So
give me more details about your tour,” I said in an effort to stir
the conversation as far away from Hailey as possible. “Any exciting
stories?”

Well there were a few,” Blake said with a smile before setting
off into a series of stories. I was more than a little envious of
the exciting life he lived, and saddened by the fact that I knew I
would probably never escape the mundane life I lived in
Riverside

Over the course of the next two hours my one
drink turned into three, while Blake, who was too busy talking,
still remained on his first. By the time the bartender interrupted
him to let him know he was making one last call for drinks, my face
was scorching hot from a mixture of all the laughter and alcohol
running through my veins.

Looks like we better get out of here,” Blake said after he
finally finished his drink. “You didn’t drive here did
you?”

I shook my head. “You know I never drive if
I think I might be drinking. I took a cab.”

Want me to give you a ride back home?”

My eyes widened with excitement at the
prospect of spending some more time alone with him. “If you don’t
mind that would be great.”

Of
course I don’t mind, Rose,” he said with a smile before he slipped
off the stool. Fireworks erupted through my body as he took my hand
and guided me through the crowd. More than a few cheered and called
out to him as we walked past, but I could focus on nothing other
than the warmth of his fingers wrapped around mine. I knew it was
nothing more than a gesture of good friendship, but in the back of
my mind I couldn’t help, but imagine that it might mean
more.

The cool night air greeted us, and together
we walked around the building and into the parking lot. I was more
than a little disappointed when he let go of my hand, and I looked
up to see him staring at the clear night sky littered with
stars.

Do
you know what has been the worst thing about being single?” Blake
asked while still staring upwards.

The lack of sex’,
I thought as I took
the chance to once more look over his flawless body. I had the
strongest desire to just lick him, imagining that he would taste
better than the most delectable of desserts. “No,” I said with
slight shake of my head. Though in truth I sincerely understood the
pains of being single, I felt he just wanted someone to talk about
the specific pains he was feeling. “What is that?”

Sleeping alone,” he replied before his eyes suddenly fell to
meet mine. In that brief glance I felt exposed, as if my very soul
was being searched. Quickly I adverted my gaze, taking my turn to
look up at the beautiful night sky. “I miss the warmth and comfort
of having someone to sleep with. The mornings are so much better
when you have someone there with you.”

I
could help you with that,” I thought aloud as I continued to stare
up at the stars. Silence fell over us, and my eyes widened in
horror as I realized what I had let slip. My gaze dropped to see
him staring at me, as if measuring whether I had meant it as some
kind of joke. “I mean…”

You really would?” Blake asked, interrupting my failed attempt
to brush off my words.

Well yeah,” I said with a nonchalant shrug I used to try and
play off my nervousness. My heart thumped so loudly in my chest I
was surprised that he could even hear my words over it.

You don’t think it would be weird or anything?”

Not at all. We’ve been friends for what? Fifteen years
now?”

What about Hailey?” He asked. “She probably wouldn’t be too
thrilled, and you two are still living together.”

First off, you always have and always will come before Hailey.
Second, I guess we could just not tell her anything.”

Blake gave a nod, and I
looked him over as he weighed my words. For a moment I thought he
might decline my offer, and I realize how stupid I would feel if he
did that. ‘
Why hadn’t I just kept my lips
shut?’

That sounds good to me,” Blake finally said as he flashed me a
smile that mirrored one that came to my lips. “Let’s get out of
here.” He reached into his pants and produced a set of keys before
motioning towards the red motorcycle we had been absently standing
next to.

Wait, this is yours?” I asked, my expressing turning to one of
fear. “I don’t know if I can ride on that thing.”

Blake pulled a spare helmet off the back and
walked up to me. Gently he placed it over my head before he
carefully buckled the straps to secure that it was snug, but still
comfortable. “Don’t worry, you know I’ve been riding since I was
sixteen. You will be safe in my hands.”

Alright,” I breathed, trusting in his words and beautiful
smile that I truly would be safe. Together we slipped onto his
bike, and I took the opportunity to wrap my arms around his
muscular body as he started up the bike and led us out into the
dimly lit streets of Riverside.

Chapter 2

Blake lived only twenty minutes from the
club, but the time spent on his bike with my body pressed tightly
against his lean muscular frame as we zipped through the city was
among the most exhilarating experiences of my life. Having never
been on a motorcycle before I was initially more than a little
scared. Blake was in complete control, and while I had more than a
little faith in his ability to navigate us through the winding
turns of the city, I was fearful that he might have underestimated
the effect a woman of my size might have. With the wind whipping
around us, causing my long dark brown hair to create a whirling
tail that shot out from beneath my helmet, all my fears were erased
after we blazed through the first turn with ease.

By the time we pulled into Blake’s driveway
I was more than a little disappointed to have our adventure come to
an end. That disappointment didn’t linger long though for as he
took my hand and helped me off his bike I realized that soon we
would be experiencing a new adventure, one that neared a line I had
always hoped we might cross.

How was it?” Blake asked as he gingerly took the helmet off my
head.

That was probably the most exciting thing I’ve done in a very
long time,” I replied with a smile. “We should definitely do it
again sometime.”

That’s the spirit,” Blake said with a smile. “Maybe I’ll take
you out on a little road trip sometime.”

I beamed at the thought of escaping the city
with him. “I would really like that.”

Blake motioned for me to follow him as he
lead us into his house. Upon entering, Blake set the two helmets
side by side on a nearby table before he flipped on a light switch
to reveal his living room which hadn’t changed since I had last
seen it a little over a year ago. A massive television still hung
against the far wall with an L-shaped black leather couch set
before it. Between the couch and the T.V. was a large coffee table
with a few open notebooks scattered atop it.

Go
ahead and make yourself comfortable while I go and grab us
something to drink,” Blake said before he disappeared down the hall
and into the kitchen.

Following Blake’s suggestion I moved to the
couch and took a seat with a soft relaxing sigh. My curious eyes
wandered over the table before me, scanning the open pages from the
short distance. Immediately I could tell that they were lyrics, and
while I knew that Blake was a little defensive about letting others
read his work before it was finished, I couldn’t stop myself from
at least trying without making it obvious.

Sorry all I have is beer,” Blake said as he returned from the
room, causing me to jump after being so focused on discretely read
his notes.

It’s okay,” I said with a nervous smile before I turned to him
and took the offered bottle of beer.

Trying to steal a look?” Blake said with a small laugh before
he leaned over the table to close and stack the notebooks into a
neat pile.

You know how much I love your music. You can’t blame me for
wanting to know what you have coming next.”

Those lyrics are still a very long way from making it to the
studio.” Blake said as he took a seat beside me on the couch,
angling his body to face me. Being like this with him brought back
memories of all the late nights we had spent together through high
school and college. While I had always desired more from him, there
was no denying how enjoyable our time alone together had been
through the years.

When we were younger you used to always let me be the first to
hear your songs,” I replied before I took a sip of the beer, too
infatuated with Blake to even give notice to the taste.

You mean I used to let you tear them apart,” Blake replied
with a chuckle.

Don’t give me that,” I said with a shake of my head. “I’ve
always loved your music. I just didn’t want your ego to get too
big.”

Oh
I know,” Blake replied before taking a sip of his beer. My eyes
studied the way his soft lips puckered around the opening of the
bottle. “If I had really thought you had meant it I probably would
have laid down the guitar and found some office job.”

What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked at the obvious jab.
Since graduating from college I had been working in an office as a
sales representative for an insurance company.

I’m just pointing out that there was a time when many thought
you would grow up to become a world famous artist.”

Blake, that was in High School. Everyone thinks everyone is
going to be the next great everything until the real world comes
and shatters all those dreams.”

For some that may hold true, but you had some real talent. I
think that three of your paintings are still hung up inside city
hall.”

Probably just collecting dust,” I said with a shrug of my
shoulders.

Seriously, Rose. Why did you stop painting?”

I
lost my inspiration,” I replied as my eyes fell down to his lap.
The last painting I had done was a portrait of Blake as he modeled
for me, sitting alongside the shoreline of the river as it cut
through the city park. Despite my best efforts I had found it
impossible to capture the true beauty that resonated from the very
core of his being. Just as I was putting the final touches on my
painting, Hailey had arrived and as I was forced to watch them
embrace I felt as if my spirit had been crushed. Three days later I
had changed my major and never looked back.

How about we make a deal?” Blake asked, causing my eyes to
rise up to meet his.

Deal?”

If
you paint something of your choosing for me, then I will let you be
the first to hear our next new song.”

I looked at him for a long while, thinking
over his proposition as I stared deep into his intense blue eyes.
After all these years I couldn’t imagine how horrible my first
attempt at trying to paint again would be. “Two songs for one
painting,” I compromised.

Deal,” Blake replied without a moments hesitation. He reached
his hand out, and I took it as we shook. “Now it’s getting late,
how about we head to the bedroom?”

The mood seemed to change in a heartbeat,
and suddenly my nerves woke up. “Alright,” I replied before
finishing the beer for a last bit of courage.

Follow me,” Blake said after he took my empty beer and led me
down the hall towards his master bedroom. After making a quick stop
in the kitchen to discard the bottles, we walked past several rooms
including a guest bedroom where his bandmates and friends would
often stay. That was were I had slept the last time I had stayed
the night at his place. I felt a sense of accomplishment as we
moved past that door. As if tonight was the night of my promotion
and I was being shown to my new office on the top floor.

Well here we are,” Blake said after he pushed open the door to
his room and flicked on a switch. The first thing that caught my
attention was the large king sized bed covered with a red duvet,
set in the center of the far wall beneath a large window hidden
behind closed blinds. As I stepped in behind him my eyes wandered
over his sleek modernly styled furniture to the television that
hung against the wall opposite of the bed. Alongside the right wall
was a doorway that led to his private bathroom. “What do you
think?”

It
beats my room, that’s for sure,” I said with a smile as I walked
over to the foot of his bed where I hopped into a seated position
that caused my body to bounce slightly. For a brief moment I saw
Blake’s male instincts get the best of him as his eyes fell to the
movement of my breasts as they swayed beneath my black dress shirt.
I bit my lip wondering if his male instincts might get the best of
him later tonight. “You know I don’t have any pajamas to
wear.”
