Chapter One

“Fuck!” I jerked the wheel to avoid the deer bounding across the mountain road. Then it got really fun when the little Honda Civic slid on the winding mountain road.

My dad’s voice whispered in my mind.
Turn into the skid, Becca.

Thankfully, I regained control a split second after I turned the wheel.
Thanks, Dad.

Even five years after his death he was still saving my ass. My visibility was getting worse by the moment, as the light snow wasn’t so light anymore. I forced myself to ease off the gas in spite of the need to fly through the mountain roads. If I wasn’t careful I was going to do the messy job for David and save him the work of having to cover up my murder.

Only I would wind up in this kind of mess. I should’ve known that a handsome cop flirting with me was too good to be true. My own mother had called me fluffy for God’s sake. Why had I ever thought that he had been worth the risk?

Because his ass was that damned bitable, that’s why!
My late grandmother would be thrilled to know that her predictions of my lustful thoughts leading me to hell were coming true.

The car slid again, and my heart raced as I had to regain control again.
Dammit, Becca, concentrate or you’ll never make it to the cabin!

I sighed in relief when a familiar cabin came into sight. It wasn’t my grandfather’s but at least I knew that I was on the right road. I had been worried since I hadn’t been up here in eight years, not since it had been sold after my grandfather’s death to help finance Grandma’s moving into a top of the line retirement community. I had understood but it had broken my heart nonetheless. Some of the happiest times of my life had been spent here during the summer.

But it was winter now and I was lucky the snow wasn’t that heavy yet. However, as soon as that thought crossed my mind—
Fuck! I spoke too soon!
The flakes were coming down faster and starting to resemble fluffy white clouds.
I was torn between slowing down to a crawl or continuing at my current speed and reaching the cabin before the road got much worse.

Then the decision was taken out of my hands when another deer jumped in front of me as it burst through the trees. It looked terrified and out of the corner of my eye I saw the silver fur of a—something.
Holy shit, is that a wolf?
But
that was the least of my problems as I realized I couldn’t avoid a collision. Still, I jerked the wheel anyway.

I clipped the deer’s hindquarters and luckily sent it flying off the road instead of it landing on the hood of my car, but there was no time to thank anyone for small favors as the car slid again. This time I couldn’t regain control before going off the road.

Everything after that moment passed in a blur of pain and fear as the car rolled several times. The seatbelt held me in place but my head hit the driver’s window hard and I didn’t even have time to curse fate before everything went dark.

* * * *

The faint sound of voices teased my ears as I started to wake. One was deep and husky, the other smooth with a hint of whiskey to it. Slowly, my eyes blinked open. Everything was slightly fuzzy. The warm, wood paneled walls and the darker stained shaker style dresser directly in my line of sight looked good against the warm cream of the walls even if they weren’t quite in focus.

But most hazy of all were my thoughts.

I vaguely remembered the accident and the short blast of terror. What followed after that was a confusing blend of images, like slightly out of focus pictures. Impressions of gray fur, a cold nose and wet tongue as something softly whined. I had the nebulous memory of strong arms and gentle hands carefully lifting me.

The warmth of a broad chest.

The soft glow of a small lamp on the nightstand was the only light on in the room.
Where was I?
Obviously, someone had found me and given some kind of first aid. I carefully took stock of my injuries only to realize there were none. Not even a bump on my head.

Then I flushed as I realized I was naked under the quaint wedding ring quilt done in cream and navy blues. God, somebody had undressed me. When I shifted my legs they brushed against each other and I winced at the scratchiness.

I hoped whoever had taken my clothes off wasn’t offended by stubble.

I sat with my back pressed against a hard, muscled body, whimpering as I rubbed my ass against the hot, aroused cock resting between my cheeks. Tender lips nibbled on my neck as a husky voice whispered erotic things in my ear. Strong arms hooked under my knees and spread me open for the mouth licking its way up the inside of my thigh.

A shudder racked my body as I felt myself grow wet.
What in the hell was that?
Nervously I tried to answer my own question. A wet dream…I must have had one hell of a wet dream.

A knock sounded at the door and I clutched the quilt to me as I sat up. The door opened before I had figured out what to say. Still tongue tied, I watched as a man wearing a soft gray Henley and worn black jeans stepped through the doorway.

He was a little above average height, probably around six feet. His black hair was tied away from the golden skin of his face. With his large amber eyes, sculpted cheekbones, and full lips, he was a work of art. His chin even had a faint dent in it.

Hell, he had seen me naked?
I felt every inch and pound that put me in a size fourteen scream in horror.

“Oh, you’re awake!” His soft lips curved if a gentle smile. “How are you feeling, Sweetness?”

My pussy clenched around the fingers sliding into me as I keened.

“That’s it, Sweetness, come for me.”

My eyes widened as I tried to shake off the dream and speak.
What the hell was that?

His eyes darkened with concern. “Hey, I know you’re confused, but I swear you’re safe.” His voice was the smooth one I had heard on awaking. “I’m Samuel. My friend, Alec, found your car. We couldn’t get any signal because of the storm so we brought you here.”

I finally managed a nervous whisper as my fingers tightened on the quilt. “Thank you. I’m Becca.”

Samuel walked to me then knelt by the bed. “We got your bag out of the car, but it had ripped. Your stuff was wet, and we washed what we could. Unfortunately, the power went out before they finished in the dryer. We rigged a clothesline in front of the fireplace and hopefully something will be dry soon.”

The power’s out?
I looked at the lamp suspiciously then slid my gaze back to him.

Samuel grinned. “We have a generator going, but we need to conserve the fuel in case it’s a long time before we get the power back. The dryer is electric so it drains too much power.” He patted my lower leg, sending a sharp tingle through me. “Alec left the light on so you wouldn’t wake in a strange, dark room.”

Their thoughtfulness had me wincing.
Good job. Two guys save my life, and I act as if they’re creepers
. “I’m sorry.”

Samuel shook his head. “Don’t be. You have every reason to be wary.” He hesitated a moment, then asked, “Can I call Alec in here? He’s been worried about you, too.”

I shrugged. “Sure. I need to thank him, too.” I couldn’t help but watch Samuel’s ass as he walked back to the door. Tight and round.
Jesus!
And I thought David had had a fine butt? Clearly I’d had low standards before seeing Samuel’s.

“Alec! She’s awake!”

He came back to the bed and sat on the floor.

A shocked
eep
escaped me when the man I assumed was Alec walked into the room. He was huge, as in if an NBA star and an NFL linebacker had a love child. He had on a cream sweater and blue jeans with roughly handsome features and nicely shaped lips. His thick, wavy silver and black hair trailed his shoulders. He looked about thirty so I guessed his beautiful hair was a gift from God. Damn, he was intimidating as hell until he flashed a grin at me. Dimples, he had a perfect set of them. My own personal kryptonite.

After a good ass, of course.

And broad shoulders.

I resisted the overwhelming urge to check his jeans for a bulge. My hormones might short circuit if either one them looked to be particularly blessed in that department.

Alec’s black eyes gleamed as he gave me a wide smile. “Hi! I’m glad you’re awake.”

I couldn’t be afraid of a man with that gentle, husky voice. Hell, I almost shivered at the sound.

When I tore my gaze from him I saw that Samuel’s gaze held a knowing amusement.

Now I felt beyond awkward. “Hello. I’m Becca. Thank you for taking care of me.”

Alec gave me a playful leer. “Believe me, it was my pleasure.”

Large hands gently squeezed my breasts as teeth nipped my neck.

My cheeks burned as I stared at the quilt.

Samuel elbowed Alec in the thigh. “Jerk. You’re gonna creep her out.”

Alec winced and hunched his shoulders. “Sorry. I was just teasing.”

“Are my clothes dry yet?” I asked. Maybe if I wasn’t naked I could get my mind out of the gutter.

Alec shook his head. “Would you like my bathrobe or a t-shirt? I think one of mine would go to your knees.”

“The robe please and thank you.” The more coverage the better.

Samuel tilted his head. “Get her a shirt too, Alec. It’s kind of chilly in here, away from the fireplace.”

I smiled at him gratefully. It was almost like he had read my mind.

* * * *

After freshening up in their bathroom, I joined them in the living room. “You guys have a really nice place.” I meant it too. They had given me a little tour before I had sat down.

It was a large two bedroom cabin, each with an attached bath. In between those rooms was a huge great room with a massive double-sided rock fireplace in the center dividing the kitchen and dining area from the living area. The log walls were a golden honey and the ceiling had matching beams running across them. The floors matched the walls and had colorful area rugs that broke up all the wood.

It was rustic but very nice. Homey, even with the makeshift clothesline marring the view of the fireplace in the dining area. I noticed they had picked comfortable clothes out of my bag, my red flannel sleep pants and soft blue t-shirt with little hearts scattered on it. Then my eyes were drawn to the two sets of matching bras and panties. Both lacy pairs were designed for looks not comfort.

I had arched an eyebrow at Samuel who had shrugged unrepentantly. “I’m a guy. I picked the pretty ones.”

I was sitting on the oversized brown leather sofa, almost feeling lost in Alec’s robe and shirt. I’d had to roll the robe’s sleeves up so my hands weren’t swallowed by them. The soft blue flannel had actually trailed the floor when I walked through the cabin.

Alec had to be nearly seven feet tall. I was five foot nine and unfortunately big boned with extra padding. But he had made me feel almost dainty when I stood next to him.

Samuel handed me a steaming mug of hot chocolate. “Why were you out driving in this? They’ve been saying for days how bad this was going to be.”

Umm, because I saw something I shouldn’t have and ran like hell.

“I guess I wasn’t thinking,” I shrugged and improvised. “I was heading up to the old St. John cabin a little ways past here.” I didn’t like the look they exchanged, especially when Alec knelt beside me.

Alec gently took my hand in his. “Honey, it’s not there anymore. There was a fire, and it hasn’t been rebuilt.”

I blinked at him as I tried to absorb the blow. I hadn’t even considered it might not be there when I ran. My only thought had been to run and hide somewhere familiar that might not be traced to me. So I had automatically decided on a place where I had always felt safe. Alec gently took the mug from my hands when I started shaking.

Jesus, Becca, when your luck goes bad it sure doesn’t fuck around.

I swallowed down the lump in my throat.
Where was I going to go?
“Is my car trashed? Maybe I can—” I fell silent as I realized I had nowhere else to go. The only people I could trust didn’t deserve the trouble I’d bring. Looking down at the floor I tried to think but everything was so tangled all I could do was try to fight back the fear and grief that I had held off since that night. My hands went to my face, hastily, wiping away the tears that had escaped.

Samuel sat next to me, putting one hand on my shoulder. “Hey, it’s okay, Sweetness. There’s no reason to rush. You can stay here for as long as you need.”

“Becca, we’ll take care of you.” Alec’s whispered promise nearly had me in tears.

I believed them. It made absolutely no sense but that same part of me that had hissed warnings about David was telling me to just curl up to them.

Hold on to them and never let go.

But I couldn’t because that would be insane.
Wouldn’t it?

Samuel patted my shoulder gently. “We’ll help you. Whatever you need.” He pulled his hand away. “There’s no hurry since everyone’s snow bond right now anyway. You just think about it for a while and let us know.”
