“You bet.” She rested her head on his shoulder. When she’d picked him up, she wasn’t sure she’d be a good enough owner for Roman. She couldn’t imagine having another man in her life.
“But you don’t see anything in the pictures?” Joel sat forward on the couch. His brows rose and he sighed. “The place is a wreck, but it was before the house ended up in pieces.”
She studied the images. Four of the pictures had been taken before the house went down. The other seven were after the house had been destroyed. The more she stared at the photographs, the more she wasn’t sure what she actually remembered. “There’s not as much greenery. Like someone ripped down the ivy around the porch. I could barely see onto the porch before. Here, it’s all gone.”
“Was there something important in the ivy?” Hayden moved the images around. “I see what she means. There are stumps from the ivy here, but it’s bare dirt here.”
“I’m not sure.” Joel scratched his chin. “She didn’t feed us the ivy.”
“Never said she did,” Hayden replied. “I meant, was there some medicinal quality to it? Or magical?”
“Yeah,” Penelope chimed in, “would it help you guys or protect you or something? People didn’t find you until she wanted us to. Maybe it was like a cloaking device or something.”
“Could be.” Roman nodded. “We were all safe at the house. It wasn’t until after I left that the house was abandoned. Think Adrian made it out, too?”
“We’ve got to hope.” Ascher folded his arms. “And keep sniffing him out. If he’s close, we’ll find him.”
“You found me pretty well. I’m here to help find Adrian.” Roman draped his arm around Jessa’s shoulders and tugged her close. “I’ve found my groove with Jessa.” He kissed the side of her head. “We’re a team, right?”
“I can’t see my life without you,” Jessa said. Her life had changed the moment she decided to get a cat, and she wouldn’t change a moment of the last year. She’d learned to trust again and to believe in herself. Very groovy, indeed.
When she’s not writing the stories in her head, Megan Slayer can be found luxuriating in her hot tub with her two vampire Cabana boys, Luke and Jeremy. She has the tendency to run a tad too far with her muse, so she has to hide in the head of her alter ego, but the boys don’t seem to mind.
When she’s not obsessing over her whip collection, she can be found picking up her kidlet from school.
She enjoys writing in all genres, but writing about men in love suits her fancy best.
