I pulled his arm and stopped walking. He turned to face me, his hair blowing in the wind.

‘No more lies,’ I said. ‘No more half-truths and made-up stories?’

Jamie looked dubious.

‘No,’ he said firmly. ‘None of those. Just us, being upfront and honest with each other.’

‘No dramas?’ I said. ‘And absolutely no freaking out?’

‘What?’ he said. There was the tiniest amount of fear in his eyes. ‘What is it, Ez? You’re scaring me.’

I looked at him and thought if our situations were reversed, and he told me he was a wizard I’d still love him.

I gave him a wonky smile.

‘Erm,’ I began. ‘There’s something I need to tell you…’
