Peter halted.
Claudia swallowed and stared at his still form, determined not to lose courage. “I want to share my life with you if you’ll—”
Her last words were smothered by his lips. When he finally drew away, her heart was filled with so much joy and love that she laughed. “We’re going to surprise a lot of people.”
“I don’t care,” he said, his eyes dancing with humor. “We’ll have a big wedding. If we’re going to do this, we might as well do it in style.”
“Sounds like fun.”
Peter took out his keys and opened the door then picked up the carrier. “Now let me get you inside before you freeze,” he said, and they entered the dark foyer.
“Let me go turn on the lights,” Peter said, putting the carrier down in the foyer.
Claudia held him still. “No, just wait.” She took a step forward and searched the darkness, surprised she didn’t feel a knot of anxiety or tug of fear. Instead, she felt a warm sensation flow through her. She felt calm, and everything felt right. Her decision to be with Peter and their future ahead. She laughed in surprise. “At last, I’m no longer afraid.”
Noreen Vaughn and Suzanne Gordon couldn’t believe the envelope that arrived in the mail.
“I can’t believe this is really happening,” Suzanne said when she spoke to Noreen over the phone. “But I just got the wedding invitation.”
“Me, too,” Noreen said, tracing the elegant silver windswept style. “She’s having the biggest wedding of all of us.”
“In a French castle, no less. Of all of us, I can’t believe she’s getting married like this.”
“She never does anything halfway. Did you see the note?”
“I’m looking at it now,” Suzanne said then read the note attached.
Dear Suzanne and Noreen,
As you can see, Peter and I are getting married. I know it seems crazy, but at last I’m willing to take the risk. As someone once said,
Success in marriage is much more than finding the right person; it is being the right person.
I’ve finally become the woman I want to be. I know that love needs to be tended, troubles need to be shared and trust needs to be given. Marriage may be the end of one adventure, but I’m ready for the new one and what’s in store.
Love,
Claudia
