shorthand and I came top with full marks. I was inoculated to day by the school against diphtheria. Thank you for the money.

I know now for sure that we are breaking up for the summer holydays on the 15th of August to return on the 8th of September (3 weeks). Please send the money for the fares to go home as soon as possible so that I can book up and make sure of getting a seat.

I have not been swimming lately as the weather has not been so good. I am very well and I hope you are. I will most likely get another 6

savings samp as I have only 2/6 in the saving. I hope to see you in just over 4 weeks time.
