Many new faces at the PD already, of course. Zarraza was made a sergeant of detectives and he's actually running the homicide detail until everything shakes out in the reorganization. Ramirez is gone, a lot of them are gone, and a lot of them will be facing charges in the days ahead. Some are already behind bars—a couple of patrol teams and a dispatcher, in particular, in connection with the ambush of Hanson and Rodriguez, which of course was ordered by Boyd as the new "chairman of the board."
I can drop in there any time I like, now, and get a nice reception. Many of those guys were damned glad to see the shakeup come down, and some of them still call me Chief. Funny, isn't it? Never saw myself as a Chief, forever an Indian. Naw, I'd make a terrible chief. I get bored too easy, and I can't stand the politics.
Sort of enjoy having a partner, though, after all this time. Maybe I fall in love too easy, too, but what is a world without love? I believe Lila is looking over my shoulder as I write this. She wants to go to the Boathouse and rape another Woody's steak sandwich.
I could do that.
What the hell. I'd love to do that.
