“Do you want a baby?” he asked hesitantly, almost like he was afraid to hear the answer.
I shook my head and wiped the tears out of my eyes. “No. I just-I don’t want you to leave.”
Now he looked even more confused. “Leave?”
“I knew once spring came you’d want to leave, but if I was pregnant you’d have to stay. Even though I don’t have the first clue of what to do with a baby, I couldn’t stand the thought of you going away.”
Sawyer swore and scooted his chair across the floor so he was right in front of me. He took my hands in his, and his touch was so gentle it gave me the courage to meet his eyes. He smiled, and I did my best to return it, but my heart still hurt.
“I’m not leaving you, Lucy. God, I’m so sorry you thought I was. I saw the look on your face every time I mentioned heading out in spring, but I assumed you were just worried because your uncle never came back. I only meant I was going out to get supplies. I don’t want to leave you.”
“You don’t?” I asked hesitantly, a flutter of hope filling my heart.
He smiled and gave my hand another squeeze. “No, I don’t.”
“But you were doing a good job of surviving on your own. You don’t need me.”
“There’s more to life than survival, Lucy. With you, I’m living. For the first time in years I have a reason to get up in the morning. I have someone to hold and love and to devote my life to. That’s what it means to have a life.” He took my face between his hands, pulling me closer. “I love you, Lucy. I’m not going to leave you. Ever if I can help it.”
Tears of relief and joy and love filled my eyes as he pulled me the rest of the way toward him, his mouth covering mine.
“I love you,” I whispered against his lips.
“I love you,” he said in return.
I moved forward and climbed onto his lap, straddling him. He ran his hands down my back, cupping my buttocks as his tongue pushed its way into my mouth. He was already hard, and even though I’d started my cycle and he knew it, he didn’t hesitate to push his way into me. I cried out, throwing my head back as his hands tightened on my hips, moving my body up and down on top of his. His mouth closed over my right nipple, biting it softly and sending tremors of pleasure shooting from me.
Then all at once Sawyer stood, lifting me with him. My back landed on the table, and he didn’t miss a beat. He held my hips firmly as he thrust deep into me, pounding his body against mine, causing my orgasm to build and build until I couldn’t do anything but gasp in ecstasy. When I came, I clamped my legs around his waist, pushing my body against his. Holding him there as my body shook around him.
I’d just barely come down when Sawyer grunted and squeezed his eyes shut. “In or out,” he said, moving faster.
I could hardly think, but I knew what he was asking. “Out,” I gasped, knowing that a baby wasn’t something I wanted just yet, but loving that he care enough to ask me.
Sawyer pulled out of me, barely making it before he grunted and spilled his seed all over my stomach.
Once he’d cleaned me up, Sawyer carried me back to bed. It was late morning by then, but lying in bed naked all day didn’t seem like a waste. Not when we’d finally started living.
y stomach was uneasy when I woke, reminding me what day it was. It was still early, and orange rays from the morning sun shone through the window. I wanted to curl up against Sawyer and stay in bed all day, but I knew that wouldn’t happen.
That didn’t mean we couldn’t start the day out right.
He was still asleep, laying on his side with his back to me, and I scooted up behind him. I ran my hand up his hip and to the front, wrapping my hand around him. He made a little sound as I moved my hand up and down, but didn’t wake right away. My hand moved faster, and he rolled onto his back. Before he’d even opened his eyes, he’d pushed the blankets down to give me more access.
“I could get used to this,” he said, his voice still thick with sleep.
“I’m hoping to convince you to stay.” I got up on my knees and moved closer, tightening my fingers around his hardness. “Will this do it?” I said, wrapping my lips around him.
He groaned and twisted his fingers through my hair. “Probably not, but I won’t stop you from trying.”
We spent a few minutes that way, Sawyer grasping my head, pumping in and out of my mouth. I’d perfected the act at that point, knowing how to relax the back of my throat so he didn’t make me gag. He took full advantage of that talent.
“God, girl,” he grunted, moving faster. “You’re so good at this.”
I recognized the look on his face, and pulled away. “Not so fast. If you insist on leaving me today, at the very least I get to be in control.”
Sawyer grinned, his blue eyes flashing. “Is that right?’
“That’s right.”
I straddled his body, positioning him at my wet entrance. Slowly, I lowered myself, gasping in pleasure as he filled me up. Sawyer grabbed my hips, directing me where to go. Up and down, harder and faster. Thrusting into me with as much force as he could muster. But it must not have been enough, because he grabbed me and flipped me over so I was on my back and he was on top. He lifted my legs, hooking them over his shoulders as he pounded into me, giving him deeper access.
“Oh God, Sawyer,” I called out, digging my nails into his arms, knowing how much he loved it when I told him what I wanted. “Yes! Harder!”
Moisture beaded on my skin as he thrust harder, hitting just the right spot over and over again until I felt blind with passion. Suddenly, he threw my legs down and pulled out of me, lowering his head between my legs and sucking my clit into his mouth. The second his tongue flicked over my already sensitive nub, the orgasm exploded through my body and I cried out.
He didn’t stop. I writhed and moaned and wiggled under him, pulling his hair as he sucked on my overly sensitive clit. Never giving me even a second to catch my breath. Another orgasm ripped through me, making my body jerk under him as tears of ecstasy filled my eyes.
Finally, he pulled away, crawling up the bed to cover my lips with his. Without a word, he slipped back inside me. This time it was slower. Gentler. He rocked against me while our tongues tangled together. My body was still sensitive from the epic orgasm he’d just given me, and it didn’t take long for the sensation to return. Sawyer took his time, but I could tell when he got close. He grasped my hips and moved faster, holding my gaze as he thrust into me. My body fell over the edge yet again just as Sawyer grunted and thrust into me one final time, our orgasms coming together in perfect harmony.
It wasn’t until he pulled out and rolled over next to me that I realized he finished inside me for the second time ever.
“What did you do?” I asked, my heart pounding so hard it drowned out every other noise.
Sawyer smiled and ran his hand down the side of my face. “I love you, and I decided it was worth the risk.”
“Are you sure?” I asked, tears filling my eyes.
“I’ve never been more certain of anything in my life.”
He pulled me against him, kissing me softly.
A little over an hour later, Sawyer stood at the door ready to head out. I couldn’t help the unease in my stomach as he stopped and turned to face. “I’m going to head back to my place first, but that should only take a little over an hour to get to. I’ll pack up what I can, then head into town so I can stock up on supplies. I should have enough to trade with all the soap you’ve made and the stuff I get from my place.”
I grabbed his hand and gave it a squeeze, working hard to hold the tears inside. “Ask about Seamus while you’re there.”
“I will.”
“And be careful.”
Sawyer pulled me against him, wrapping his arms around me. “If I don’t come back—”
“Stop! Don’t say it.” I buried my face in his chest.
“I have to and you know it.” He pulled me back and tilted my face up until I was looking him in the eye. “If I don’t come back, don’t come looking for me. Do what you can to take care of yourself here. It isn’t safe there. Not for a woman like you.”
Tears filled my eyes, but he wiped them away. He gave me one firm kiss before letting me go and walking out the door, and when it shut in my face, the dread that came down on my head felt like it was going to crush me.
