Chapter 10

I woke up slowly. I needed to brush my teeth and I had a
slight wine headache. I lay there with my eyes closed, not relishing the idea
of having to get out of bed, when I felt someone watching me. I slowly peeked
through my lashes, Shane was sitting up in bed next to me watching me sleep. If
he didn’t look so cute it would have been creepy.

“Why are you up already?” I asked opening my eyes fully.

“Good morning beautiful,” he said. “Sleep well?”

“Mmhmm. You?” I asked sitting up next to him.

“Not really, I was awake most of the night.”

“I’m sorry. Any reason?”

“I was enjoying watching you sleep. Plus I was thinking
about what you said before you fell asleep.” Shane was watching me intently and
I had to take a moment to figure out what I had said.

I had almost been asleep when Shane had kissed my neck and
said good night and I had responded with… oh my god! I’d told Shane that I
loved him. No wonder he had been up all night. I looked back at Shane feeling
myself start to turn red in embarrassment.

“Did you mean it,” he asked looking at me expectantly.

How did I answer that and not sound desperate or
uninterested. Don’t be a schmuck, just tell him the truth. What
was
the
truth? How did I really feel about Shane? Who was I kidding, I had been in love
with him for years, I just accepted that he would never feel the same.

“Yes,” I said before I could come up with an excuse.

“I love you too,” Shane said leaning in to kiss me.

“Wait! Wait! I need to brush my teeth,” I said grabbing the
first excuse I could think of so I could take a minute to digest the fact that
Shane had said he loved me too.

Shane laughed as I jumped out of bed and hurried into the
ensuite bathroom to scrub the fur off my teeth. When I returned Shane was no
longer in bed, in fact he was no longer in my bedroom. I could feel the panic
starting to bubble up when I saw his shirt lying on the floor at the foot of
the bed. Where was he hiding?

I left the bedroom and found Shane wearing nothing but his
jeans in my kitchen. My eyes were immediately drawn to his well-defined abs
that disappeared below his waistband. Focus, you need to finish the
conversation he started before you ran away.

“What are you doing?”

“I was going to make you breakfast, but it looks like you’re
running a little low on breakfast foods.”

“I eat breakfast at work most days,” I responded stepping
closer to him. “Do you really want to talk about breakfast right now?”

“What would you like to talk about?” He asked giving me the
bedroom eyes.

“This,” I said as I wrapped my arms around his naked waist
and tilted my face up to kiss him. Shane met me halfway and I moaned lightly as
our lips met. This was a thousand times better when I was awake and sober.

Shane ran his hands down my back to cup my ass and then
pulled me closer. There was no space between us now and I loved it. I bit his
lower lip and was thrilled by his groan. Shane’s hands slid lower onto my
thighs causing me to moan low in my throat.

One second I was standing and the next I was seated on my
kitchen counter with Shane standing in between my spread legs. This was
accelerating faster than I had anticipated, but at the moment I was more than
okay with it. I ran my fingers through Shane’s hair as he sucked on my bottom
lip.

There was a knock on the kitchen door and I groaned in
disappointment. Shane bit down on my lip and slowly pulled away before letting
it go. He took a step back and gave me a sexy grin.

“You should probably get the door,” he said giving me a
wink.

“I’d rather continue what we were doing,” I said biting my
bottom lip. “Whoever’s at the door will come back later if it’s important.”

The person at the door knocked again, followed by Steph
yelling, “I know you’re in there.” I groaned again and banged my head off the
cabinet behind me.

Shane leaned in and kissed my forehead. “I love you.”

“Come in,” I yelled.

“Hi there you two,” Steph bounced in with a grin. “Am I
interrupting something?”

“Not at all,” I said hopping down from the counter. “What
brings you here Steph?”

“Came to see if you two had made up yet. I’ve been waiting
for years for you guys to figure out that you were in love.” She paused when
neither of us said anything, “Oh god, you didn’t get to that part yet? Please
tell me I didn’t ruin this,” she begged.

I shared a look with Shane before laughing. “You didn’t ruin
anything Steph.” I reassured her.

“I’m so happy for you guys,” Steph said rushing over to
gather us in a giant hug.

“Thanks Steph, I’m so happy you’re okay with this.” I told
her feeling tears forming.

“Now, I have something for you,” she said digging in her
purse. “I wasn’t sure if I would have to use these to make you two see reason
or if you could use them after I left.” She handed me the cuffs and Shane the
key.

“Looks like I’ll just be leaving these with you.” Steph said
with a wink as she closed the door behind her.

I couldn’t help but laugh. Things were definitely looking
up.
