Chapter 19
A Turn in the Tables
As Vegas enjoyed life on the outside, I made do of my world behind bars. To utilize my time, I constantly studied law books. I was sure there was some loophole or something that could get me out of jail.
I was no longer in solitary confinement and life in population was better. I didn't need to prove myself. In fact, I had a few chicks who were serving me. My cellmate, Brook, was one of them. She was serving time for embezzlement and had already been turned out in her short stay of only twelve months. She had a huge crush on me, and it was her personal mission to sex me. At times, it was pretty tempting. Brook had a gorgeous shape and a pretty face, unlike most of the females in there. Many of them had million-dollar bodies with food stamp faces.
Brook was my partner in crime. We masterminded a scheme to get me out. With my knowledge in law and her skill at scheming, we came up with the perfect plan. We just had a final few kinks to work out before executing it.
The days began to fly by and Saturday rolled around in the blink of an eye. I anticipated Vegas' arrival. I had a huge surprise for him. I had spoken to Mickie and she told me about his little dick-sucking incident. She told me not to mention it to him and tried to explain how Sonya had provoked him. Of course, none of that really mattered to me. I was able to keep my composure on our calls throughout the week, but I was going to make it my duty to show him a thing or two at visitation. Vegas had fucked me over once and I'd be damned if he was gonna get away with it twice. This was the final straw. I loved Vegas with all my heart and tried with all I had to put things behind me. I knew if I just remained humble, the truth would prevail. I hoped the truth would have been that Vegas really loved me and would never betray me, but deep inside I knew he had turned out to be as much of a snake as his older brother.
“Ceazia Devereaux, visitation!” the deputy called. I took my time walking to the gate. I could see Vegas' nervous smile as I approached.
“Hey, baby,” he said as he hugged me tight. I returned a loose hug. My actions were making Vegas uneasy.
“How was your week?” I asked with a mischievous smile. Vegas instantly knew something was up.
“It was cool. What's up with you, C? Why you acting all strange?” he started to ask. That was my cue.
Smack!
I threw my hand across his face.
“Fuck you, Vegas. You just can't seem to keep your dick in your pants, can you?”
It took all he had, but Vegas did not strike back.
“I'm sorry, Ceazia,” he said through his teeth.
“It was a mistake. I understand if you don't want to be with me anymore, but please just give me a chance to show you I can be the Vegas you've always loved.”
“The Vegas I loved protected me, was there for me, loved me, and damn sure never cheated on me,” I told him. “I hate you and I never want to see you again.” As a final touch, I spit in his face before leaving.
“You're making a mistake, Ceazia!” I could hear him shouting. “You're making a big mistake. Mickie told you what I did, but did she also tell you that she accepted three grand to keep her mouth shut? She's jealous of you, C. She doesn't want us together because she knows how happy you'll be. The bitch is shiesty!”
The pace of my life did a one-hundred and eighty degree turn after that. The days began to move slowly. With Vegas out of my life, I was miserable, but I couldn't continue to be with someone who was unfaithful. He had cheated on me a second time, and that was the final straw. Weeks passed and I did not call Vegas, nor did he come to visit. My mind was torn between Mickie and Vegas.
What if Vegas was telling the truth? Mickie was jealous of me at one time. Maybe she set the whole thing up. What have I done?
The more I thought about things, the more I wanted Vegas back. My life was empty without him and I wouldn't be whole again until I had my man back in my life. I could no longer bear the pain. Sure, it hurt when I learned of the times he cheated, but the emptiness I felt after we parted seemed never ending. I convinced myself that Vegas deserved another chance. I broke down and called him.
The phone rang, but there was no answer. I found that strange because it was ten in the morning, and Vegas didn't normally get up until after ten. I took that as a sign and left the situation alone. If it were meant to be, we would be reunited somehow.
As the weeks passed, I could feel that I was getting closer and closer to my release. Vegas' lawyer had arranged a hearing for my reconsideration and we definitely had good grounds for release.
“Ceazia Devereaux, please stand for the court's decision,” the judge requested. My stomach turned. This was an all too familiar feeling as I waited for another judgment. “I hereby release you into the probation program of Virginia Beach, Virginia.”
I could have pissed in my pants. I burst into tears as the words registered.
I'm being released from jail
.
I can go home
.
I am finally free
.
I left the courtroom on top of the world. There was not a friend, family member, or even Vegas there, but I was still happy.
I thought about how I could go about getting Vegas back as I rode home. The bus ride was long and rough, but nothing could stop the joy I felt. I planned to surprise Vegas. No one knew I was coming home, and that's just the way I wanted it. Sure, Vegas had really done some terrible things, but I had forgiven him. After days and days of soul searching, I figured there were too many what-ifs and I decided to give Vegas the benefit of the doubt. I figured all the ups and downs throughout our relationship would only make us stronger. He had asked me to be his wife, and I had every intention on being just that.
From the bus station, I took a cab to my house. The house was big and beautiful, just as I remembered it. I really missed home. A huge smile came across my face as I pressed the digits of my birth date on the keypad and the gate opened. I walked to the door slowly. I didn't want Vegas to hear me enter.
I became more and more anxious the closer I got to the bedroom. I could hear the jets blowing in the Jacuzzi. I figured Vegas was probably relaxing after a long workout. He would often do that when I was home. I cracked the door just enough to peep in. The vision before me would never leave my mind. There were Vegas, Mickie, and Sonya all ass-naked in my Jacuzzi, sniffing cocaine. I stood frozen in my tracks. I didn't know what to do. I managed to back away from the door without being noticed and proceeded to walk to the basement in a trance. When I got to the bottom step, I reached on top of the water heater and it was there, just as I had left it. My gun had not been moved. I loaded the gun slowly as tears escaped the confines of my eyelids and rolled down my face. This was the final deceit.
I walked back to the bedroom and opened the door. They were so high that they didn't even notice my presence. I watched Vegas laying back in enjoyment as Sonya sucked his dick and Mickie rubbed all over his body. I couldn't believe she would stoop so low.
Bang . . . bang . . . bang . . . bang!
They had no idea what hit them. The room was silent. No screams were ever heard. I watched as the Jacuzzi waters quickly turned red. Vegas, however, was not yet dead.
“Ceazia, I'm sorry, baby,” he whispered as blood streamed down the side of his face. “I'm sorry. I'll always love you. Catch my heart.”
Those were the last words Vegas spoke before his eyes closed to an eternal sleep. His words pierced my heart.
Vegas . . . what have I done? I've killed the love of my life
. My brain was racing.
How can I live without him? Vegas, wake up! Please, wake up!
I shook his body frantically, but he did not move. His body lay still. I screamed in pain. Vegas was gone and I had killed him.
I fixed myself a drink and walked over to my bed. And this is where I've been ever since.
So, you may be wondering why I'm telling you this story. Just to instill a single thought:
For what is a man profited if he shall gain the
whole world and lose his own soul? Or what
shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
