The tension eased from him. He kissed her quickly. “Good answer. I might’ve had to toss you over my shoulder and make for the bedroom to change your mind.”
She exhaled loudly. “That’s not the easiest way to carry a pregnant woman. I’d just roll off your shoulder.”
He grinned. “You’re right. I’ll go get a garden cart. Be a good mommy. I expect you to have gained weight when I come back.”
“Hey!” she laughed in protest as he got up.
He looked down, winked, and extended his hand. “How about I feed you first? I smell something good in the house, and you need to feed the baby.” He placed a hand over her gently rounded stomach, a smile of satisfaction and tenderness on his lips.
She sighed and blinked back a wave of bittersweet tears and hugged him hard. He might be a little rough around the edges, but she’d have no other. It wasn’t ever day a girl married her very own interstellar lover.
This was one Don Juan who wasn’t getting away.
