Minister: "I do by the virtue of authority vested in me as a minister of the gospel and the authority of the Father, sanction your desire to reaffirm your wedding vows."
I wish I could include a photograph of Loren and Erma! If you could only see them, you would agree with me that they absolutely radiate with joy. Oh, that we could all look that good and be that happy after 50 years of married life!
"_________________, I'm glad I had the good sense to marry you 50 years ago. They've been good years as we survived everything the world had to throw at us: those Depression years, when we made our own soap and ate by candlelight every night because we couldn't afford electricity; juggling two jobs at once when the children were growing up; those painful times of separation when I served in the Navy during the war; the day we lost our stock in the range fire; and your surgery two years ago. We've been through a lot together, but our love has survived it all and we deserve to celebrate. I love you, my darling husband / wife, as much today as the day I married you and I'm happy to commit myself to you as your loving husband / wife for at least 50 more years!"
(Personalize these vows with your own memories.)
"When we were married _____________ years ago today, I thought I knew what love was. I was in love with you, that I knew for sure; but, as I look back on all our years together, I realize now that our love at its beginning, although it was real and sure, was only a

shallow imitation of the love I feel for you today. Every year, in your dear, precious way, you have made me love you more and more. And why? Because the more I know you, the more I love you. You are worthy of a deep, holy love, and that is what I feel for you today as I gladly recommit my heart and life to you."
"On this day _________ years ago, I promised to love you and cherish you all the days of my life. I hereby reaffirm that promise, in the presence of God and our family. ______________, you have been my friend and companion and the revered mother/father of our children, but, most of all, you have been my beautiful loving bride/handsome loving husband for all these years, and I renew my pledge to you today of my eternal devotion."
Reaffirmation Vows with the Wine Ceremony
(The couple sips from the same glass or silver cup and then recites these vows.)
"As we drink together from this cup of wine, so may we continue in a perfect union of love and devotion to each other as we continue to draw contentment, comfort and felicity from the cup of life, and thereby find life's joys doubly gladdening and its bitterness sweetened by our true companionship and love."
If you are having a formal reaffirmation ceremony or if you enjoy the classics, look in Chapter 9 for the reaffirmation selections, including writings by Shakespeare, Kahlil Gibran, John Keats, Robert and Elizabeth Browning, Walt Whitman and Anne Bradstreet.
