Lexi climbed out of her prison and sighed at her nudity. Nothing like fighting for your life stark naked.

The ship was silent. She ran through the halls, occasionally stymied by doors that couldn’t open. She could feel Drafu running around and looking for her, but since she could feel them coming, she simply hid. It was more difficult than it had to be, because not only her body, but also her hair was photo reflective.

While she was huddling in a cargo bay, lying as flat as she could manage on top of a stack of boxes, she heard a voice whisper in her ear. “Lexi?”

She didn’t want to speak, there were two hunters nearby. She tapped her earpiece twice.

“Oh thank the stars. We are on the way. As far as we can tell, the Drafu set the fires to distract us while they made off with you. Fortunately, Strike has quite a range.”

She tapped twice again.

“I am guessing that you can’t talk. Just know that we are on our way.”

Tears welled in her eyes at the concern in his tone. She tapped twice again and then flattened out while her stalkers got close.

The thud behind her startled her. She whirled, and one of the Drafu was standing over her. She reached out to jolt him, but he winced and nothing else happened. She must have drained her inner batteries or the shot they gave her had caused a misfire.

“Negotiator Under, you are worth a lot of money.” He growled it and hauled her to her feet.

“I am not Negotiator Under. Do you see any armour?” She gestured to her body.

He looked her over, but the Drafu preferred their women coated with mucous. “You took it off.”

“I can’t take it off. It was bolted onto me.”

He frowned as if she wasn’t making sense. He was also done talking. He yanked her by her arm and jumped off the stack of boxes. The others paused and followed them as he pulled her along to a skimmer bay.

“Get those doors open.” Mr. Grabby barked the order.

The two Drafu following wrenched the door open, their hands bleeding as they were cut by the metal.

She was prodded onto the skimmer, and Grabby powered it up. He kept her arm in his grip, so she wasn’t able to tap the earpiece or activate it for her to speak.

Grabby spoke to the others, “If the Guardians come, delay them. I am going to get her to the debriefing point.”

“Yes, Captain.”

Well, that answered that point. Lexi could feel a tingle in her hands again, and she knew that if she wanted to disable him, she was only going to get one chance.

One Drafu was easier to deal with than a ship full.

Lexi kept herself limp and kept tension on the arm he had a grip on. The skimmer shot out of the ship and up in to the sky.

Transport via flying was normal and every day in the imperium, but for Lexi, it was a nauseating event each time she had to climb into a vehicle.

The night sky was star studded as Grabby set a course for the
debriefing
point.

She could see the approaching Guardian skimmer, but it was heading for the ships. It was time to be a damsel in distress again. She screamed as loud and long as she could.

Grabby struck her with his free hand, but the damage was done.

She felt the tingle in her hands grow fiercely. She shouted and struck him in the lower abdomen, right over his heart. His eyes widened and he stumbled back, falling over the edge of the skimmer.

“Oh shit.” Lexi looked around and couldn’t see any approaching help. She activated the earpiece. “Theory!”

“We can see you. Slow down and we will come on board.”

“I can’t. I have no idea how to fly a Drafu skimmer or any other kind for that matter.” She bit her lip and looked around as the climb took her into air that chilled her to the bone.

“We are on our way.”

“Okay. He set the skimmer for a destination he referred to as the debriefing point.”

“Noted. We will get a download from the skimmer and pursue them from there.”

“Great.”

She watched them get closer, but she was shivering dramatically now. “Not to make you rush, but I am literally freezing to death here. They didn’t bother dressing me after they drugged me.”

“We can only match the speed, we can’t overtake it in these atmospheric conditions.”

Lexi shuddered and saw a flash of white. “I can see Winger.”

“He can see you, but he can’t catch up with the skimmer either.”

She was nauseous at the thought, but she moved to the back of the skimmer. “Tell him he doesn’t have to catch the skimmer, he just has to catch me.”

“Winger says that if you are sure, he is ready.”

That was all she needed to hear. She could feel Winger’s determination to come for her. Without debating it or contemplating what would happen if he missed, she stepped out of the skimmer and into midair.

Screaming was an option, but there was a strange stillness that took over her panic.

She heard the beat of wings, watched as he matched her speed and trajectory and felt the relief as he pulled her toward him before banking and turning away from the skimmers as they raced together.

Lexi sighed and leaned against Myrik. He was holding her high, so she was able to whisper, “You caught me.”

“Of course. I will always be there to catch you when you fall.”

She smiled as the words warmed her. It was the only warming thing about the flight. She was freezing. “I think I need clothing.”

“I hate to say that I agree with you. First stop will be Kulidan. One of the ladies will open up shop for you.” He grinned. “I am sure of it.”

Lexi was going to ask him about why he could be so sure, but she decided that it would be better if she didn’t. His mind was broadcasting pride but also embarrassment and that combination usually directed right to a sexual escapade that the woman in his arms had no interest in.

Coaxing out his emotions was her job.

Chapter Ten

The ladies blushed and giggled but helped her with a few articles of clothing that would amply satisfy her need for feeling feminine.

The top was more of a wrapped piece of fabric than fitted clothing. It was the same blue-green as her eyes, and it matched the gauzy panel skirt that flowed and twisted as she moved.

The ladies had plied her with cake and hot tea until she was warm, and they fitted her with a number of outfits that had a variety of purposes. She was now ready to go to the symphony, the ballet, a night at a swinger’s club, a sci-fi convention and a public hanging.

The Guardians were at the site that the skimmer had led them to. Nine Drafu were under arrest and the imperium was on its way to collect them.

Negotiator Under had died on the skimmer along with the Drafu captain. That was the official story. When he hit her, she had cut herself and smeared blood on the inside of the skimmer. They had proof that she was there on the skimmer, and she obviously had not reached the point. The Drafu believed the story.

So, Lexi was officially dead and she had a new wardrobe. It had been a productive evening.

She looked at Winger. “So, what do you think?”

He blinked slowly and grinned. “I think that you should wear that sort of thing a lot.”

“But is it practical?”

“Absolutely not. If you are ready, the skimmer is here.”

Winger had called the smaller skimmer by remote.

The ladies handed her the other parcels, flirted outrageously with Winger and then waved them off.

Cuddling tight against Winger, Lexi held on but watched his hands. She was going to have to learn to fly one day but that day wasn’t today. Today, she wanted to hold her mate, be warm and maybe, just maybe, she would remember to take out her com.

Myrik positioned her on her hands and knees. He stroked down her spine and cupped her hips in his hands. “You are perfect.”

She shook her head and turned to look at him. “I am really not.”

He stroked his hands down her buttocks and parted her thighs gently. She blushed as he leaned in and examined her folds.

“A woman’s body. So simple and yet so complicated. Feared and desired, beloved beyond measure.” He stroked her and slid two fingers inside her.

Her skin turned hot pink listening to his words. His voice was low and husky, his fingers explored slowly.

Lexi moaned when he found the spot on the front wall of her channel and he stroked it slowly. Her hips twisted against his hand, and he moved his fingers faster.

She felt her skin turn scarlet with embarrassment as moan after moan broke free from her throat. The moans caught and locked as the pleasurable lightning struck her.

Myrik withdrew his hand, and she felt the press of his cock working its way into her.

Lexi pushed back and angled her hips to take him as deep as she could.

He thrust, she rocked, he grunted, she moaned. They moved together over and over, she never wanted it to end as he picked up speed and ferocity and pleasure made her mindless.

This time, her body filled with power, and she channeled it into Myrik. He grunted and thrust into her to the hilt, shuddering madly. She opened her mind to his, and the energy of his release pulled her into climax.

Her body jerked, light sparked behind her eyes, and she dug her fingers into the bedding. Her moan was low and long, continuing until her body finished revelling in its enjoyment. She dropped to the sheets and fought for breath.

He came down on top of her and whispered in her ear. “Did you take your com out?”

A voice shouted from the other end. “No, she did not.”

Myrik laughed. “Sorry, Theory.”

“I don’t care about Winger’s apology. Please, Lexi. Please. It is driving me closer to my rut, and I don’t have any time off coming up.”

“I am so sorry, Theory. It was a joke that has gone too far.”

“Strike has informed me that you may be joining us. If that is the case, you will get your implant and these situations won’t occur. Please, keep me in mind if you are tempted to frolic with your mate.”

“I will, and I apologize again. It was a sudden impulse after he saw my new clothing.”

“I understand. You have a fine form and we have all seen all of it. Take out the earpiece and have a fun and loud evening.”

Sighing, Lexi pulled the com unit out and put it on the bedside table with only moderate rocking on Myrik’s re-invigorated erection. “Now, I feel guilty.”

He pulled out, eased her over to her back and slid into her, holding her arms above her head. Her breasts pressed against his chest as he slowly began to rock and retreat inside her.

“There is no place for guilt in our bed.”

“Is it our bed now?”

“It is. You jumped out of a skimmer with no guarantee that I could match the speed and catch you. You trust me heart and soul, and I want to make both of them glad that you honour me with your belief in me.”

She wrapped her legs around his hips and pulled herself against him. “You have earned whatever I have given. I give it freely and without restraint.”

He kissed her and words were suddenly unimportant. He was always there when she needed him, and she knew he would always try to be in the right spot at the right time. At this moment, he was exactly where she needed him to be. She just needed him there a little harder.

He must have read her mind, because a moment later, he was harder, faster, rubbing her clit and kissing her with a ravenous hunger. Her climax earned him a cry that he took into his mouth before he rewarded her with his own low groan.

It wasn’t bad for an impromptu wedding night.

Two weeks later, she was ready for her debut as Jolt.

The Genaran specialist, Drehl, had been thorough and his wife, Rhoda, had been amusing as anything. Seeing another first-generation Terran was amazing. Apparently, the Guardian project was rife with them if you knew where to look.

Rhoda offered to create a painting of Lexi’s true mate, but Lexi already knew the truth.

Three days after they left, Lexi got a picture sent to her. The image was enough to heat her cheeks, and when Myrik saw it, he made a happy sound. It was a naked Lexi standing in front of a naked Myrik, wearing only his hands.

The cause of the happy sound was the rounded belly that Lexi was sporting in the image. Her hair was six inches longer, so she knew that there was some time before she got knocked up if Rhoda’s image was to be believed.

Strike brought her out. “I now present our newest Guardian, Jolt. Gentlemen, this is the first change in our ranks in two years.”

Lexi moved slowly and eventually stood with her hands on her hips, letting the men take in her new suit. It was black and white, in contrast to Winger’s white and black. He grinned and said, “I like it.”

Theory gave slow applause, and Pulse ran up and hugged her. Patches settled for a high five.

She went through the ranks, confirmed to Theory five times that she had the com implant and enjoyed dinner as a full-fledged Guardian.

Later that night, she jacked into the data stream and uploaded everything she could. When the alarm came at three in the morning, coming in through her implant and making sleep impossible, she got into her armoured uniform and prepared for her first assignment as a Guardian.

Jolt was out the door, and Winger was right behind her. It was a helluva start to the day, but she was going to do the best that she could. She always did, and he would be there to catch her.

Author’s Note

I apologize for waiting seven years before writing the sequel to
Guardian Enjel,
but I had no idea if anyone would even enjoy the original that I had to wait until later to see if the sequel was wanted.

Like it or not, it is here.

This is also the initial teaser book in the Second Wave of the Terran Volunteers. These women knew what they were getting into but had no idea what was in store.

Thanks for reading,
