Crescent Bound (33 page)

After a few
pulsating moments in our kiss
we pull back from each other, I gaze up
at his richly deep brown eyes and announce what I feel,
“
I love you.
”
  He leans into me only enough to entice me
more
with the soft light caress of his lips and replies
in his next breath,
“
I love you too.
”
  When we are together like this, I can never explain the attraction
,
but
it feels like we are just drawn to one another.  I suppose the best explanation would be like a magnetic force. 

I take
his hand and teasingly tell him,
“
Come on, my limo
will change back into a pumpkin by midnight.
”
We walk back to the dance floor and wrap our arms around each other, moving to the pounding, rhythmic music. 

I don
’
t think I will ever care for the high school events like this, but being here with him may change that.  I think to myself,
what
a perfect way to celebrate our graduation.

After a couple of dances we eventually walk back to sit at our table.  Marc goes to get us drinks.  Lisa dances her way over and sits beside me.  I know what she is going to say before she even speaks a single word.  I can see her excitement beaming from her.  She is almost glowing as she holds her cell out to me. 

“
Dawson
is coming.
”
  She
begins be
fore she even reaches the table,
“
and Megan mentioned there is
a phenomenal party on the other side of town and
Dawson
will be picking us up in about ten minutes.
”

Of course they want to go, rolling my eyes inwardly.

“
So, you and Marc are coming with us, right?
She inquires as she glides on some lip gloss to her already stunning lips. 

“
N
ot this time, I just want to spend time with him
alone.
I feel like I have been away far too long from him even though
it
’
s
only been a week.
”
I state to her.

“
I totally understand, Alyss,
”
Lisa
supportively
agrees and
I knew deep down she would.
             

Megan st
ruts up and sits down beside me,
“
Hey, are you going to the party with us?
”
  I shake my head at her.
“
No
, not tonigh
t.
”

Lisa winks over at Megan,
“I
thi
nk Alyssa wants Marc all to her
self tonight.
”
  Both of them look at me and then I feel Megan bump my leg
with hers
and in a sultry tone.

“
Aww, did you miss him, are you two going to make up for the time los
t? Well, if you ever want a menajahtwa
...
”

Chapter 23

I stop listening to her and turn my head looking around for
Marc;
he
’
s not by the bar that is
se
r
ving
the drinks.  I scan the dance floor, the other tables, nothing, no Marc. 

Lisa speaks up just then,
“
Hey,
Dawson
is downstairs, you want to walk us out?
”
 

I gla
nce over at Lisa and Megan,
“
Sure...just let me go find Marc.
”
  I get up and start walking around the room and then I think
,
surely
he didn
’
t go
far;
maybe he went out to use the restroom.
I
walk out of the ballroom area, and
start walking down one long hall and then another.  I
’
ve never been here before so I have no idea where I am going. 

My pace quickens
as I just start going on my instincts.  I follow down one hall and turn a corner.  Just as I walk around I feel my skin start to tingle.  Knowing he is close and hearing his soft familiar voice I walk into a room
, a
lecture room to be exact with all the lights on. 

Stepping throu
gh the doorway I see Marc and
Kelly up
against the wall, he is positioned
directly in front of her.  His hands are around her shoulders
tightly leaning in
, kissing her.  I just stand there frozen for a minute while my mind slowly catches up with what I
have
walked in on.  Just then Marc looks up at me and so does Kelly
,
but
I really could care less about Kelly.  Marc and I stare at one another in horror. 

Regrou
ping myself the best I can, I utter the only words I’m able to verbalize
,
“
Sorry... to disturb you.
”
  Even with all my control, my voice still trembles
mimicking my body
.  I know I have to leave immediate
ly. Lisa shifts next to me giggl
ing, but quickly stops once she realizes what
’
s going on and then Megan appears.

“
Oh, holly crap Batman!
”
  Megan blurts
out loud.  I never take my eyes away from Marc as I whisper quietly to Lisa and Megan
,
“
I.
.. need to get out of here.
”
I quickly take a few steps back until I am out of Kelly
’
s view and shift completely out of the room and into the
empty
hall. 

I hear Megan answer
,
“
Let
’
s do
this
,
and get you to
the batmobile!
”
 

As soon as I get around the corner I hear Marc yell,
“
No! Alyssa
,
wait…
”

Lisa and Megan use their air elements to shut the door on Marc.  That gives me some time to move. I can
’
t remember how I got here and I
’
m so angry my hands are turning to solid ice.  I shift down the hall a few feet trying to keep my h
ead together, practically running blindly as my eyes blur with raging tears.

We
’
re on the fourth floor, s
urely there has to be stairs or an elevator
, some type of escape out of this miserable place
.
I suddenly
hear doors slamming, Megan and Lisa are both working together trying to keep him away
,
but
it doesn
’
t hold him off for long.  The doors burst open.  Some are covered in shear frost.  I know he will catch up with me soon.  The tingling sensation pounds down my spine
fiercely
and I know
it
s
Marc moving closer. 

Instantly
,
He shifts not too far behind me.

Megan yells as she runs behind me,
“
Well, I guess the door didn
’
t hold Mr.
Freeze
too long, maybe he needs to just chill out?
”
  I
have to keep running
never replying to her, I only focus on shifting forward faster.  Megan turns around and aims her hands out at Marc using a burst of wind, trying to knock him backwards.  He raises a hand as a wall of i
ce appears, blocking her
wi
ndstorm.  It doesn’t
stop him
,
but
it does
slow him
down
for a second or two. 

Marc
’
s voice keeps
desperately yelling
,
“
Stop... please
stop!
”
  I don
’
t think he truly understands what he
’
s done.  Yes, perhaps to someone in the mundane world it would appear as a simple innocent kiss.  For our kind it is strictly forbidden. 

The two
lifemate
s will definitely reap the consequences and I know, for whatever reason, it no longer matters.  I have to get out, no... I
need
to get out. 

It seems like I
’
m going around in
circle and then finally I see the stairs.  Not knowing this place
it
’
s
hard for us to just shift more than ten feet away.  We need a clear path in order for any of us to shift. 

Lisa and Megan both are using their air element relentlessly to shut every door they possibly can behind us.  Within a microsecond Marc freezes the doors and slams mercilessly right through them. 

Finally, I see the doors leading outside, but
it
’
s
chained and locked.  We must have found the back entrance.  I raise my hands and with as much force as I have
,
I shoot solid ice draggers out towards the doors.  Shattering the chains apart, the door opens and I shift swiftly to the other side.

Megan and Lisa shoot out another whirlwind of air at Marc wh
ich knocks him back this time. 
Running out I see the parking lot and there is
,
Dawson
’
s D
odge, David
’
s Chevelle, and another car I do
n
’
t recognize, waiting for us. The guys just look at us as we bound madly out of the building, like
“
What the hell
?
”

They figure out something is wrong pretty quick and
Dawson
shifts next to Lisa to get her to his car.  Megan is still sh
ooting blasts of air at Marc.

She looks over h
er shoulder and yells at David,
“
Get her out of here, Batman!
”
  The next thing I know ice is formi
ng all around me.  Marc
raises his hands out, shooting out
nothing
but
a heavy laye
r of ice surrounding me
.  It
’
s exactly what
he did to Naomi.  If he encloses me I won
’
t be able to get out. 

David shifts next to
me;
his hands flaming intensely with fire.  He tries to place his hands on the ice fortress and melt it, but it is a frozen solid imprisonment. 

The two other guys from the third car jump out and start blasting Marc with their own
incinerating flames
of fire.  No matter how hard David tries to release me from my ice prison he just can
’
t.  With pure anguish and anger
swarming through me I turn around and face Marc. 

I can see him through the icy walls, staring into his eyes I release my fury, my ice flooding every vein throughout my body and I kneel down to the ground drawing all the energy I can absorb.  Slowly, I start rising up, placing my hands on either side of me touching the walls that surround me. 

As I stand the icy walls begin to crack wherever my hands are, splintering around my fingertips.   Finally, I stand completely and shove my hands out
ward
as hard as I can.  The ice walls explode around me causing everyone to duck down for cover.  Marc looks at me with despair riddling inside him and I raise my hands out and shoot out ice daggers, he throws up a wall blocking them. 

The only thing I
’
m able to say to him is,
“
I was such a fool,
”
I quickly
shift to David
’
s car.  The other guys keep up their attack on Marc, which gives us the chance to drive away.

As we are driving off, I turn and look behind us and see Marc still fighting the fire element guys.  I fall over next to David and let the tears flow.  David figures things out and drives us to his house where he knows Marc won
’
t have a clue where I am.  David owns a large house jus
t a few miles from the Arcane.
