Tru winked. “Don’t come looking for us until then, though. We’re going to be busy.” Pen nudged him, but Adrian was laughing, ducking his head and making a face.
Tru had all kinds of ideas. Nuzzling his face against Pen’s neck—her so-delicious, sexy-as-hell neck—he whispered a few words only she would hear. A little shiver tickled through his wife, the woman who had married him twice. That would never stop amazing him.
“Try to behave,” she murmured back.
He quirked a grin. “Why? You love me when I’m bad.”
“I love you all the time.”
“So you do.” He lifted her into his arms and carried her off to the roaring approval of the gathered guests.
No need for farewells. They were all friends, and they’d see one another again. Visits would be made. Tales would spread, mouth to ear, as they did in the Changed world. Whispers carried on the wind. Winged skinwalkers would ferry messages between settlements. The wheel spun on.
Arturi might, in fact, alter the course of history. The Dark Age could brighten in days to come. Civilization might rise in a different and better direction. But Tru wasn’t looking that far down the road because he held his beloved in his arms. And anywhere, anytime, that Pen smiled at him, his whole world shone bright as daybreak.
