Elven Magic

Tinkering in the Elven Forest

From time to time the Elven Witch Ellen will contact Mitchell through the crystal suspended in her tower and once in contact will then speak to him using the most powerful magic in Elven history. Ellen, always Meddling in the small elven communities affairs, will often take the Magical item she created (to speak to Mitchell), imbued with the same magic as the crystal, but only a smaller version, to Fae, who is sitting on the grass eating berries in the Elven fields where she sits with her friends and fellow elves.

Sometimes Fae will speak to Mitchell depending on whether she can summon up the energy to do so because it’s difficult to speak to him knowing very little English because Elves mostly just know how to speak elvish and there’s very little learning among them except to learn about the forest, ever since the Elven Elders decided to separate ties with the humans and their machines many years ago using extremely powerful magic to find the new Elven Lands they now dwell in, they also decided there was no need for magic, although some of them had different ideas about that namely Ellen and Fae.

Even though the elves new found home lands were made through magic the Elven Leaders still forbid the use of magic in their day to day activities. Most, if not all of them are very lazy with that rule and try to use magic discreetly and in small unnoticeable ways. It’s only when they get caught that they get punished and then very quickly return to using magic, although the Elves would tease Fae for being in contact with a human, they are secretly jealous of her for being able to practice magic to the extent she does with Ellen.

Although the Elves know very little magic only enough to make little things levitate and small time spells and pieces of their ancient language long forgotten except for the fact that Fae and Ellen can still utter most of them because the Elders decided that leaving magic behind completely could have inconceivable effects on their entire community and even their race as a whole.

Now Ellen really doesn’t go out of her tower of power very often and leaves gathering of ingredients for her many concoctions up to Fae and her Elven friends or acquaintances. They are always trying to find out about things and learn as much magic from Fae as Elvenly possible, to help make their lives that little bit easier.

Even though Fae would never admit it, she does sometimes need the other Elves help with gathering ingredients and getting out of trouble she gets herself into. Although she is smart and knows a lot of magic she is a mischievous elf which is not surprising after all she does talk too much.

“Look Fae, here comes Ellen.” said Kyle.

“Hello Fae, how have you been, have you been avoiding me lately?” said Ellen.

“No, not avoiding you. I have a better understanding of why Mitchell just says very little to me, I think he’s avoiding me, the others explained to me that we aren’t exactly the same as humans and now I know how I would respond to an Elf that can talk to me to some extent.”

“Yes Fae, I know the translation is a lot to be desired but the machines were created by humans and elves and whoever knows what else, many moons ago.”

“I will only say “Hi” today and that will have to be enough.” said Fae.

“Or maybe you’ve said too much.” said Kyle, in a cheeky tone.

“That’s good I need you to go and gather these ingredients for me,” said Ellen.

Ellen hands Fae the ingredient list.

“Can we go and check out the old machines after we find them all?” said Fae.

“Yes, I Suppose So. But don’t let the Elders see you scavenging about there, I will get the blame.”

Ellen fades off into the distance and Kyle waits patiently to make his remark.

“She said it, she will get the blame,”

“Yes, but we don’t go out and intentionally get caught, do we?” said Fae, glaring at Kyle.

With that Kyle and Fae and the others go out and collect the ingredients, Ellen doesn’t tell Fae what the ingredients are for or any of the finer details and won’t until she returns with them. She figures what you don’t know won’t hurt you, and if she doesn’t know then the other elves won’t pester her to give up more information then she would normally. Fae knows that if Ellen gets caught then so too does Fae and the Elders although they don’t use magic to lead by example, they do use one of the most ancient spells known to Elves and that is Shackle’s.

When Fae gets into trouble she finds herself in a room by herself with icy shackles and no way to even move let alone free herself, and she doesn’t look kindly at anyone who puts her there.

Now they find themselves at the half human and half elven machine which nobody knows what it’s called exactly. Well that would be by design because of what it does.

Although it’s a machine it’s more magical then a machine and contains all manner of incantations on it.

It looks like a spinning sphere and has two rock monsters known formally as Golems to the Elves. It’s as large as the building that contains it which is the only human part about it, basically.

The Golems are mostly all there is to the machine that would draw anyone’s attention. It’s not so much just the Golems themselves but the lightning that surrounds them, and all the small transmitters scattered around the sphere. The building has a door on the outside and is locked by some sort of very powerful magic much more powerful than Ellen too. It also has a window with iron bars which the Elves always find a way to peer through and wonder how they are ever going to get into the building.

“Kyle, Get down from there!”, said Kerspar Myrth’ghymn.

“What are you doing? Firstly using forbidden magic to levitate and secondly being on a sacred and forbidden burial site?” said Baelmus Baequi’ghymn.

“Oh Oh,” Said Kyle

“I’m in trouble now,” said Fae and Kyle drops to the floor from the Levitate spell failing.

The Elven Elders always threaten with burial site in some way because the young Elves don’t really understand death very well being immortal, so they are not sure if there’s even any elves buried there.

Although Fae wasn’t totally responsible for the day’s events she does get the blame as always and gets punished accordingly. They did use magic and whenever there’s magic involved and misbehaving then the magic wielder gets in trouble.

Fae bides her time and thinking about the fact that she needs to go back to the Witch Leigh’s Cottage and intends to go back to Ellen’s Tower and using her powerful portal spell return to Human Lands on Earth.

Now that Fae has been to the Human Lands of Earth previously she can now return there whenever she wants with the combination of the portal spell and thinking about the place she has been to before.

Fae appears in the Grove near Leigh’s Cottage and goes to the cottage not knowing exactly how she will get inside although Fae has a good eye for secret doorways and expects there to be one into a Witch’s House knowing she has all the time in the world now after the Witch’s demise.

One of the bricks on the cottage appears loose and even though it’s doesn’t turn out to be a secret passage it does contain a key to the front door and Fae quickly grabs the oddly shaped key and uses it on the door.

Fae enters the cottage and tries very hard not to disturb anything except the things she might find useful for finding out what spells Leigh has cast on Mitchell through her quaint crystal ball sitting on the table.

An apparition of Leigh appears in the room but doesn’t seem to be able to cause any problems for Fae who is now going through Leighs things. Some believe that a Witch, although not always evil, would still walk the earth as an apparition or ghost in purgatory. Although Leigh was not really an evil Witch she did do some evil things. Most Witches would seldom believe they’ve done any wrong at all.

“I wish you wouldn’t stand there and stare at what I’m doing, you know I’m not going to feel bad about it.” said Fae to Leigh the Apparition.

Fae quickly gathers up the former Witches scribbling’s and packs them away in her backpack that she usually uses for gathering of ingredients for Ellen.

Fae leaves the Cottage exactly as she found it being careful to put the key back behind the brick as she leaves.

Fae knows she must act quickly because even though there is no real time requirement on Elven Lands there is constraints on Earth and Fae must get back to the portal quickly before the spell wears off.

Elven Magic

Mitchell’s Visions

The First Vision is of an elf who practices magic under the council of a Witch who would have her become an apprentice. The elf Fae first contacts Mitchell through a Magical Crystal Suspended in the top of a Tower firstly she can only talk to Mitchell then she appears but only as a transparent Image of herself and all Mitchell can see is everything around him in broad daylight on his walk to the shops on a brick footpath.

In his mind he can see her surroundings which is a moon in an open tower surrounded by darkness and a mirror image of her, somehow he felt her deep feelings for him and then her glimmering wings flapped which is all he could really see of her and she slowly floated off the ground.

The spell book is now scattered throughout the Earthen Lands and Mitchell has grown. He has many years of experience in his field of Archaeology.

His Visions lead him to many different places in the world in search of the spell book pieces. One of the places is a small Viking Settlement in a dingy little town where Mitchell meets an old man named Morgan.

Morgan was a blacksmith in his earlier years and still remembers some of the strange things that happened the night Fae appeared to him because even though he is now very old he still has a clear memory and his mind still works well.

What Mitchell’s vision showed him was old ancient ruins so even though this was many years ago when Mitchell was only twelve years old he could still remember it clearly as the day he saw it, in broad daylight and with his eyes wide open. The vision was transparent and almost like it was really there but he knew it wasn’t now.

“I think we will need to go to the ancient ruins are you able to accompany me to them?” said Mitchell.

“I will be able to show you the way.” replies Morgan.

They both have dinner and retire to bed so they are ready for an early start the next morning.

The night is a very strange one indeed with lightning and storms that last halfway into the next morning.

They awake, quickly get ready and take what supplies they need to go out to the ancient ruins. Mitchell has waited all this time and may be thinking, too soon, that it will all be over and he will find the spell book in one piece.

They search the ruins and find an old tattered scroll which resembles an old foreign language and Mitchell returns to the companies base of operation at the embassy. As with most Archaeological digs and searches they are heavily funded by the government and he must report what he finds.

Now with what Mitchell now realises is only one small piece of the puzzle in finding the lost spell book and the not knowing is what really bothers him, of whether or not he will have another vision, if ever.

Mitchell has another vision the night before they are due to leave almost like clockwork. He sees a cement wall with two chains on it and he pulls them and a door opens on the wall. In his vision, when he looks over his shoulder behind him he sees a large cathedral and a beautiful landscape behind him, the vision is so vivid and colourful.

He turns back only to see Lepers peering back at him, he turns around and walks away.

The company decides to research this information and find out where on earth it could be located.

Mitchell receives a telegram from a messenger and quickly packs up his belongings and finds his way to the Cathedral located in Germany.

When Mitchell arrives at the airport a few nuns from the cathedral are waiting to greet him.

“Hello, Mitchell. I have been awaiting your arrival. Welcome to Germany.” Sister Sue greets Mitchell.

“Thanks sister.” Replies Mitchell.

“We have the sisters at the Cathedral preparing dinner now; it will be ready for our arrival.” Sister Jill has a deep voice and Mitchell just smiles back at her.

The trip back to the Cathedral is long and perilous due to it being at the top of a large cliff but they all finally arrive in the nun’s old Volvo station wagon.

The next day Mitchell and his crew find their way to the local areas below the Cathedral which isn’t very far from it, they all search for the wall not knowing if it’s easily found or hidden. Mitchell finds the wall and opens the door exactly like in his vision by pulling on the two chains protruding from it.

Mitchell enters the small room and picks up the second set of scrolls or pages which he then puts in his knapsack, although he cannot see any lepers like in his vision.

They all are very tired after the day of searching the meadows and fields below the Cathedral and when they decide to retire they find their way back up the windy cliff path back to the top.

When they arrive they all quickly scoff down their meals after a long day and then retire again because they must then return to the embassy tomorrow and report what they have found.

That very night Mitchell finds it hard to sleep even though he is very tired due to voices of what sounds like an Asian lady in war torn Iraq who is helping the soldiers there by leading them between churches through tunnels hidden in the back areas of each. Mitchell sees broken bricks and rubble from the effects of war and also can hear it switch between different soldiers some in the desert and others in the churches.

He can see a town square with a large hole in the middle and a cement truck and they are putting something into the hole, although he can speak to them as always when he does he gets a reply but he finds it easier to just listen to what they say although he does decide to say he can sense something’s hidden under the pools possibly in the back yard. He is not sure if they can even hear him or what it even means but he says it anyway.

Mitchell also sees the woman in the street with some sort of power where she holds up her hand and pictures grabbing their brain and somehow takes control of people using some kind of mind control where she would also go insane and say psychopathic things out loud while she has them under her control. This reminded Mitchell of the Witch he could constantly hear all those years ago.

He can hear conversations between the woman and the soldiers and can also hear them talk of weather the way is clear.

Then Mitchell can see a Mirage in the middle of the desert and many people in a caravan with many camels walking toward this cityscape in the middle of the desert.

Then what appears to be the woman walk into a cave and she walks through a portal with many bald men surrounding her and they all one by one walk through the misty fog on the ground and then come to the black portal and walk though it and walk down path on the other side, they walk though it to a large room where the room rotates around on what appears to be train tracks and all around the room is a gold trim and many hieroglyphics and still the same dirt and fog on the ground in the room, the woman in a dark black cloak with gold trim much like that of room she stands in, walks into the centre and the others walk in single file and gather around her, she then raises her hands and suddenly the whole room falls under her control.

Mitchell then hears what sounds like the graveyard coming to life where he can hear the clickety clack of their bones and can see some sort of magic light at their feet connecting them all together. He heard little fragments of the conversations about him and also one pulling rank and one of the undead giving what seems like orders to the others they also speak of what he has found during the day. He gets the feeling there running toward him although he can only hear them in his mind and they never arrive.

Mitchell can tell from this that this is where the search will take him next. He is not sure if these visions are connected or if they are more than one, maybe he will find out, he eventually goes to sleep.

The next day Mitchell receives another telegram telling him and his crew that they must all make their way to Iraq because Mitchell and the organisation he works for is unable to locate any information about where the place he has visualised in the section of his vision about Egypt he had the day before actually is and they all get on the next flight out of Germany to Iraq.

Mitchell and his crew arrive at Iraq in the Middle East. They all find their way to the Asian woman who lives in the house adjoining the church.

“Hello, Mitchell.” The Asian Woman turns her head while kneeling before a statue of Mary.

“Make yourself at home we will make our way through the tunnels to where we are keeping the book later.” said Kim.

Mitchell then finds his way through the various churches and finds his way to the book and retrieves it. He then leaves Iraq as quickly as he entered. The company had arranged it quite well because of the war going on it wasn’t wise for him to stay long.

When they return back to their base of operations they arrange with the local courthouse to have the spell book kept in their keepsakes store once it is rebound and repaired it is put on display.
