Chapter 1

“Edie, you didn’t even hear a word I said, did you?” he asked me snapping his fingers playfully in front of my face. He was right of course, I wasn’t really paying attention to him, it’s not like he paid much attention to me either but if he had something he felt was important to share he let me know.

“Um, yeah I heard you. You were talking about getting a raise at work or something,” I answered quickly clicking on another tab on my computer, hiding my conversation with my online lover, and then looking over to my husband to let him know he did indeed have my full attention.

“Just like I thought, you haven’t heard a word I said. You’re always too engrossed with that damn computer and your little chat-room buddies,” he said with a playful grin that I wasn’t sure I should trust completely but I returned a grin of my own to smooth things over.

“I’m sorry, Cain. What were you saying?” I asked sweetly, hoping he would hurry up and spit it out so I could go back to chatting with my chat-room buddies.

“I was saying that I better get this raise, I think I deserve it. No one else works as hard as I do there and if I don’t get it I’m quitting,” he said seriously. This was nothing new, he would work a job for a few months and then he would feel like he deserved a raise because he was the best worker that had ever worked that job and demand more money, when they refused to give him some ridiculous raise, he quit. He would always find another job of course but the cycle of on again/off again jobs had left us living with my mother and her husband, who I wasn’t very fond of, but with two teenage children I had no choice but to deal with it to keep a roof over our heads.

“Well, hopefully you’ll get the raise, honey. I’m sure you deserve it,” I said patting his hand.

“Damn right I do,” he said then he turned his attention back to his online poker game. He loved to play online poker so I knew with his attention focused back on that he wouldn’t be worried about what I was doing. I clicked back on my private chat window.

Me: I’m sorry, love. My husband wanted to talk.

Jesse: Don’t worry about it, beautiful. I would wait forever to talk with you.

Me:
Aww love, you’re too sweet to me.

Jesse: You deserve it.

Me: Thank you, I’m so happy you’re part of my life. I never thought I would find someone I could feel so connected to online.

Jesse: Me either. I never actually believed people ever found love online but I believe it now. I feel it now. My life would be incomplete without you in it.

Me: You give me goose bumps with just words.

Jesse: And I mean every word I say.

Me: *Sigh* so, do you think you’ll still be able to meet up with me soon?

Jesse: I am definitely going to try my damnedest. I have to touch you at least once in this lifetime, I just have to.

Me: I feel the same way. What will you tell your wife?

Jesse: Probably something about work, it’s not like she really likes when I’m around anyway. Hell she will probably pack for me. What about you? What will you tell your hubby?

Me: That I’m going to visit family or something. Any place you would prefer to meet? There are a lot of places in between Florida and New York.

Jesse: I don’t care where we meet just as long as we do.

Me: You sure you want to do this?

Jesse: Yes, I don’t want to do this, beautiful. I need to. You sure you want to do this?

Me: I’m positive. No regrets.

Jesse: Then it’s settled. Now we just need a when and a where.

Me: Yay! Well when will hopefully be soon and where, anywhere but Miami.

Jesse: Why no Miami? Not that I care.

Me: Didn’t you hear about that crazy guy that was running around naked and ended up eating off some bums face?

Jesse: WTF?

Me: Yeah, I’d rather stay away from the zombies!

Jesse: No shit, that is insane!

“Edie, I’m going to bed, you coming?” Cain asked me, making me jump slightly and again quickly pulling up another tab.

“Yeah, I’m right behind you,” I said watching him walk off toward the bedroom.

Me: Sorry, love. I have to go.

Jesse: It’s ok. I need to go soon anyway, work in the morning, ya know?

Me: Talk tomorrow then?

Jesse: Of course, beautiful.

Me: Good night, love.

Jesse: Good night, oh and beautiful?

Me: Yes?

Jesse: Watch out for zombies!

Me: LOL! Sweet dreams, you silly man.

Chapter 2

Jesse: Good morning, beautiful. How are you?

Me: Hello there! I’m doing all right, you?

Jesse: I’m good. Stuck at work for the next ten hours, blah, but with you here I feel better already.

Me: Aww you’re so sweet. I’m still amazed at how this happened, especially with the way it happened.

Jesse: Me too, with that being said, I am extremely happy it did happen. I was just like a zombie before meeting you, walking through life simply going through the motions and besides my son I had no real happiness. You have made me finally feel alive.

Me: I feel the same. Of course my children have brought me a great deal of happiness and love but I can honestly say I have never felt this strongly for another person. I used to always feel like I was missing something yet I could never figure out what it was; now I think I know.

Jesse: I care for you very deeply Edie, I really do. I know it’s wrong since we both have families but I can’t deny it. I think I am falling in love with you.

Me: I care for you too, Jesse. I think I might be falling a bit over here as well. Hey! Speaking of zombies, we had another attack here this morning. Close to Tampa, some naked guy went to his neighbor’s house cursing and screaming, when the neighbor tried to calm the guy down he bit a huge chunk out of his arm. Is that not insane? And they are blaming it on drugs again. What kind of drugs make people want to get naked and eat other people?

Jesse: Well I wouldn’t mind a drug that would get you naked!

Me: Pervert! You won’t need any drugs to get me naked, trust me.

Jesse: God, I don’t know how much longer I can wait my love. All I do is daydream of being with you, every second of every day.

Me: Soon, my dear. I want you just as bad but we have to be careful, remember family comes first. Oh and btw that zombie takes Tampa out of the running!

Jesse: Of course.
LOL! No Tampa! We have had a few “zombie” attacks up here too. They are saying it is drugs here as well. Some kind of PCP or something, so no New York either.

Me: What if this is the beginning of the zombie apocalypse
?

Jesse: Then I am bringing my ass to Florida to be with you!

Me: What about Carrie? And little Jonni?

Jesse: They can come with me. It’s the zombie apocalypse for crying out loud, Carrie would just have to understand. LOL!

Me: You’re so silly!

Jesse: What can I say? You make me feel giddy.

Me: Oh, you’re making me blush.

Jesse: Oops, sorry. Is Cain around?

Me: Yeah, but he is taking a shower.

Jesse: Well then I’m not sorry. I bet you are beautiful when you blush.

Me: Nothing like making it worse.

“What the hell are you over there grinning about?” Cain suddenly asked. I jumped and my grinning instantly stopped.

“Oh…um…nothing, some stupid dog video on YouTube,” I answered.

“You spend too much time on that computer,” he said as he started to get dressed.

“Sorry, sometimes I get bored,” I said softly.

“So are we going to the grocery store or what?”

“Yeah, just let me log off real quick.”

“Fine, I’ll meet you in the car then,” he said as he made his way out of our bedroom.

“Ok.”

Me: I have to go, love. I’m sorry; I need to go to the grocery store.

Jesse: It’s fine, honey. Go handle your business; I will be here whenever you want me.

Me: I always want you.

Jesse: I <3 you. Talk to you soon?

Me: Of course you will. I <3 you too. Oh and Jesse?

Jesse: Yes, my love?

Me: Watch out for naked zombies!

Jesse: Smart ass!

*****

Jesse: How are you today, love?

Me: I’m ok. Cain quit his job…again. Surprise, surprise.

Jesse: I’m so sorry. You know it really isn’t my place but I am going to say it anyway, you deserve so much better.

Me: No, it’s fine. You know you can say whatever you want here, honesty always. I just wish things were different, you know? He isn’t a bad person, I simply want him to man up, find a job, and stick with it even if there are aspects of it he doesn’t like. He should do it to take care of his family.

Jesse: I wish he would realize this too. I don’t know very many people that like their jobs but they do them so they have a roof over their heads and so they can put food on the table.

Me: Exactly. We shouldn’t be living with my mother anymore. I’ve got two teenage children, this is ridiculous!

Jesse: What are you going to do?

Me: I don’t know
.

Jesse: I wish I could hold you.

Me: I wish you could too.

Jesse: Soon?

Me: Yes, soon.

Jesse: Have you thought anymore about where you might like to meet?

Me: Anywhere but Florida. There have been some more weirdo naked zombie attacks here, all over the state. They are still saying it has something to do with drugs but I don’t know it’s freaky.

Jesse: Yeah, the same thing is happening here. Could be the end of the world
?

Me: Don’t joke around like that.

Jesse: Why?

Me: What if it is? What if we never get the chance to meet, to touch, just once? The thought of that makes me want to die.

Jesse: Aw my love, no worries. I was playing around. We will meet, this I promise. One way or another I will get to hold you in my arms. End of the world, zombie apocalypse, or hell if even Jesus came down from the heavens and tried to take me with him, I wouldn’t go. Nothing, my love, nothing is going to keep me from you, ok?

Me: Aw Jesse. I want you so much. I wish we would have met sooner.

Jesse: I do too. I really do, that being said, families first.

Me: I know another reason I don’t leave Cain is for my children.
Even though they are older I don’t want to upset their whole worlds.

Jesse: Trust me; you don’t have to explain it to me. I completely understand. I love my son, he really is the only reason I stay. Hey! Wait a second! You said “another reason” what’s the first reason?

Me: In case there really is a zombie apocalypse, I need him. He’s strong and can shoot a gun pretty damn well!

Jesse: LOL! I can’t wait to see you Eden.

Me
:
I love when you call me Eden; you’re the only one who does.

Jesse: It’s a beautiful name for an even more beautiful woman.

Me: You’re biased!

Jesse: Maybe so but I am also the luckiest man in the world. Well my love, time for me to go play with my son. Talk to you later?

Me: But of course. Enjoy daddy time while he is young, they grow up so very fast.

Jesse: I plan on it though I will miss you.

Me: I’ll miss you too. Now go spend some time with Jonni. I’ve got some laundry to get done anyway.

Jesse: Smooch!
