Soon I entered into some kind of room where only one lamp was fighting against the dark, but it did a really poor job. It was like the moon during the night; shining but not giving a chance to see anything.

I noticed that something was moving in the shadows. Also, I heard steps and then...something hit me very hard on the head.

Melody

“I won't touch your little sister if you tell that Mr. Caspar Offman tried to hurt you,” I hear Marcus's voice in my head over and over again.

I wanted to open my mouth and tell him not to come close to my sister and that I won't say anything what was lie. But I couldn't move my lips, my arms, my feet, but I could hear his words, feel his warm skin against mine when he was pulling me closer to his pounding heart.

“I am sorry, my angel, but this time isn't that time when I take you with me forever,” he kissed my forehead. It felt so good to feel his lips and know that he won't kidnap me. But there was another question, could I believe him?

Soon I felt how he was putting me on the cold ground. I wanted to tell him that I would rather stay in his arms. I couldn't explain to myself why it was better to let him had his arms around me than just be away from him.

“But I promise, soon you will be with me.”

And then I heard steps. He was leaving me. Panicked started building in me. I wanted to scream. I didn't want to be left alone, especially when I was in this stage...

What had he given me? How long would I be like this? I didn't want to think that maybe the next two years I would be lying on the bed without any possibility to move or speak. I didn't want that destiny.

Į tried to open my eyes,
but my eyelids seemed to weight tones. Then I tried to move my hands, legs...nothing. I couldn't do anything and that only let my panic grown in me, giving me a chance to imagine terrible things which made my blood cold in my veins. I was really afraid because the devil could have done anything with me,

I could hear music behind the walls. The ball was continuing, people were dancing and talking. I wondered if anyone had missed me? Merdian. He had to noticed that I wasn't with him. He had to be worried about me.

Yes, he will find me. He will save me from the devil.

After some minutes the door opened and I felt how the rock was removed from my poor heart. Someone would find me and try to help me.

But the person, who opened the door, didn't hurry to get inside and when he did, I heard really interesting sound. Like someone was dragging something heavy on the ground. That was a clear sign to me that I wasn't my rescue team. It was something else, something what spread evil around himself.

I tried to move my body again, but nothing happened; I was still lying on the ground, hearing how something bad was hauling something closer to me. And then he stop, dropped whatever he was holding, on the ground.

“He is heavy,” I heard Marcus voice. Yes, it was something evil, something dark.

Marcus shifted and came closer to me. He knelt next to me, his hand soon found its way to me cheek. I could feel his warm skin on me which, for my surprise, only made my heart beat quicker, some strange and sick butterflies started beating their colorful wings. I knew that I shouldn't feel like this when he touches me, but I was and that only made me confused and scared.

“You are so beautiful, my angel,” he leaned closer to me and whisper those words to me ear, only forcing my heart to beat even more quicker if that was even possible. “But I will have to wait, unfortunately,” he put his warm lips on my forehead and then let them to touch my lips. I found myself wanting to be able to return his kiss. What was he doing with me?

“You are so beautiful,” he repeated and slowly pulled away from me. I felt abandon and naked suddenly. He was like my clothes, making me warm, and without him, was cold and empty.

He stood up and walked around me, closer to the thing he had brought with himself. I didn't know and I couldn't see what was he doing, but I didn't expect anything good. Marcus was up to something.

“I will be soon with you, my angel,” he said and left the room.

I was again alone. But was I really?

The thing, which Marcus decided to leave with me, was...breathing. Yes, it was breathing. Was that human? Angel? Or maybe animal? Why did Marcus bring him here?

All those questions let me forget where I was and that in what condition Marcus had put me in. Also, they stole my time.

The door opened again and this time not one, but many people came inside, bringing loud voices with them. One of them I could recognize; Merdian. He made a bolt for me. Soon I was in his arms, my cheek against his chest where pounding heart lived.

“Melody,” he whispered into my hair. “Please, wake up,” he begged and the God knew how much I wanted to open my eyes, but I just couldn't force my body to listen to me. Not yet.

“Sir, look,” it was Marcus voice in that bustle. I was sure about that. I tried to understand what he was doing here, with angels, but I just couldn't create a convincing answer.

Merdian lifted his face from my hair and in my mind I imagined him looked at where Marcus was pointing. And judging by how his arms only press me harder against his body, it was what Merdian liked.

“What is that?” it was Mr. Patrick Spring's voice which echoed in the room.

“It is...sir...” Marcus sounded astonished for some reason. I really couldn't understand what was he doing. “Some kind of liquid,” he said finally and I heard how he leaned closer to the thing he had had left me with.

“Show me that,” Patrick said in sternly voice.

I imagined Marcus doing exactly what the angel wanted from him, because soon I heard how Patrick ordered his men to check what kind of thing he was holding in his hands.

“Melody,” Merdian said my name in trembling voice.

“Son, take her to the room. Doctors will soon come,” Patrick said softly and that really surprised me.

Without any hesitation or extra word, he lifted me up and took out from the room. In my mind I started laughing, because maybe Marcus wasn't so evil after all. This celebration was held only to announce everyone about me being Merdian's fiance, and now that won't happen.

Or?

Merdian put me on the bed, taking at seat next to me. His fingers gently touching my face, not letting me to forget that there was a person with me who loved me.

I felt how my muscles started … to obey. Soon I could lift my hands, legs and what was more important, I could open my eyes again. That was what I did without wasting another second.

“Melody,” Merdian said softly when he noticed me awaked.

“Merdian,” I said a little confused.

“Everything will be okay. You are safe,” his lips touched my forehead.

“What happened?” I decided to pretend to be a stupid person.

“I don't know really. Maybe you can tell me?”

The door into my room opened and two men/angels entered into the room. They eyes settled at Merdian, and only then on me.

Merdian nodded, giving them permission to come closer to me and look what was wrong with me.

The men approached me and without any hesitation started to study me. One of them threw out a syringe and took my red blood. I didn't even notice that one of them had his suitcase with him from which soon many things were pulled out.

I closed my eyes. I didn't want to see what they wanted to do with me. I started hating doctor and all those devices they had with them.

“I am here. I won't go anywhere,” Merdian whispered into my ear.

After ten minutes everything was done and the angels asked Merdian to go with him that they could tell him about my condition. I was about to open my mouth and tell them that they didn't need to go anywhere. They could just talk here, in my presence.

My soon I closed my mouth and let them leave me for some minutes alone. Merdian wasn't in mood to let me alone for long. Soon he was back with me. A sad smile was on his face.

“I will kill him,” he said finally.

I put my body into a sitting position and looked at him with puzzled stare.

“What?” I asked.

“That Offman. He gave you something,” Merdian pulled me against his chest. “We found him with you in the room. He was holding syringe with drugs in it. Luckily, Marcus found you.”

“What?”

But Merdian didn't say anything, because someone knocked at the door and entered inside. My blood became cold in my body seeing Marcus. He approached my bed with predatory grace. His eyes were at me and Merdian, who suddenly let me go and stood up.

“Sir,” Marcus lowered his head a bit,” My man put Mr. Offman in the basement. The guest didn't notice anything, although they are wondering when will you come with Miss Watts down,” Marcus said in formal tone, his hands behind his back.

I was gaping at him. I didn't understand what was going here. Why was Marcus here, standing in my room like he was my and Merdian's friend.

“Thank you, Marcus. I appreciate your help.”

“Who is he?” I asked, turning my face at Merdian.

“I am Marcus Le Noir, Miss. I am the royal family's body-guard. That means that I am assigned to be also and yours,” he informed me.

“Yes, Melody,” Merdian said. “Marcus Le Noir is an angel and his job is to protect us...or you. My father hired him to be your body-guard. His friends told him about Marcus and he decided to make him your protector.”

I didn't know what to do: laugh or cry. They all thought that Marcus was an angel and what was worst, they wanted him to be my protector when he was the one who was stalking me, making my life miserable. That was really hilarious.

My fingers dig into Merdian's hand. No. that couldn't be real. I was just dreaming and...And what had Caspar done? Or maybe I should ask what Marcus did to him.

“Marcus,” I said in a small voice.

He grinned and lowered his head a bit down.

“Yes, Miss. So, sir, will you come down?”

Merdian didn't hurry to nod or shake his head. He looked at me first, asking if I was feeling better and was I able to do what I needed to do.

I nodded, although I would really love to end this day and just take a long sleep, but I knew that there was one thing which I had to do and not even the devil could stop me from it.

“I feel better,” I said and tried to stand up. Merdian, of course, helped me a bit.

In the corner of my eye I saw how Marcus tried to control his emotions on his face when Merdian planted a soft kiss on my cheek and then on my lips. Merdian didn't notice his face, because when he turned at Marcus, on his face was a mask.

“Come,” Merdian said and we both moved to the door. Marcus walked after us.

Although I couldn't see him, I felt his eyes on me, making me to feel strange and mixed vibes, spreading in my body. Was confused, because part of me really liked that while another part was nagging me and telling that I should enjoy Marcus's attention.

What was he doing with me?

The ball was still continuing. No one noticed anything or they just simply didn't care. My eyes noticed Caspar's friend who was looking around. Maybe she was searching for Caspar.

“It had to be our night,” Merdian whispered to me as we walked forward.

I put my head on his shoulder and just simply sighed. Yes, this night had to be special and it was going to be, because I would take a ring from him, tell everyone that I wanted to be Merdian's forever.

Patrick soon sprung in front of us. He seemed angry, although he tried not to show everyone his feelings. After all, it wasn't time and place for that.

“Marcus,” he said in a cold tone.

“Yes, sir,” he took some steps closer to the angel king.

“Make sure that there wouldn't be anything else what wasn't planned.”

Marcus nodded and taking a last glance at me, walked away from me. It was strange how no one noticed hos confident he was and that he wasn't even an angel.

“It's time,” some kind of woman approached us, holding a some kind of device in her hand. “Are you ready, sir?” she asked, looking straight at Merdian who nodded. “Great,” the woman said quickly something her device and the some light turns off. “Mr. Offman,” she looked at Patrick.

He put a tiny smile on his face and walked to staircase which would be our stage.

“My lovely guests,” Patrick said loudly. Everyone turned to look at him. “I am really happy to see you all here. This night is really special for my family, not only because Melody finally is with us, but because...” he lifted his hand to Merdian.

“Come,” Merdian whispered and we both moved closer to Patrick.

This is time and no one can take it from me, I said in my mind.

“Yes, not only because you are with us,” Merdian said and took out a ring which once was on my finger, but after the accident...he took it and kept with him. He promised me to give it back when I open my eyes. “Melody, I want you to be my life, my friend and my wife,” he said out loud that everyone could hear his words, but his eyes were looking only at me, while mine tried to steal some glances at the crown in which was Marcus.

“Yes,” I said without missing a beat. “I want to be your wife,” I put a huge smile on my face and destroy the distance between us in order to give him one long and demanding kiss.

People started clapping. Even Marcus joined the crowd, although I saw in his eyes anger and disgust. He wasn't happy with what he was forced to see. To be honest, I wasn't pleased to know that he was in this room, in this house. What was he up to?

“I love you, Melody,” Merdian said, touching my face with his fingers. The ring found its place on my finger. It was so awesome to have it with me again. It was like returning home after a long travel.

“I love you too,” I whispered.

One step was done and another was about to come; the wedding. Soon I would be wearing a white dress and calling myself Melody Spring.

I won't let Marcus ruin that, but that devilish smile on his face told me that he knew what I was thinking and that he accepted my challenge.

Game on.
