Carefully, so as not to disturb Kelsey, I
reach over to the nightstand and grab my phone. It’s only seven, but I already
have two text messages waiting for me. One is from Finn, letting me know the
kid who’s got the dayshift watching Kelsey will be getting here at eight and also
that her car is being towed to the station where forensics, basically one guy
in this town, can look it over. The second message is from Ryan, letting me
know that the trial starts in three days, but that the captain insists I come
back tomorrow so we can prepare.

“Shit,” I breathe out, throwing my phone
back onto the nightstand.

“What is it?” Kelsey asks, her voice still
heavy with sleep.

I scrub a hand down my face, not knowing
what the fuck I’m going to do. How can I possibly go back to Boston now, after
everything that’s happened? I might trust Finn, but that doesn’t mean I want to
leave her. If anyone’s going to look after Kelsey, make sure she stays safe; it’s
me.

“It’s Ryan, isn’t?” she says when I don’t
say anything.

“Yeah.”

“You need to go back to Boston,” she says
now. There’s no malice in her voice, no resentment or anger either. She’s
simply stating a fact, one that neither of us can avoid or ignore.

“I do,” I say, staring up at the ceiling.

Kelsey lifts herself on her elbow so she’s
looking down at me, a sad smile on her face. “It’s okay, Beck,” she says,
leaning in to kiss me. “I understand, really. And Finn will be here to look
after me.”

I shake my head, knowing that’s not good
enough. Despite everything, I love my brother, trust him with my life, but this
shit with Jason is serious, especially now we know he used to be a cop. Fucking
hell, no wonder he’s so good at escaping us. And Finn is going to be so busy
looking for clues and ways to find this guy; he’s going to be too distracted to
focus on keeping the one thing I need more than anything safe.

Kelsey.

“Beck,” she says more firmly now. I force
my eyes to hers; see nothing but love and concern looking back at me. “Go and
do your job. Finn will look after me, I’ll be okay and I’ll be here waiting for
you when you come back.”

“How am I supposed to leave you now, babe?”
I ask, my fingers tracing her eyebrow. “I don’t give a shit about the trial in
Boston, not when I know this fucker is still out there.”

Kelsey smiles at me as she leans in to
press a soft kiss to my lips. “I know, but you need to do this. You have people
counting on you and I know you could never live with yourself if you let them
down, if this trial failed because you didn’t go back.”

“I couldn’t live with myself if something
happened to you,” I whisper, knowing it would absolutely destroy me if I lost
Kelsey now. Being without her for the last ten years was bad enough, but to
lose her now, after everything we’ve been through. I’m pretty sure it would
kill me.

“I know you couldn’t,” she says, her
fingers brushing the hair off my forehead. “Nothing’s going to happen to me
though. Not when I’ve got Finn and Pop and the whole Rockport police force to
look after me.” I try smiling at her, even though none of this makes me feel
any better. “And when you’re done, you can come back and look after me too,”
she says, winking as though she means this in an entirely different way to how
the others will look after her.

It makes my chest tight and my heart ache
at the thought of being without her. “I will come back, Kels,” I promise her.
“It will be a couple of days tops, and I will come back.”

“I know you will,” she breathes out.

“I will,” I say, my eyes locking on to hers.
“Because I can’t live without you, baby.” And then I pull her mouth to mine and
kiss her.

Chapter
Nineteen
Kelsey

I hate the thought of Beck leaving, but I
knew it was coming and after all we’ve been through over the past few weeks, I
know without a doubt that he’ll come back to me.

Still in bed, lying in Beck’s arms, it’s as
if neither of us wants to move, like if we just stay here the world outside
doesn’t exist. But then my phone chimes on the nightstand next to me and Beck
tenses in my arms.

I giggle a little and run my fingers down
his chest, causing him to shudder, but relax back into my body. I’ve finally
gotten used to having a phone that doesn’t send me into a tailspin of anxiety
every time it goes off, but clearly Beck hasn’t. Knowing that Jason doesn’t
have this number makes picking up my phone a whole lot easier.

“There are only five people who have this
number, Beck. You, Finn, Pop, Erin and Ryan; it’s all good, baby.” I lean down
and kiss him before grabbing the phone and reading the text.

“Who was it?” Beck asks.

“Finn,” I say casually as I pull back the
sheets and expose Beck’s semi erect cock. I lick just the tip and I can already
taste him on my tongue, which only makes me long to have him come in my mouth.

Sliding my warm mouth over him fully, his
head falls back and he groans out loud. Beck’s hands settle on my head and follow
the rhythm as my head bobs up and down on his cock. I swirl my tongue around
the tip and let my teeth graze his shaft as I take him back in my mouth.

“Kels,” he moans out, his hands fisting in
my hair, gripping tightly, but still clearly distracted by the text I received
just a few minutes ago because he asks breathlessly, “What’d my brother want?”

“Don’t talk to me about your brother while
I’m sucking your dick,” I grumble, and Beck laughs a deep throaty laugh as I
look up at him through my lashes.

“Fine. Then get back to sucking my dick,”
he says, shoving my head back towards his hips.

I giggle as I take him back in my mouth and
slip my hands under him to grab his ass. As my mouth moves slowly, my tongue
stroking, my teeth gently running along his firm cock, Beck lets out a low hiss
when I run my finger along the seam of his ass. Pressing my finger softly
against him, he moans, “Oh fuck, Kels. I’m not gonna last long.”

I continue my delicious assault on him as
Beck reaches down and traces his finger around my lips while his cock slides in
and out of my mouth.

I press my finger into him and my mouth
keeps its even tempo, feeling Beck’s hips leave the bed, he thrusts into my
mouth, tightening his hand in my hair as he empties himself into me. Groaning
with each thrust and calling out my name, he doesn’t still until every bit of
him is inside me.

I take every drop of him, letting my lips
glide over him, cleaning him as I remove my mouth from his cock. Beck smiles
down at me and I slide my hand out from under him as I crawl up the length of
his amazing body.

“Good morning,” I whisper sweetly, kissing
his swollen parted lips.

“Morning,” he whispers back, but it comes
out ragged and it makes me laugh. “You wear me out.” He exhales hard and again
I giggle.

“Am I more than you bargained for?” I ask
seductively.

“Never.”

“Good. Now we need to get moving. I’ve gotta
check on things here and then I have to go to the supermarket.”

I climb out of bed and make my way to the
bathroom. I stop in the doorway and look over my shoulder at Beck lying in bed.
His gorgeous cock still hard and resting on his stomach as his eyes rake over
my naked body.

“You coming?” I ask and he chuckles.

“Already did, baby, but now I wanna make
you come.” His voice is like sex as it fills my ears and makes my pussy wet.
“Bend over and show me that sweet pussy,” he growls.

I place my hand on the doorframe and bend
at the waist, and as I spread my legs, my pussy on display for him, I run my
finger through my soaking wet slit. When I glance over my shoulder at him, Beck
has his cock in his hand, stroking.

Before I know it, he’s on his feet, filling
me and stretching me until I call out his name.

“Beck, fuck me hard,” I gasp out loud.

“Get yourself there, baby,” he says as he
guides my hand between my legs and presses my fingers into my swollen clit. “This
is gonna be hard and fast.”

“I like it rough,” I moan and Beck tangles
his fingers in my hair and pulls my head back, his teeth biting down on my
shoulder as I grip the doorway with my free hand.

With his hand over mine, I rub myself until
I feel my body begin to shudder as Beck’s hips thrust painfully and quickly
against my ass.

“Fuck, Beck, I’m coming,” I scream and he
pounds into me until my legs are shaking and he wraps his arm around my waist
to keep me from sinking to the ground. I feel him fill me, his cock releasing
itself inside my already drenched pussy. I love the thought of his come deep
inside my body, owning me, marking me.

“Baby,” he murmurs against my skin as I’m
coming down from my orgasm. “I love that this entire inn knows I fucked you
just now. Knows that it’s my cock that made you come.”

“Oh, god, fuck,” I moan. “Stop talking or I’ll
never leave this room.”

“That’s the plan, baby,” Beck growls as he
runs his tongue down my spine and along my ass before his hands grasp my hips
and he pulls until my pussy connects with his mouth. His tongue deliciously
warm as he licks the length of me.

“Fuck, we’re never going to get anything
done today,” I say as my forehead falls against the doorframe.

Several hours later and still feeling
flushed from our morning, we head to the supermarket. Beck is lagging behind,
his eyes down and a Boston Red Sox cap on his head as we meander the aisles
looking for what I need. Something about this moment makes me smile. He looks
just like he did when we were kids and he was trying to avoid having to talk to
all the nosy townies.

As I look back at him, it occurs to me that
Beck hasn’t been in town since he arrived. He’s been at the inn and at the pub
and the police station, but it seems he’s been avoiding actually coming in
contact with anyone who might want to grill him on why he’s back in town.

Of course the entire town knows he’s back.
How could they not? This shit with Jason has been town gossip since it began
and coupled with Beck’s return, it’s on everyone’s lips.

I laugh a little at Beck nearly running
right into Mrs. Holmes. This lady is always at the supermarket, her cart filled
with cans of cat food and Jell-O and it makes me laugh out loud. Serves Beck
right for trying to avoid this shit. God knows I’ve had to deal with it for the
last ten years.

“Beckham O’Loughlin,” she croons as she
pats his cheek and I have to cover my mouth to stifle the laugh that threatens
when I take in his face. “Oh, sweetheart, I’m so glad you’re back. I always
knew you two would end up together and get married.”

Beck gives me a sideways glance, his eyes
begging for me to save him and I shake my head. He’s on his own with this one.
I giggle as I slowly push the cart away from the two of them.

I quickly load up my cart with what I need
to make dinner tonight, including all the stuff to make that gross bread
pudding Pop likes. I still haven’t mentioned to Beck why Finn texted me, or why
we’re at the supermarket in the first place.

Ever since Beck left, I started having
dinner with Pop and Finn once a week. Me making dinner, and us chatting about
life; just being a family and it became the norm. I love it and with Beck’s
return, I missed the last few weeks with them.

It’s not so much that I’m intentionally
keeping it from Beck; I’m just not exactly sure how he’ll react.

Beck finds me in the bread aisle and lets
out an exasperated huff as he stops in front of the cart, putting his hands on
it and keeping me from going any further.

“Thanks a fucking lot, Kels,” he says, but
his tone is still playful.

I smirk at him before answering back, “You
deserved that.”

“Touché,” he says, walking around the cart
and smacking me on the ass.

After finding everything I need, Beck looks
in the cart and asks what I’m making.

“Guinness stew and bread pudding, the one
with apples and raisins,” I answer, but my voice is quieter than I expect.

“My dad loves that shit,” he says,
casually, looking at a magazine in the check out line.

“I know. We’re having dinner with your dad
and Finn tonight.”

“Okay,” he says, shrugging his shoulders
and returning to the magazine. I let it go for now.

I don’t think now is the time to unload on
him that I spend once a week with his family, sometimes more depending on our
schedules. I don’t think he expected that my life would go on, that I would
grow close with his family, and that Finn and I would become friends, but that’s
exactly what happened when he left. I attached myself to his family in an
attempt to hold on to him, but in the end I gained so much more than just memories
of Beck.

When we walk up to Pop’s house, Beck still
hasn’t asked anything about dinner. At this point, I think he just assumes I’ve
set him up to bond with his dad and his brother.

Not bothering with a knock, I walk right in
and Pop and Finn are on the couch watching the Red Sox game, while they have a
few beers. It’s the way it always is and it makes me smile.

“Hey, baby girl,” Pop says, standing and
greeting me with a hug.

Seconds later, Finn stalks over and pulls
me into a big hug, lifting me off the ground and making me giggle. “Missed
you,” he says as he kisses my cheek.

“I know, me too. Kinda sucked not seeing
you guys.” Even though I’ve been with Finn practically every day since all this
has been happening with Jason, it’s not the same. We haven’t had a chance to
catch up and I miss just talking with him.

Beck is still standing in the doorway, an
indignant look on his face as I tell him to take the food into the kitchen. He
complies, but not without muttering some nonsense about Finn’s idle hands.
