When she tried to move, she realized she was tied four bedposts, her arms and legs outstretched, and she was completely naked. She couldn’t scream because her mouth was covered with duct-tape. She struggled to free herself, but the thick rope was knotted securely around her wrists and ankles.

Apple was able to turn her head and look around. The barren room was nasty and run down, with peeling paint and black mold. There was one badly fitted small window in the room with the curtains drawn closed, and it reeked of every odor. There was a clogged sink that had partly fallen off the wall and hung at an odd angle.

Apple squirmed violently against the stained bed, trying to free herself, but it was hopeless. She mumbled under the duct-tape, but it was all incoherent. She wasn’t going anywhere. She turned her head to the right and quickly saw a shadowy figure seated in an old chair. Her eyes widened. His face was unclear in the dark. She focused her undivided attention on the stranger, feeling her heart beat a thousand times in one second.

Apple became frightened. She thought it was Guy Tony.

“It’s about fuckin’ time you woke up,” the figure spoke.

Apple didn’t know the voice. It wasn’t registering in her mind.

“You know how long I waited for this moment? A long fuckin’ time,” he added.

Apple kept her eyes trained on him. She didn’t blink. She couldn’t turn away. He proceeded to step forward, and slowly but surely, he revealed his image from the darkened corner where he was seated. Apple was shocked.

“You fuckin’ remember me?” he said. “Huh? You dumb bitch!”

Apple did. It was Ayesha’s oldest brother, Shaun. Apple continued to squirm. She knew Shaun wasn’t there to do her right. The menacing look he carried in his eyes sent chills all through her naked body.

Shaun moved closer. He was scowling. “I lost a fuckin’ sister and my brother Memo because of you!”

He was in a pair of beige cargo shorts and a tight-fitting tank top that showed off his strapping physique and tattoos. He had on dusty black sneakers and sported a bald head.

Apple remembered when Shaun was a scrawny peewee kid running around Harlem since they were ten years old. He was older than her by two years, but she remembered him always being a nerd. He went away two years ago. Ayesha always said he went off to a private school. He had changed a lot.

Shaun had been watching Apple closely for months and had been planning his revenge. Ayesha was his heart, and when Apple took his sister away from her because of a petty beef between them, it changed him.

Their grandmother had a small insurance policy taken out on each grandchild, and when Ayesha was gunned down, the family had gotten ten thousand dollars. Her brothers Memo and Shaun paid off their bills and a few debts with the money, and what was left over, they invested in weed.

Shaun became a small-time hustler, until he stumbled upon a new hustle in Mexico. He owned a whorehouse with underage girls in Los Mochis, Mexico, a dusty small town a few miles south of the border, where the summers were extremely hot, reaching over a hundred degrees during the day and overnight lows of eighty degrees.

Shaun had some status in the city with his illicit business of selling sex. The Mexican police would frequent his place for sex or to get their weekly payoff. He had a good thing going.

“Yeah, you stupid bitch, I ain’t that young, nerdy nigga anymore. You better start getting used to me, because you’re gonna see a whole lot of me from now on. I got plans for you, Apple—something special.”

Shaun took a seat next to her on the bed and placed his hand on her thigh. He smiled. He then moved it up a little bit, toying with her, making her fidget under his touch.

“Still nice,” he uttered. “I wanna know, though, who fucked up your pretty little face? Shit, they did me a favor. Started something I plan on finishing.”

Shaun picked up a small leather pouch from off the floor and unzipped it. He removed a syringe and a packet of dope. The glint in his eyes showed how much he was enjoying the moment.

Apple wanted to speak. She had so many questions. She pleaded with her eyes. She continued to fidget, wanting to break herself free.

Shaun began mixing and cooking the dope right in front of Apple’s eyes. She could only watch on helplessly as Shaun planned her vicious fate. He used a silver spoon to dissolve the heroin in. He then took a piece of cotton and dropped it into the heroin to filter out any particles. Shaun took the tip of the syringe and pushed it into the center of the cotton. Then he slowly pulled back the plunger, until all of the heroin was sucked in.

Next, Shaun chose where to shoot it into Apple’s body.

Apple began to tear up as her eyes followed the syringe.

Shaun neared the tip of the needle closely to where her arm folded because it would be easy to get it into one of her veins properly. He held the syringe flat against her skin and slowly inserted it, and the dope went pouring into her bloodstream like a running river.

Apple felt a sudden burning sensation, and her head fell back against the mattress. She was no longer watching Shaun closely.

Shaun pulled the plunger from her arm and only a slow trickle of blood was released. He smiled.

As if on cue, the door to the room opened, and a tall Mexican clad in a police uniform stepped inside.

“There you go, my friend. She’s all yours,” Shaun stated.

Mi amigo, ella es fea
!” the officer said, meaning she was ugly.

“She’s what you asked for. She’s American and black, Pedro. Besides, the damage is only one side to her face.
Ella es todavía muy bien ir.

Pedro shook his head and sighed. He stared at the drugged Apple and smiled. He walked closer to the mattress and observed her body.

“She’s your freak, Pedro. Enjoy her,” Shaun said with a conniving smile.

The officer licked his lips, admiring the young body of the teenage girl. He passed Shaun a few pesos for payment and began unbuckling his pants. He was excited.

“I’ll leave y’all two alone,” Shaun said, making his exit.

Pedro was bottomless. His pants were on the floor, and his dick was hard and clutched in his hand. He climbed between Apple’s listless legs and thrust himself into her.

The heroin had Apple feeling euphoric. She didn’t fight off the man on top of her. In fact, she wasn’t even aware that she was being raped.

“Ugh! Ugh! Ugh!” the Mexican officer grunted, violating Apple in the missionary position.

His sexual episode was quick. He was in, and five minutes later, he was pulling out. He quickly got dressed and hurried out of the room.

Shaun peered in on Apple and smiled. “Yeah, you and me, we gonna have lots of fun.” Then he closed the door to his prize.

Epilogue

H
arlem had two major figures vying for control of the streets—Chico and Kola. Apple had been forgotten. It’d been a month since her sudden disappearance, and many people thought she’d run off because she was too embarrassed to face anybody.

Chico was gaining his control again over his city streets. He had a strong pipeline to the South, via the Johnson brothers, and a new chick by his side. Apple was becoming nothing but a memory for him.

Kola was the queen of New York. She didn’t care who she had to cross, even if it meant killing those closest to her. She didn’t want to end up like her sister, missing and her reputation ruined. So when she gave the order to have Edge killed, it didn’t disturb her. She considered it a cost of doing business.
