Grayson snickered. “Not half a billion dollars’ worth.”

“Well,” Anthony offered, “With the way Julie is running Dare International, your stake will be worth
more
than your investment in no time.”

“Fair enough,” Grayson conceded, smiling.

After their mating, Anthony and Julie had spent the next three months steadily rebuilding the company. Now, both morale and value were at an all-time high. Once the company had been righted, Anthony had surprised Julie with an offer to run the company in an official capacity. He’d made the call to Kalvin, asked for his blessing, and had stepped down and made Julie CEO. Now, with her at the helm, Dare International was the one of the leading tech companies in the world. And it didn’t look like that would be changing anytime soon.

Anthony still spent a lot of time at the office, visiting with and working alongside his mate. The more he’d gotten to know her, the deeper he’d fallen in love with her. Even if they hadn’t been fated to be together, Anthony knew, he would still love her. She complemented him in every way, and the chemistry between them was simply undeniable. They blended together too well to not be together.

“So,” Grayson said, breaking the silence. “Any particular reason you had me meet you here?” He gestured to the small, dimly lit restaurant they were standing in.

“I have one more favor to ask of you,” Anthony said, turning to face his friend.

“Oh dear God,” Grayson snarked, feigning annoyance. “Go ahead, shoot.”

“You see,” Anthony started. “When I leave this place, I’m meeting Julie next door for dinner. And I’m going to ask her to marry me. I was hoping that, if she says yes, you’ll be my best man.”

Grayson grinned wide, flashing a set of pearly white teeth. “Absolutely!” he said excitedly.

Anthony smiled at that. He hadn’t expected Grayson to say no, but the confirmation was a relief nonetheless. It was one less thing to be nervous about tonight. Even though he knew that Julie would say yes, he still found himself fighting off the butterflies in his stomach.

“But,” Grayson offered, “If you want my advice, do something informal. Waiting for your mate to walk down the aisle is just too damn hard.”

Anthony snorted. He’d heard stories of Grayson’s own wedding and how impatient of a groom he’d been.

“I’ll keep it in mind,” Anthony said, winking. “But now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go meet my mate for dinner.”

“Go get her,” Grayson said. “And congratulations. You deserve it.”

Anthony dipped his head to Grayson, acknowledging his comment, and made for the exit. Once out on the street, he took a deep breath, doing his best to force the butterflies from his stomach. He walked to the next building over, a gorgeous and expensively crafted fine dining restaurant, and pushed open the door. He’d made a point to rent the entire place out, ensuring that it would be empty save for Julie and himself.

A single round table, covered in a white table cloth sat in the middle of the restaurant. The table was already sat, with a bottle of champagne and two glasses set on the table. On one side of the table, sat an empty chair. On the other, sat the most incredible woman in the world. When Anthony saw her his breath caught in his chest, just as it always did.

Forcing himself forward, Anthony walked up to his mate who sat there, her gorgeous eyes sparkling in the candle-lit environment, and promptly dropped down to one knee in front of her before she could say anything. He shoved a fist into his pocket, digging around for the case he’d placed the ring in. Anthony’s face paled when his fingers brushed against an empty pocket.

“Looking for this?” Julie said with a smile, and Anthony looked up to see her holding a small black cube, opened to reveal a sparkling diamond ring. “Next time you plan a surprise proposal, don’t leave the ring in my desk drawer.”

Anthony beamed up at her. “There won’t be a next time, though,” he said. “Or will there?”

Julie looked playfully from the ring and back to Anthony, then grinned. “Over my dead body.”

With a laugh, Anthony jumped to his feet and pulled his mate to hers, then wrapped his arms around her body, pulling her as tightly against him as he could, and kissed her.
