His hands slid around to her ass cheeks and helped her lift up. He then took his cock and brushed it up and down her center line, from the top of her slit to asshole. Her breath caught, and then she moaned at the fire that was consuming her entire body from that simple touch. Shifting with her growing need, she could not take any more teasing. She reached down and fit the head of his cock at the entrance to her pussy then lowered herself over his thick, impressive length until he completely filled her.

Light-headed with lust, she leaned forward and rested her hands on his chest for balance as her body adjusted to his invasion. It took a moment, but with his hands on her hips, she began to raise and lower herself on his cock. As she did, she squeezed her pussy muscles around the shaft as she moved up and down its length.

As she rode, she focused on Cash’s pleasure, for this was not about her, but about him. He needed to understand that life went on after death, even an unexpected one such as his grandfather’s.

But her own arousal refused to be ignored. Her hips began to move forward and back instead of just up and down. Cash growled in response. When she opened her eyes to gauge his mood, he appeared quite pleased. She wondered if it was the feelings he was experiencing or the sounds she was making as her clit rubbed against the base of his cock and belly just above.

With his wolf clearly visible in his eyes, he wrapped his hands around her hips and guided her motions. Three strokes later, he bent his legs to plant his feet behind her. On her next upstroke, he held her steady and began thrusting up, taking over the fucking. As their movements grew faster and more powerful, she watched him grow more tense.

“Oh, shit,” he groaned. “Gonna. Come. Now.”

Her own release caught her by surprise. She cried out as her focus narrowed to her pussy, which clenched tight around his cock. At the same time, his length seemed to be growing even longer and thicker inside her. His thrusts grew erratic but even more powerful as he pulled her down onto his shaft with even greater force. In the next instant, he howled as his cock jerked deep inside her, filling her pussy with his heated semen. Her orgasm peaked, and her screams echoed his as her body convulsed around his.

He kept them locked together as he relaxed back onto the blanket. Zoe had to lock her arms to keep from melting into a puddle of goo across his body. Fearful they might have drawn unwanted attention, she looked up and down the beach to confirm they still had it to themselves.

Her eyes widened as a shiver ran through her. “Uh, Cash? I don’t think we’re alone any longer.”

Though her tone was carefully bland, it took a moment for her words to cut through the satiated fog that had engulfed his brain. When they did, his wolf took over. Jerking her arms out from under her, he pulled her down to lie on his chest before logrolling them so he was covering her.

The lethargy that had flowed through him disappeared as a savage need to protect his mate from whatever or whoever was interrupting their loving interlude shoved it aside. He jerked his cock from his mate’s delectable pussy, earning a whine from his mate at the loss. When he pushed up onto all fours, shifted, and growled loudly, she gasped and froze under him. He smelled her fear, but he had no time to shift back and console her. He had an interloper to deal with.

Swinging his head around, he looked up and down the beach, spotting a small, wet, sand-covered black wolf slowly approach. From her posture, he could tell she was nervous, but he also knew she needed to talk to him. He was, after all, her big brother. A quiet discussion with the king had him thinking she was nervous about more than just interfering with his alone time with his mate.

Stepping so that he stood between Zoe and his sister, he shifted back. Grabbing a towel from the stack at the edge of the blanket, he handed it to Zoe. “Wrap up in this.” He grabbed a second one and wrapped it around his lower body before standing up.

“Do we know that wolf?” Zoe asked in a trembling voice as she sat up and did as requested.

Cash nodded. “It’s Diamond, my sister.”

He waved for the wolf to hurry her ass up so they could get this over with. He wanted to get back to the important things, like showing his mate what island loving was all about.

“Oh,” was all Zoe said as she stood and moved to the other side of the shaded area, though her gaze remained on the wolf as she trotted toward them.

“Turn around for a minute,” Cash instructed.

He opened the third beach towel and turned to where the wolf had stopped just at the edge of their shaded area. “Well, come on and put this on,” he grumbled, holding out the towel. He turned his head and focused on Zoe’s bare shoulders until Diamond pulled the material from his grip.

“Thanks,” she said, bending over then standing up and tossing her hair out of her face.

“Where are your clothes?” Cash felt compelled to ask.

“Still on the back patio where I left them last night, I expect. I haven’t been back to the house since then,” Diamond said, dropping her head to focus on tucking in the end of her towel rather than looking at him.

“Why not?” Cash asked.

“He growled at me, and I got scared,” Diamond admitted softly.

“Who growled at you?” Cash demanded, his protective instincts flaring.

“That man in the library. He frowned at me and growled when I brought the tea. I don’t know what I did to piss him off, since I’d never seen him before in my life, but I decided not to hang around and find out.”

Plopping herself on the blanket, Diamond opened the cooler and pulled out a bottle of water. “Nothing to eat?”

“You want food, go to the bar. There’s a wake going on.”

Diamond twisted the cap off and drank it down without pausing for breath. Once she finished, she burped loudly then blushed as she glanced at Zoe. “Sorry about that. My manners suck,” she admitted with a shrug and a shy grin.

“I have a feeling that will be changing,” Zoe said.

Cash watched Zoe closely as his mate gracefully knelt, took one of Diamond’s hands, and clasped it between her own. Closing her eyes, she smiled and nodded as if pleased by something.

Opening her eyes, she looked Diamond in the eyes. “You
are
the one.”

“The one what?” Diamond asked, looking more nervous than Cash had ever seen her, which was saying something.

“The one to take my place. You have the gift inside you, but you have ignored them, fought them. You’ve got to open yourself and embrace your abilities,” Zoe said, patting Diamond’s hand as if to reassure her.

“Gifts? What gifts?” he asked, feeling a little lost.

Zoe ignored him. “The man last night was Luka, your mate. Did you not recognize him?”

Diamond shook her head slowly. “I never caught his scent. Are you sure he’s my mate?”

“What gifts?” Cash asked again.

“The gifts of insight and discernment necessary to advise a king,” Zoe said, shooting him a glance that he was butting in at the exact wrong moment.

He returned her look with a frown but snapped his mouth shut.

“How do I know he’s my mate?”

Cash watched as Zoe stood then extended a hand to his sister. “You need to meet him, scent him, talk to him. Then you will be able to tell. Come on. Cash and I will go with you.”

“We will?” Cash asked as Zoe stood and helped Diamond up. The two women then took off across the beach to where his and Zoe’s clothes waited. “But I thought…”

“Yes, we will.” Zoe cut him off with a look. “Don’t you want to be present the moment the King of Wolves meets his mate? It will be something we can tell our grandchildren about.”

Cash grumbled under his breath about needing more attention from his own mate, but he followed without an argument. He left the umbrella, blanket, and cooler, hoping they would return before nightfall. If not, someone would clean it up.

As he walked, he could not tear his eyes from his mate’s delectable backside. The towel she wore twitched back and forth with her every step. He wondered how long he could remain civil and follow the proprieties of being in the king’s presence.

All he wanted was to toss Zoe over his shoulder and carry her back to the mansion for a solid month of love and romance in every way they could think of. And if they ran out of ideas or steam, which was not likely, they could always take a break and talk.

“Yeah, like that’s going to happen anytime in the next decade,” he said, shifting his cock that had filled once again to a more comfortable position under his towel.

Since Diamond had no clothes to wear, Zoe encouraged her to clean up before putting on her dress. It was a little big on the tiny shape-shifter, but it made her look regal. After quickly French-braiding the other woman’s hair, Zoe stepped back and nodded.

“Perfect. You look beautiful.”

“I feel silly,” Diamond said as she looked down at herself.

“You look like a queen,” Cash said as he came around the building and saw her.

Zoe hoped he was talking to his sister, though he was staring at her without blinking. She looked down at herself and made a face but did not respond. She had exchanged the colorful beach towel for her bra and a pink cotton sheet that she had wrapped around herself twice before tying the ends together over one shoulder.

She only hoped her sarong stayed secure until they introduced Diamond to her mate and could escape back to Cash’s room where clothes had become a discouraged option.

“Okay, ladies, let’s go see if my sister is the king’s mate or not,” Cash said, holding his arms out for the women to take.

Ignoring Cash, Zoe linked arms with Diamond and walked past him. She heard him mumble something, but she did not stop. She knew he would follow. Instead, she focused on the woman by her side. There were things the shifter needed to know about her mate before they came face-to-face and her life changed forever.

“Don’t be afraid of Luka. He growled the other night because years ago he had given up on finding his mate. Then he comes here for a funeral and finds you,” Zoe said, keeping her voice soft.

“But aren’t you already married to him? How is that going to work if I’m his mate? And why were you fucking my brother just now if you’re married to Luka?”

“I was making love with Cash because we are mates, and that’s what mates do. Luka will explain the marriage thing to you, but don’t worry, I would never interfere with you and Luka’s mating claim on you. I’m not even really his wife, except in name only.”

Zoe allowed Diamond to lead the way since she was not exactly sure where they were or how to get back to the bar. Diamond walked as if on autopilot, moving down paths and between cottages without a word.

Zoe knew the woman was processing what she had just revealed. At least Diamond had not freaked out or flat out refused to meet the man who was destined to be her life mate. Zoe watched out of the corner of her eye, trying to read her expression, but Diamond’s face had gone completely blank.

When Zoe tried to probe and read the other woman’s emotions, she ran into a wall, as if Diamond had put a shield up to protect herself. Or had that shield been in place her entire life, protecting her from that which no one around her could understand and therefore could not explain to her?

Diamond stopped when they reached the bar’s deck that looked out over the harbor. Zoe waited patiently as the other woman stared out into the water for several minutes before asking, “What are the gifts you were talking about? I’m not special. I have no talents. I work as a maid at the resort and a waitress in the bar.”

Zoe smiled and thought back to her childhood. She had always known things, but never felt it was a gift because no one would believe her until her prophesies came true. Then they looked at her like she was a freak.

When she was seventeen, Mrs. Pappas had moved into the apartment next door and immediately had known Zoe was special. She had shown her the error in her thinking. Over the next year, Mrs. Pappas helped her embrace and refine her gifts. The day after her eighteenth birthday, the old woman sent her to Luka, with the warning that they would be together only until the man found his mate who would be similarly gifted.

“You are extraordinarily gifted, but no one has taught you how to use them. Once you mate, you will no longer be able to deny or ignore what is currently locked up inside you,” Zoe said. “I will be available to help you in any way I can, but you may not need my help, as you will have Luka to help you and keep you grounded.”

Diamond still looked confused, but she did not fight when Zoe turned her and guided her through the back door of the bar and toward her future.

Chapter 7

Instead of introducing Diamond to her mate-to-be and quickly slipping away with Cash, Zoe found reasons to stay in the bar. She met all the members of the pack while always keeping several people between her and her mate. Though Cash had already claimed and mated with her, seeing him shift just inches from her had scared the shit out of her. What if he shifted again after sex and turned on her?

She had been around shifters for a decade, had seen them shift back and forth, had even witnessed a few fights between shifters, but she had never been frightened before. Knowing her mate was a wolf shape-shifter and watching him transform from a human into a large black wolf while standing over her was something entirely different. Especially since he had fucked her speechless just moments before.
